There are better Thai food elsewhere

by foodielover

Not the best Thai food to be found in the city. They have lunch specials for around $8 which is a bargain. Comes with a cup of hot & sour cabbage soup, one appetitzer (choice of fish cake, egg roll, beef/chicken satay, etc), rice and 2 entrees. The chicken satay was a dried piece of chicken breast on a skewer. The peanut sauce was watery and blandish. I had the eggplant/pork which was OK, the chicken & peanut sauce over spinach was better. The Thai iced tea had mostly ice and too much cream, could barely taste the tea. I had leftovers and asked for a takeout container. The waitstaff brought a large coffee cup with lid! Had to ask him again for a proper box. I'd rather go down the street to Marnee Thai for better tasting food.

  • Pros: Good lunch deal
  • Cons: food's not great, wait staff not too friendly, hard to find parking

For Thai cuisine without the bank-breaking flight to Bangkok, check out this bejeweled Inner Sunset stop.

by Chelsea Sime

To step into Sukhothai is to be surrounded by kitschy, colorful contents of the country's popular night markets. The silk-and-lace tablecloths, teak statutes, ornate gold wall hangings and various other Thai tchotchke are dripping from every surface, leaving diners dazzled by the decor and distracted from the menu: a standard list of fairly authentic Thai dishes mixed with a few Americanized favorites. Those who have traveled to the country's north (the city of Sukhothai, a World Heritage Site of ruins, is about six hours north of Bangkok) will recognize dishes like papaya salad, laab (ground chicken or pork with mint leaves and chilies) and barbecued calamari or meatballs.

In the Sunset there are better options

by laurendito

While the server was very nice, he didn't seem to know much about waiting tables, he brought out the wrong dish more than once and didn't realize until we did. The dishes we ordered were not accurately described in the menu and we were disappointed with most of the things we ordered. Their curry was pretty good though. It wasn't the worst Thai food but in the Sunset you have better options.

Worse service ever...

by fyall12

The food was ok. The service wasn't that great from the beginning of the meal, and ended with the worse. After we had paid and tipped our bill and gone outside of the restaurant, the hostess came running after us asking why we tipped them so little. Instead of gracefully receiving what they deserved for tips, they embarrassed us publicly. Needless to say, that would be the last time we will dining at that restaurant.

BEST THAI FOOD!

by lali

Thankfully not many people know how DELICIOUS this restaurant is, which is why it is not very crowded. The food is fabulous and top quality. The chicken dishes are filled with white chicken (breast) meat - not cheap dark meat often found at these types of restaurants. The curries are wonderful, as are all of their dishes. The staff is courteous and helpful. I just wish they would deliver! Great place.

  • Pros: Top quality food, Delicious, Great service

Great Place for Tasty Thai

by sk_chan

I went here with 2 friends for dinner. The Staff is very friendly and attentive. Our water was constantly filled and the food was excellent. Everything tasted very fresh, very flavorful and well made. The beef was tender and the patato puffs very light and golden brown. The portions aren't huge but that gives you a chance to sample multiple plates and try new dishes. The prices are great so you won't feel bad for ordering more. 2 thumbs up. Parking is tough so walk. It's good for you.

  • Pros: Great Service, Great food, Great Prices
  • Cons: Parking

BEST CRABCAKES

by thaifoodeater

I went into this restraunt expecting less after eating at Marnee Thai, but I was soon wrong. The Crab Cakes were excellent and the best I've ever tasted. The curry was excellent too! better then Marnee Thai. I expected less from this restraunt because of the boring sign (it's been there since it first opened) and the dark interior of the restraunt with bland non colorful designs, but the food is excellent!

Tom Ka Gai to die for

by lyrica

I'm always surprised that there aren't more people in this place. The food is fresh and well-prepared, it's inexpensive, the service is always pleasant and the atmosphere, while kitschy, is nice and quiet. (Though i suppose it wouldn't be if more people showed up. :) They also happen to make the best tom ka gai soup i've ever had...the chicken can be a bit tough, but the broth is heavenly. The only problems I can see is that parking is dismal in that area, and they don't deliver, so getting it to go can be a problem.

  • Pros: fresh, tasty food, inexpensive, quiet
  • Cons: bad parking, no delivery
