Great for a game of chess and a tasty beer.
by j_ob1
Check out the "Men of the Black Horse" charity calendar, its a big score with the ladies, or challenge gentleman Kris Miller to a rousing match of chess. Its always a good time at the Black Horse!
- Pros: Small and full of character (and characters)!
- Cons: Small and the menu consists of cheese, not necessarily a bad thing.
Imbibers step back into the 19th century at this diminutive Marina pub.

The Scene
Billed as the tiniest bar in San Francisco (or maybe anywhere), this place is not for the claustrophobic. Quarters are so close that a trip to the restroom requires everyone along the bar to stand up. But the small space elicits an almost Victorian civility, for its pint-downing patrons and regulars follow the "Rules of Behavior" (conveniently tacked to the wall for the uninitiated).
The Draw
Conversation poaching, cell phones and negativity are discouraged--and gentlemen are expected to relinquish their seats to the ladies. Cheese plates from around the world and two ever-changing house ales comprise the menu. A time clock in the back isn't for employees--it's to clock the time an individual spends bellied up to the bar. When patrons reach 1,000 hours, their time card is nailed to the wall of shame, er, fame.
TINY
by chefbum
Yes, this place is tiny and a little noisy. If you like unique bars with personality, this place is a must-see. It's near the Marina but nothing like it. The owners who operate it are friendly and interesting as well.
- Pros: tiny, tiny, noisy
- Cons: friendly, fun, unique

This pub is all about being different than your typical Marina offerings. Whether the limited beer menu (2 bottled, one draught) the signature cheese (1) or the bartender Joe. This is a great neighborhood pub and is the smallest you may ever find. I love finding places like this where the atmosphere, service and conversation make the place notable. A SF gem.
