Absolutely fine
by chrishavel
Service was prompt. One waitress wasn't overly friendly, but everyone else was quite accommodating. We were the only non-Chinese in the place. Food was hot and delicious ... we had lemon chicken (terrific), Mongolian beef (good, but not as spicy as it should have been) and braised tofu with vegetables. Tofu was creamy and wonderful. Reasonable prices, but it took a little circling to find parking. Eat after 6, when the meters aren't running. Would visit again.
- Pros: Fresh, hot, tasty food
- Cons: Limited parking
Avoid if possible, terrible customer service

Please stay away from this restaurant because they have no good customer service. We went on family trip to the beach this weekend and decided to dine in for dinner because it was nearest one with parking space. When we approached the window, we saw that the waitresses were formally dressed and the restaurant looked elegant. When we came through the door, the host asked if we had a reservation which we informed him no. Then he proceeded to tell us that we are only limited to dine for thirty minutes. I was shocked because I have never in my life been told by a restaurant to eat within a certain time limit. We didn't mind his statement because we were hungry and unfamiliar with the area and didn't want to cruise the town for another restaurant. We got seated and ordered but the waitress never brought us water. After our food arrived, I had to ask her to bring us some water. There were seven of us and they only brought us four glasses of water. I would have to agree with other raters that the food was extremely over-priced and they gave us half the food that we paid for. The food did not even fill up the plate. They never came and refill our water or came around to check on us. The restaurant was not packed and waitresses were just standing around, but no one came and serviced us. Not only that, when we paid our bill, they didn't bring back our change. We have over fifteen dollars in change, which they automatically assume they deserved as tips. I told my husband that I would have no problem giving them my change as tip, however, they did not deserve it as they did not provide good customer service to us and they limited us to order, eat, and leave. It made us feel really uncomfortable while dining. I literally had to ask the waitress for my change. She didn't look happy but I didn't care because she did not deserve the tip. She should be grateful I gave her five dollars for tip when she didn't deserve any at all. Terrible customer service!!!
- Pros: Free parking and easy access
- Cons: Terrible customer service

This place used to be good. I have been here several times before. However, it has gotten worst over the years. Food was ok, it was the normals things that you would get in other less expensive places. However, service was pretty bad. People there must not like their job, for they act very awfully toward their customers. This is perhaps the worst place (in terms of service) in the Richmond district. For better tasting food and better service, try the one on 18th Ave.
- Pros: ok food
- Cons: Expensive, Crowded, Bad service
Food is okay, but not the service
by lovewhistler
The waiters and the waitresses are okay. The manager of this particular Mayflower is detestable. In traditional Chinese "drink tea", people usually enjoy their time there and spend a while enjoying their tea and dim sum. The manager of this restaurant gave us looks and made nasty sarcastic comments in cantonese while standing behind my sister when we were at the restaurant for about an hour.
We are returning customers. We ate at that restaurant every other sunday for the past year. I was generally very pleased with the restaurant until the manager made those nasty sarcstistic commets. We are never returning to any MayFlower again and have decided not to host my wedding banquet at the Milpitas MayFlower either because of this incident.
- Pros: value, authetic dim sum
- Cons: Service, Service, Service
best dim sum restaurant you'll find
by tooweird
first of all i gotta say i've eaten here all my life...me being Chinese...i'm picky about chinese food. The Mayflower restaurant is very good on service. The review above about rude waitresses...never heard of such a thing ever. Many people i know have been there and nothing but good things have been said. The food is excellent and it also depends on what you order. Service is good. the food is good...i recommend this to people a lot!
- Pros: good food, excellent service, inexpensive
- Cons: dirty bathrooms, bad parking, crowded
Authentic Cantonese food; great seafood selection
by eyhung47
As a Chinese person, let me tell you: like most Chinese restaurants, Mayflower is crowded, noisy and the service isn't going to be top-notch. That said, the food is tasty and their live (fresh) seafood is great. My favorites are the steamed fish with ginger/scallions/soy sauce and chicken stuffed with sticky rice (has to be pre-ordered).
- Pros: Fresh seafood, Reasonable prices, Street parking
- Cons: Loud/crowded , Long waits
i'm from hong kong - great dim sum
by hong_kong_foodie
i am chinese from hong kong, and mayflower has consistently served great dim sum for the last 10-15 years. it would probably merit a B or B+ compared to the A- and A dim sum you find in hong kong. however, i went to dinner a few months ago and found the food to be so-so, and the service to be rude. then again, almost all good chinese restaurants have rude service (it's part of our culture - just ask any chinese) and if you want authentic food and experience, that's what you get. i agree there are hundreds of chinese restaurants in sf alone, but mayflowers is probably top five in the city for dim sum - just ask anyone from hong kong (as opposed to your american coworker!).
- Pros: great dim sum
Spacious corner restaurant hosts a frenzied crowd for dim sum.

In Short
Customers clamoring for a seat spill out of this Richmond District eatery while families and groups of friends take up the large tables inside. Instead of rolling carts through the cramped quarters, waitstaff passes out menus for diners to check off their orders. Expect all of the standard offerings, including steamed pork buns, egg custard cakes, roasted duck, deep-fried soft shell crab and black sesame sweet dumplings, all between $2 and $5.
Rude hostess
by jgiulini
I've been to this restaurant twice. First with a group of 10+ people. The service was OK and the food was good. I returned several months later with a friend and this time reveals a darker side of the place. The rude hostess did everything possible to tell us that a tiny group like mine wasn't at all welcome. I tried to order some giant clam and was told that the minimum order was 2 lbs (2 lbs of giant clams!). I tried another chicken dish and was told that it'd take a long time to prepare. Even though the food was good I will not stand for this kind snobbery. There are tens of dozens of Chinese restaurants in San Francisco. Most treat you with dignity. Not this one!
- Pros: Good food..., if you're with a big, group
- Cons: arrogant hostess
