Back when you could hit GG Park GC on a sunny weekday afternoon, pay about $7, it was a great value. Sure it's a small course. It plays quick. You never really get a chance to haul off and whack the ball. There are slow-playing amateurs everywhere. These things are okay if the price is cheap. Unfortunately, the current price of $18 on a WEEKDAY is absolutely ludicrous. I have lived in this city for 10 years, but the resident card requirements are ridiculous when you're a renter. It should be enough that my drivers license has an SF adress on it. This price is just crazy based on what you get for the money. All the annoyances really get to you when you are paying top dollar. Save the headache, and go play a beautiful 18 at Lincoln Park for just a few dollars more.
Pros: close to the city, decent views, good for beginners
Cons: too expensive, short yardage, lots of kids

For a less etiquette-conscious course my friend and I expected a relaxing 9 holes and brought a few drinks and snacks to eat while waiting for people in front of us to finish the hole. Instead the cashier held our back pack at the door. To avoid the golf Nazi, just pay the green fees and bring your personal belongings straight to the tee. You'll avoid the hassle and can focus on enjoying your game.
Pros: Nice location
Cons: can not share clubs

THE place to learn and play. Excellent instructors that teach kids not just the game of golf but proper golf etiquette and life skills. I am very impressed. VERY affordable and a great place to take the kids to hit some balls without going broke! They were very welcoming and friendly and I felt right at home although my kids and I have never been on a golf course before. Now the kids and I all take lessons and play in their family tournaments. Staff and other players very helpful.
Pros: well kept, parking, good attitudes

Couldn't ask for more in a par 3 9 hole. Great location, well kept and great way to practice short game.

I am a handicap 10, but I like to practice my short game in a "real course". Golden Gate is the best for it. A lot of new golfers, so, you need to be ready to be patient with them. The price is very reasonable (better than going to a driving range). Also, you don't need to book a tee time, just drive over there!
Pros: Close to the city, Don't need a tee time
Cons: lot of new golfers :)
