Andronicos: I wish I was a Whole Foods
by PaxAxe
Every time I shop at Andronicos (which is only when I absolutely have to) I can't help but wonder why the costs are so high, or where all that cost mark-up goes as I wait in ridiculously long, understaffed check-out lines. At least at Whole Foods you can get some degree of service for the money you're spending.
If you need help finding something, good luck in finding someone to help you. Help cuts in to their profits maybe?
Along with being understaffed, they are usually under-stocked as well, so if there is a sale, again good luck in finding any left, just "try coming back on Thursday".
- Pros: Has SOME items that you can't get at Safeway
- Cons: You will pay more for just about anything

This is the sad excuse the Sunset has to offer in place of a Whole Foods. Their products are expensive, and there's a huge lack of selection. Their meat isle is especially lacking as the only grass-fed beef I was able to buy one day is pre-chopped for beef stew. Also, the only organic anything in terms of protein was chicken.
Quite pretentious little supermarket.

Quite pretentious little supermarket. Prices are fairly expensive. You run into a lot of soccer moms. But hey, if you're looking for good food and don't mind all of the above, then this is a great supermarket. They have a lot of everything. The food that they offer is pretty great. They have fun desserts, plants, some ethnic food. It's like a little Whole Foods in the Sunset. My favorite thing that they offer is their date bars. They're like fig newton bars, but totally unhealthy and yummy. Man, they're good!!!
Go for the glamour at this extremely well-stocked and shopper-friendly supermarket.

Organic beans, grains, and pastas are sold in bulk, and beautiful fresh produce beckons from clay pots and baskets. Health food here doesn't cater only to vegetarians; Andronico's offers healthy options to carnivores too. The seafood counter provides lots of nutritional facts and charts, and you pick your own fish from the large fish tanks-how much fresher can it get? A large and varied selection of wines and microbrews finishes off your shopping.
A delightful shopping experience at Andronico's is sure to make you dread your next visit to the city's less glamorous grocery stores.

Where else can you find ostrich, (the "Healthy Red Meat"), 98-percent fat-free seafood sausages, crab cakes, and a rotisserie counter boasting no additives or preservatives all in one place?
Convenient, well-stocked

Andronico's on Irving is a well-stocked store with plenty of friendly staff to help out. My favorite is the wine steward. He can help you find just the bottle for the occasion.
- Pros: friendly staff, good selection
- Cons: smelly meat department
Don't Miss This Place!

I love this market! I wish there was one in San Diego!! This is like a Dean & Deluca times 10. They have foods from all over the world and the variety of everything from olives to wines is outstanding.
Everytime I go to San Francisco I will stop by this market.
