Rude waitress. Food isn't bad

by ppenguin

Yuet Lee is usually my preferred place for late night dining because it opens until 3A.M.

However, last I went there, I brought a friend who came to visit San Francisco just last week. The waitress was angry about something I don't know. She looked angry all the time and rushed us to order and get out of the restaurant. Collected all the dishes even before we finished it without asking a thing.

I wasn't very satisfied with how she treated us, so I decided to not fully give her the tip. I left on the table a small amount of money we got back as change. This waitress then came up to us yelling and looked at us like we were some homeless who didn't know any manners.

"Do you know you have to give 15% tip in America?"

"You should be greatful we are not charging you for the box"

Yes... the box for leftover stuff. What the hell was that attitude? I recommended this restaurant to my best friend and this was how they treat us?

I'll never go eat there ever again.

Good Chinatown Eatery

by cafltx

I don't think this is the best eatery in Chinatown, but we found the food fresh, generously portioned, reasonably priced, and flavorful. We enjoyed eating there and would go back anytime if we lived in SF.

  • Pros: A fun place to eat
  • Cons: A little run down

Fun Experience

by tm06

The best thing about the dining experience here is ordering one dish and getting another instead. The seafood entrees are tasty and plentiful. Forget the service but the prawns with oytser sauce are delicious. We would return anytime.

  • Pros: Quick service and very tasty seafood choices
  • Cons: tricky service

Best Chinese food in SF!

by jamocha151

This is the best place for authentic chinese food. Everything I've had has been wonderful - the seafood is very fresh, as are the vegetables and they have a wide variety of choices on the menu to suit everyone. I love the salt & pepper calamari as well as the salt & pepper crab (which has a batter over the shell and is a bit spicy - EXCELLENT!) The owner & the staff are very friendly, and the restaurant is clean. I recently moved to Palo Alto and if my family calls to tell me they're going to Yuet Lee, I will drive up to SF to meet them for dinner!

  • Pros: affordable, excellent taste
  • Cons: parking

Salt and pepper squid! Sauteed pea shoots!

by mightypow

I can't believe I lived here for years before going to Yuet Lee. By far the best late night eats in the city, it's worth a trip at any time of day for that squid and those pea shoots... Come expecting zilch in the way of "atmosphere" -- but, in fact, Yuet Lee has tons of atmosphere, of the awesomely divey (but very clean) kind. A San Francisco institution, and rightly so.

  • Pros: Divey atmosphere, Excellent Food, Open late
  • Cons: What cons?

Authentic Chinese restaurant stays open late and puts the emphasis on edibles from the sea.

by Lorraine Sanders

In Short
Located on a bustling corner where North Beach and Chinatown merge, this eatery offers many traditional Chinese noodle and rice dishes, but specializes in freshly prepared seafood. In the no-frills dining room, patrons hunker over steamed crab, Boston lobster, deep-fried oysters and clay pots brimming with catfish and abalone. True to its roots, the menu contains offerings like fresh frog rice soup and braised sea cucumber with duck feet that might be absent at more Americanized venues.

Great late night spot

by alfie55

I've visited Yuet Lee on many drunken nights and the food is great. The crispy noodles and a couple of the egg dishes are the way to go, though everything is good and made from scratch.

  • Pros: food

Good Authentic Chinese

by huskyduck

The decor may scare some people away but they will be missing out on one of the best Chinese restaurants in San Francisco. All dishes are made from scratch with fresh ingredients. Order any dish with abalone and you are getting the real deal, not something from a can.

This is great place to know about when visting San Francisco because it is open till 3am. The place is always packed regardless of the time and the majority eating are locals. Please be warned that this place only accepts CASH.

  • Pros: Seafood dishes, large portions, fairly priced
  • Cons: , dicey neighborhood, no credit cards

  • Pros: Food, Cheap, Atmosphere
