Not bad for fast food.

by DianaRubalcava

Not bad for fast food. It was certainly slightly better than a burger joing, but not a whole heck of a lot better. Parking at this location is pretty darn hellish too.

Delicious italian

by bagawk

I am always weary of "chain" restaurants but I am glad I did not let that stop me from trying this place, several times. The food is reasonably priced, fresh, tasty what else can ya ask for? They are open till 11pm on some days which is very convenient. If you feel like some pasta but don't feel like visiting the North Beach Zoo give this place a try. All the taste without all the fanfare!

  • Pros: Value. Open Later. Casual. Delicious!
  • Cons: Parking (like any other place in that area)

Rude Manager, disusting food, they close when they feel like it!

by nnayebi

Used to love Pasta Pomodoro. Recently, they keep changing the menu (and raising the prices,) while the food gets worse and the portions get smaller. On our last visit, the food and service were HORRIBLE! I have the same problem with their Union St location. At this place though, the manager is extremely unfriendly and RUDE. The other big problem is that they close whenever they feel like it. For example, if they say they close at 10PM and you get there at 9:15, tough... if they're not busy they're going to close! Not very dependable... don't count on dining there. A while ago, it was worth it because the food was good and the prices were low, but now, I'd rather go to a real restaurant.

  • Pros: location, but that's not helping them apparently
  • Cons: Rude manager, bad food, bad service, prices going up, close whenever they want

Reasonably priced Italian cuisine is the hallmark of this local pasta chain.

In Short
Pale-green walls with red accents and a bustling open kitchen are consistent elements of this Bay Area mini-chain. Popular dishes include penne with sauteed eggplant, basil and fresh mozzarella, and primavera linguine with asparagus, broccoli, eggplant and tomato. Salads range from a grilled vegetable mix to a Caesar with pecorino cheese.

Poor Servoce. Recommend Different Location!

by pointeshoes

I am a fan of Pasta Pomodoro, but I never go back to this restaurant on Irving Street. Waiters are rude; they are busy chatting among them and they do not care about customers. I ordered vegetable dish with whole wheat penne. I made sure I want this with penne. When mine came, I had only vegetable portion. I ask them to add penne. They did add penne, but no apologize or anything. Since they are busy talking, they just want us to eat and leave. I rather go to another location, like on Market Street in Castro district. They are very polite and offer good services.

Friendly reliable delicious Italian

by jane_smly

I've been here dozens of times, and never recall a time when I wasn't greeted by a genuinely friendly waitress. I don't know how they do it, but they always hire excellent people. The butternut squash ravioli with sage and brown butter sauce is something they would serve you at a fancy Napa restaurant for twice the price and you wouldn't know the difference. So thumbs up to PP for always being so surprisingly good. My only complaint is that their pesto and foccaccio combo, which they always serve at the beginning of a meal, used to taste better - the pesto especially seems to have changed in recipe. Used to have tons of basil but now is mostly oil.

  • Pros: tasty food, friendly staff, cheap
  • Cons: restaurant kitchen vents into main dining hall so food smell everywhere

Great pasta for cheap

by anaidsf

Pasta Pomodoro has been my favorite pasta place. I enjoy the Capellini which is a rather inexpensive but great tasting dish as well as the Rigatoni (formerly Gemelli). the staff is very friendly and once a couple times have i actually had to wait for more than 5-10 minutes. i like the outdoor seating in the back, even in the winter it is enjoyable because they have the huge heaters. overall, highly recommended!

  • Pros: great food, cheap, friendly staff
  • Cons: 9th & irving parking

by aswirlymatrix

I've never had a problem or complaint with this Pasta Pomodoro. Their food is always piping hot, fresh, and, most important, delicious! It can be a crowded and a little too loud but the service is always friendly and prompt and the food always meets expectations.

If you want great pasta for a great value, this is the place!

  • Pros: great value, good food
  • Cons: bad parking
