User Reviews for Windrush School

5 Star Rating: Highly Recommended

I've had two kids at Windrush, one has graduated, the other is still in Middle School. The one now in High School has thanked us for sending her to Windrush - imagine that, a teenager thanking you for something! She misses her Middle School teachers, inspiring and thoughtful people who really have a gift for teaching and caring for the developing adolescent. Her classmates were great kids - smart, funny, a very diverse group who had a real affection for each other and have stayed in touch even as they've gone to a wide variety of high schools (Berkeley High, College Prep, St. Mary's, Branson, El Cerrito High, Marin Academy, Albany High, etc.) Both my kids came here in kindergarten, and we feel very fortunate to be part of the Windrush community. Wonderful families, great teachers, strong administration (the new head of school, Ilana Kaufman, is outstanding). A beautiful campus which has room for kids to explore and play, owls nesting in the trees, a new "green" building opening next year will finally allow the school to make room for more kids in the elementary school, which will be great. I wish every child could have a Windrush education as their foundation for intellectual, social, emotional and civic development. I wish I could have gone here myself, particularly for middle school. (Can I have a "do over"?)

Pros: Every child is known, caring staff, great community, stimulating curriculum, K-8 on one campus

Cons: it isn't free!
