Great Food, best Sole in town, great service
by mikedougss
I've been dining at the Cafe since 1992 when I moved to West Portal and have always enjoyed it, even after the ownership changed the food and service maintained it's quality if not improved. New specials like the meatloaf special (yummy!), and the Cafe classics like the Mexican salad and the fresh crab sandwich make go to the cafe at least twice a week!
What you all forget...

Yes, this restaurant has had some changes recently, but keeping restuarant staff isn't easy, and when fewer people come to eat, it is harder to afford larger portions. I assure you that the portions are still more than enough in many cases and just right in others. The fact of the matter is that it still tastes just as good as it did the first day they opened. The salads are a masterpiece, the sandwiches are yummy, and the service is still very good. Those who say different are just upset that the place has changed a little bit. But nothing ever stays exactly the same now does it? The regulars are still regulars, and that has to count for something doesn't it? I think that this cafe is still on the top of my list and should become one of yours too.
Great comfort food !!

My family and I have been visiting the Cafe for all Seasons for atleast 8 yrs, and we love the food !! The tables are close together, but the Niman hamburger with gouda, Mexican salad, carapaccio, Chicken scallopini with mashed potatoes, french fries and pumpkin spiced pie are really really good !!! i reommend everything, great salads, entrees, salads are light, and what a casual, yet boisterous restaurant !!
- Pros: Food, Casual , Fun
- Cons: none
What's happened to this former gem?
by jdlevine
Sometime in the summer of 2005 something happened to this formerly perfect neighborhood restaurant. The menu shrunk, as did the portions. Formerly included side dishes were suddenly ala carte. Unfamiliar staff appeared. And a nasty mandatory 18% gratuity for a party of 6 came into existence. Despite mostly tasty food, our formerly favorite local (and family) restaurant isn't near the top of our list anymore. New management or just hard times financially? Any way you look at it, it's a sad turn.
- Pros: Tasty food
- Cons: Unpleasant pricing, Shrinking portions, Cutting corners
Solid California cuisine and an intimate setting have made this restaurant a West Portal fixture.

In Short
This popular cafe offers well-rendered California comfort food in a warm and airy setting, highlighted by polished woods and a bustling open kitchen. The clientele consists mainly of well-heeled professionals from the upscale neighborhood. The menu emphasizes healthy items, such as salads, light pasta dishes, and chicken and seafood plates. However, a pork medallion entree and a traditional burger are available to satisfy meat eaters.
Rare Neighborhood Treasure

Cafe for All Seasons is simply one of the BEST neighborhood restaurants in SF! The salads are superb (my favorite, the gouda, but the shrimp and avocado is stunning as well), and the fish is always fresh and prepared to perfection. Weekend brunch includes something for everyone, even those people who don't want breakfast foods. If you live clsoe to West Portal, you MUST try it!
The only drawback is that the tables are really close to each other - too close for an intimate dinner for 2. But we have met some really nice people due to the closeness as well.
- Pros: great food and value, fresh ingredients, exceptional salads
- Cons: tables too close, not intimate
