We are a small, community minded school with amazing kids and fabulous teachers, all of whom have been at Sutro for years. There is very little turnover when it comes to staff, which helps maintain the continuity and smooth transitions between grades. Everyone knows every name of every child here, and it's because we care enough to learn about the kids as unique individuals. The kids truly impress upon us the importance of making the curriculum innovative, and learning fun and interesting. Visit a classroom and you'll see just how happy every kid in this school is. We are the best kept secret in the San Francisco Unified School District, without a doubt! Check out our kindergarten blog at: sutrokindergarten (dot) blogspot (dot) com.

Pros: Exceptional staff, well-developed and innovative curriculum, extra-curricular activities and programs

Cons: NONE.

Our school is a GREAT place where all of our children, along with all their friends, achieve great things every single day. This is only possible with a great support system, made up by a fantastic team of teachers and staff in a COMMUNITY environment. Every child receives individual attention- from adults that they idolize and love- every single day. Starting a new school year may feel scary and intimidating to a lot of other kids going to big schools. In our small school community, there is never a "transition phase". By the time we finish Kindergarten, we naturally know who 1st Grade teacher will be. From Day One each year, our teachers already understand how we learn best and what we play well. This is another of the countless reasons why we choose to send our children to Sutro School. Our teachers are those who give up their lunch breaks to teach our kids to play guitar and dream up adventures such as school sleepovers. Our school is forever bonded by strong friendships, where 5th graders take time out to read to their 1st grade peers. Our teachers and families join together on Gardening weekends to beautify our school. Our teachers stay up late at night to write online journals so that we parents can catch up on our children's day. Our school is truly one big happy family and we are thankful every single day. We drop our kids off every day knowing that they will be in good hands. As parents, this is a great relief.
