Comet Club should be avoided like the plague
by eire7
It's been about six months since I went to the Comet Club, mostly because I got five bones in my face broken there. I went on a crowded saturday night and it seemed like a typical crowded, sweaty S.F. bar that overcharged for drinks.
Towards the end of the night, I got popped in the face by some guy I didn't know with a fun trip to the emergency room and surgery shortly after. The "bouncers" didn't see it happen even though I was about 5 feet from the front door and didn't stop the guy that I pointed out.
Even worse though was the response from the bar manager when my friends went back looking for who did it. He said that I had been punched outside and it wasn't their issue. I've heard second-hand accounts of other people being randomly assaulted in the nearby vicinity.
Enter at your own caution.
- Pros: It sells liquor
- Cons: People there suckerpunch you for no reason
A minimalist lounge bringing a 70s and 80s vibe to the Marina.
by Contributor
In Short
Imbibers enter the darkened doorway of the club and find their way to a white leather banquette with enough room for a substantial group of friends. Red candles reminiscent of backyard barbecues provide some of the only light in this entirely red-and-black-decorated space. The back of the long and narrow bar has a space for dancing (replete with disco ball) to nostalgic hits of the 70s and 80s, but weekdays bring a more laid-back neighborhood experience.
Good Marina bar!

I was visited friends in the Richmond area for the weekend and we cruised over to the Marina. We were planning on going to Matrix across the street and just ended up staying at the Comet Club. The drinks were strong and the bartenders were friendly. We met girls right away that were down to dance. It was a good mix of locals and people from all around the city. The music wasn't just the same mainstream stuff you hear everywhere else. I thought we just went on a lucky night. Two nights later we went back and it was even better. I recommend this place to anyone who wants a mix of a trendy nightclub and a local dive bar.
- Pros: Social scene, music, service
- Cons: Small dance floor
Great retro bar!

We went to Comet Club last Saturday for our birthday and we had a blast. They played 80's and some hip-hop. The bartenders were cute too. Drinks were good and inexpensive. It got really packed and we danced our assses off!!!
Great place for dancing and happy hour!
Walked in and Right out

left the matrix with some girls who wanted to dance. they took us here. it was dead at 11p on a Saturday - we literally walked right in and right out. left to go someplace else. needs a serious makeover.
- Pros: no people
- Cons: no people

- Pros: good prices, good drinks, cute bartenders
- Cons: real crowded place
They need a new DJ
by filmstudlo
The DJ was horrible! He played no new music and would go from 80's Madonna to Nelly and then slow it down with impossible songs to dance too. The dance floor is way too small. Although it was nice to go to a "club" without having to pay between $10-20, the $3 cover was a joke. The drinks were OK. The service was OK. The place was just OK. If they change their music the place would be a lot more fun!

Does anyone else think Comet Club is out of place for the area??? Someone help! It's a nice place to shake your booty after cocktailing around at the other places on the street. In fact, it may be the only one?! It's dark, slighty dingy, the decor isn't much, get's extremely crowded. Drinks are not so good but the old-skool, pop- music is fun.
- Pros: music
- Cons: drinks, cover charge
$5.00 cover? For what?
by phpeters87
$5.00 to get in to a small, dark bar with a dance floor about the size of my mattress.
- Pros: Old skool dance music
- Cons: Tiny dance floor, $5.00 cover charge
Fun without the Attitude
by Anon_Anon_TC
Fun place. Could have used another couple of bartenders to keep the drinks coming faster. The music wasn't anything unique, but you know all the words and can boogy your backside off on the dance floor. Good mix of people although you'll run into a few blockheads.
- Pros: No Attitude
