I'm writing this review because I tried to call about this and promptly was ignored by the dispatch operator... This morning, during busy commute time on SF 101 between SFO and the city, my husband and I were PASSED by Luxor cab#841, going at least 75-80mph. Not such a big deal, except that we noticed too disturbing things: 1. The cab was operating with one of the tires replaced by the 1/2-size spare tire, and 2. there was a fare in the back seat. All it takes is one accident due to negligence of this sort and somebody is going to get really hurt. (note: we were only able to determine the cab was Luxor and #841 when we caught up to it at the lights going off the freeway by the ball park. it flew by us in a blur!)

The driver, Donald Allen, was most aggressive and has the manners of a PIG! The fare was from SFO to Millbrae and when he opened the back hatch (handicapped ramp), he was happy to toss our heavy luggage to us across the ramp. Hmmm... his manners aside, I said "Thank You," but because of the wind, he may not have heard me. He showed his true passive-aggressive colors when he backed out his van yelling, "You have no f@#$%ing manners!" As I went back outside to address this with him he proceeded to flip me off. WARNING: LUXOR CAB COMPANY OF SAN FRANCISCO - "If this is the quality of people that you hire to represent your company I will ensure all my fellow travelers avoid using your services."
Cons: Bad manners, drives aggressively. Poorly represents the company.

A few friends and I wanted to go to dinner and drinks on a Friday night. We called Luxor and the dispatcher said "Are you going to tell me where you are or do I have to guess?" I gave my address and asked for an ETA. The dispatcher said 10 min and hung up. 20 min passed and I again called. After being on hold for 10 minutes, I was told it would be 10 min and the dispatcher again hung up. 20 minutes passed and I again called back. I was told they were busy and no cabs were in my area (I live in the center of the city and was going downtown). I cancelled the cab and we drove ourselves, which is what I should have done in the first place. The taxi service in this city is horrible.
Pros: at least I didn't have an emergency
Cons: waiting for an hour

Luxor is the one I count on when I've GOT to be there sooner than overnight! The drivers are reliable--they won't decide to stand you up in favor of your lowlife neighbor who tries to steal your cab (HA HA YOU WEASEL-HEADED WOULD-BE CAB JUMPER! ) and they'll actually get out to open doors and help with baggage. These folks are the next best thing to having your own chauffeur.
Pros: Drivers really check to make sure no one is jumping your call!
Cons: Shiftless neighbors may try to jump your cab anyway.

The dispatcher on the phone was SO rude. First off she told me they were really busy. I told her that I don't have an elevator and I have to get down 5 flights of stairs with my broken leg (to get to the hospital). It was 9:00am and I asked for a taxi at 10:00am, but I wanted to give her a heads up that even though I was starting to take on the stairs at 9:30am that it may take me a few minutes longer to get to the taxi, she yelled, "Oh that's great! I told you we were really busy and you're going to make the taxi wait around! And then she hung up on me! I wouldn't take a luxor cab anywhere ever again if you paid me. Luxor doesn't repect it's customers.

I too lost my phone in a Luxor cab this past Wed. Fortunately I've placed a sticker with my home # on it so a finder can locate me. Once when it was lost the finder reached me at home, offered to take my address and mail to me. This time I wasn't so sure I'd get it back. 24 hours had passed and I had visited the store to purchase a new one but the sales staff couldn't reactive the account. Lucky for me too because when it returened home Luxor had called me at home (48 hour later) but they called. As their buisness office was closed at 3:30 PM on Friday I had to go the weekend without a phone but retreiving it today. I'm just glad I thought ahead and provided an easy way for them to notify me.

After a trip from the airport to Oakland in a Luxor cab with my 4 year old daughter and several bags the driver of my cab left with my phone in the back seat. I tried to whistle him down as he drove off. I ran inside and dialed my phone several times. No luck. I then began a series of attempts to get Luxor to help identify the cab and driver about whom I'd learned a lot on the trip home, e.g. his birth state, Viet Nam service in the Presidio. I got little help from Luxor. I was told that without a cab number they would do nothing. One operator hung up on me as I asked questions about their dispatch procedures complaining that they had lots of cabs and no time for this. He suggested that I could visit their garage and wait until the driver appeared.

Luxor used to have a very good reputation in SF and I used them a lot. However, they have gone way done hill. Last week, I called a cab and when it pulled up outside of my apartment I went to it. However, it had pulled away before I could get outside. I called again and complained. Another cab was sent. It arrived and did the same thing. In addition, I had to wait on hold 10 minutes just to get a dispatcher each time. This service sucks.

I was in SF this weekend and used LUXOR Cab company quite a bit. The dispatchers were friendly and the drivers were professional, courteous and easy going. The wait time was anywhere from 5 - 25 minutes on the weekend. I will definitely use LUXOR again on my next trip!
Pros: Friendly, Professional, Courteous
