Great Place for Authentic Thai Food
by kingkong
My family have been dinning at Marnee Thai restaurant for the last 15 years and never one time disappointed. Our last visit to the restaurant was last nite. We love the mango salad, corn cakes, spicy and sour PoTaek soup, Prawns with String Beans, and Pad Thai Silver Noodle. We would recomend anyone for any item on the menu you will never be disappointed.
- Pros: Great Food and Reasonable Price
- Cons: Too Busy
Wonderful Thai Food
by Thai Food Lover
My husband and I have been to Marnee Thai for over 20 years and always enjoy their authentic Thai food. We had to move out of the city due to my husband's work, but we always go back to eat and visit the staff there when we are in town. We love all their dishes especially the new dish called "Avocado Salad". For the new customers, I reccommend to order different dishes everytime you go back; don't be afraid to try new dishes because you will love them all like us.
- Pros: Best Thai Food, Freindly Service, and Great Prices
- Cons: Parking can be a little bit challenge sometimes.
WORST RESTAURANT ALL TIME
by casanfranciscoliu
I had a worst experience of all time in this restaurant. First of all, reservation does not work here. I made a reservation and I still had to wait in line for our table. Second, they just want to make money and rush you. We were asked to place the order while standing waiting for our table, and then they rushed the food to us and give us the check before we even finish our dinner. Bad services, they didn't give us water after we asked 3 times. WORST attitude, because their service was so bad, I decided that forget about the tip. They don't deserve it. The owner even came out of the door and asked for the tip. What the... I will be happy to give the tip if you perform good service. But, ask for tip outside the door.
The food is not as good. You can have better Thai food at Ploy II on Haight or Grand Pu-Bah on Division.
TOTALLY DISAPPOINTED. NEVER GO BACK.
- Pros: Nothing good
- Cons: Everything is bad
Inexpensive, tasty Thai food!
by anniken9
I went here just the other day, and just the place surprised me. I saw on the walls that it was chosen best thai food in SF by Citysearch. It wasn't a small, stinky, germy place. It was designed so that you felt like you were in a hut. The thai ice tea is very sweet. Pad thai is nice and refreshing, while at the same time is tasty. I think that the waitress was a little bit slow, but the food came in about 10 mins. It's inexpensive, and all comes together as a nice dinner and lunch place.
- Pros: Food, Price, Service, and Seating
- Cons: Parking (very busy street)
worst experience ever!

I went to the 9th ave branch.
After I went home, I found that I have been charged extra for the tip.
The waiter charged exactly 20% for tip although I gave 12%. The cashier changed the tip amount and charged more on my card.
What a bad experience!
I never had such an experience in any restaurant.
Tip is given for great service and 20% tip should be given on my will.
I will never go to this restaurant.
Fabulous blends of flavors with a warm and welcoming vibe

We happened upon this gem of a restaurant while visiting from LA for the weekend. Serendipity was at work steering us here! The proprietress, May, took us under her wing, recommending their most famous and popular dishes. The Larb salad with beef was light, but substantial, with incredible flavors on the beef and in the lime dressing. Another of May's recommendations was the noodle dish with soft shell crab - a melt-in-your mouth combination that all of us loved. Overall, we were totally impressed with the freshness of the food together with the brilliant use of spices and sauces. It was clear to us that the food is not only infused with love, but also with real culinary know-how. An added bonus was the great conversation we had with May, who advised us not only on food choices, but also on our future fortunes. A great evening overall!
Thai food here is one of the best!
by GoldenState03
The food was good as always. The servers were busy as usual. There was a tall guy serving in particular and he gets the food to us with no problem. Mind you that the spaces between the tables are quite narrow and you can hurt yourself when you're not careful! =\ Other than that, the food was something! From what I've read here below, all I can say is I can respect everyone's opinion. Hey we can say all we want! It's a free country! Haha! Now I want some Marnee Thai again for sure! Bring on the Pad Tai! =)
- Pros: Good food. Good place.
- Cons: Narrow spaces between tables
Go for the food... Pick up the new book when you go home!

I've eaten at many Thai restaurants around the Bay Area. By far the best one I've been to. I tend to be picky and usually only eat the same dish. Can't go wrong with about any dish and makes being "adventurous" a good thing! Went on a night that Chef Chei was at the original restaurant, selling his new book and signing them as well. He's a great guy to put the price at a low amount for a signed, first edition book ($35... try getting any of those Food Network chefs signed books for under $100) and even stayed at our table to discuss the receipes with us on a busy night. I'll keep going there, but now I can have any of these great dishes whenever I don't have the time to get out there...
Best Thai Food in SF

As soon as you arrive the staff greets with you a hello and quickly begins setting up your table even on their busiest nights I've only had to wait for a few minutes. The spicy angel wings are best in town, a little messy but totally worth it. Also, ask about the recommendations or favorite dishes that's how I discovered the green papaya salad and corn cakes. Both scrumptious and other favorites include the yellow curry followed by anything from the wok and topped off with Roti with coconut ice cream. It's all about sweet and spicy at this place and I was surprised at the good selection of wine they had to compliment the food. I've taken several friends and family members to this restaurant and they all walk away loving it and looking forward to their next visit.
- Pros: the food
- Cons: ambience, parking
Best Pad Thai and Angel Wings Ever
by lild14369
Went to Marnee Thai due to Zagat reviews and friend's recommendations and it was the best. I recently traveled to Thailand and the pad thai's and angel wings there were not as tasteful as Marnee's. The owner might seem outspoken but once you get to know them, they greet you with a warm and loud greeting! The service is fast and the food is delicious. Been back to both locations ever since. So come with a big appetite for fast service and amazing food!!!!
- Pros: fast service, great food, an owner that reads your fortune!!
- Cons: addictive angel wings!!
