Hotel has gone downhill

by GSP

This hotels charm is no longer the same. The management has changed and their amenities are not there. There used to be a great breakfast, but that is replaced by a meager excuse of a breakfast. The rooms are old and tired, i think the last time that they were upgraded was 15years ago. The rooms facing the street are very noisy, the windows do nothing to keep out the noise from the traffic or the nightclub across the street at 2am in the morning. I will not be returning to this hotel.

  • Pros: Good neighborhood
  • Cons: Noisy old small rooms.

Great San Francisco Hotel

by marktree

My sister and husband came to visit me here in San Francisco for their anniversary and they stayed in one of the suites at the Edward Hotel, they raved about how friendly the staff were and loved the warm cozy atmosphere of the hotel and also the great seafood they had at Cafe Maritime which is right next door.

I will definitely recommend this hotel to all my other friends and relatives.

  • Pros: beautiful location, comfy beds, gym, restaurant & pub
  • Cons: busy traffic

Disappointed

by ed777

We have stayed at several bed and breakfasts throughout the U.S. and this is our preferred way of traveling for the great service we get from the owners. Edward II, was an exception to the consistent good service we have gotten from B&B owners. We stayed at the Edward II over labor day and flew out early in the morning. The person at the front desk would do nothing to accommodate our early flight after I asked her several times if she could leave out some fruit or coffee. She acted as if the breakfast was a luxury and not part of the stay. If we wanted someplace to just lay down for the night, we would of stayed at the Super 8 across the street.

  • Pros: Clean rooms
  • Cons: Service, Parking extra, No breakfast

Pretty good considering the price

by phoenix_68

The facility is a bit shabby and it's on a very busy street (Lombard), but given the reasonable (considering that it's San Francisco!) cost, it's a nice enough place to stay. It is nowhere near downtown--it's in the Marina neighborhood which is charming and allows easy access to the Presidio, Palace of Fine Arts and Golden Gate Bridge. There's a decent variety for breakfast-- fresh fruit, yogurt, cereal, bagels, toast, assorted pastries, juice, coffee. Staff was attentive and helpful.

  • Pros: pleasant staff, decent breakfast, nice neighborhood
  • Cons: a bit run down, loud/busy street

Stay at EII!

by thirteenpines

We stayed two nights @ the Edward II and felt very much at home. Service was excellent, hotel charmingly decorated, breakfast fresh, and general ambiance peaceful and comfortable, not to mention very romantic. We had a room with a shared bath, but found it not at all a problem. Great value, great area. Absolutely recommended!

English country decor and an old-fashioned pub take guests back to the early days of British B&Bs.

by Contributor

The Scene
The Edward II, once known as the Hotel Edward, was built in 1914, making it one of the oldest buildings in San Francisco's Marina District. Just a short hike from the city's yacht harbor, the sunny, three-story B&B on the corner of Scott and Lombard streets has a decidedly English feel.

The Amenities
Green leaf and floral-print decor gives the rooms a country-garden feel. The Brambles suite, decorated in classic Victorian style, features a four-poster canopy bed with a wicker vanity and whirlpool. Other suites boast living rooms, kitchens and wet bars. The inn's apartment suites, the Carriage House Annex and the Cottage, are located just across the street from the main building. Complimentary continental breakfast is served in the breakfast room, where huge picture windows and Tiffany-style floral panels flood the inn with early morning sun.

Great neighborhood

by nbryan

My wife and I just returned from a wonderful stay at the Edward the II. For those looking for a place with more character and charm than the chain hotels can offer, I would highly recommend the EII. The upscale neighborhood is safe and fun to explore by foot. There are numerous excellent restaurants within a short walk. The waterfront area is a brisk 10-15 minute stroll away, and offers spectacular views of the Golden Gate bridge and Alcatraz island. The staff was friendly and the hotel was very clean. We shared a bathroom the first night of our stay and only paid $88 for the room. Pretty unbelievable for San Fran! Nice continental breakfast. We will return.

  • Pros: inexpensive, neighborhhod, convenient
