$12/person for music?
by kakinotane
The menu is limited and not necessary healthy.
There is a cover charge $12/person in addition to food, but it was disco type of music...electric guiters & drums. The waiters were friendly.
Never again

I am South American and I went with my parents who were visiting from out of town on their last night here. My folks hated it. The menu was limited and the food was mediocre and the service was poor. There was only one waiter. He never checked on drink refills, took 30 minutes to bring us our check, tried to charge us for the dinner performance when we had no idea there was one in advance of our dinner and then added 18% gratuity on the tab for a party of 4. The performance was awful. The loud music was the disruptive and the belly dancing unappetizing.

Okay, the food is not bad...but it is not authentic Bolivian cusine for the most part. The silpancho is good, but I would definitely skip the picante de pollo which was quite drab and tasteless. The saltenas are decent, but a far cry from the way a real way it should be done. Ambience is good, very quaint, but food is very average.
Unlike most...making it wonderful!

I have visited the Pena a number of times and have had nothing but wonderful experiences. The cozy, but lively ambiance always puts everyone in a great mood. The food is filling, but light. What I love most is the range of music and dance - Bolivian, Cuban, Flamenco, Tango, Brazilian and even Hawaiian. I always feel good about being there because I know I am supporting a place that truly deserves it. The upstairs is great for private parties too!
- Pros: prices, food, performances
- Cons: parking
A slice of South America comes to North Beach with authentic flavors and live entertainment.

In Short
Neighborhood types--from extended families to 20-something couples--fill this Latin restaurant and performance space, sparsely decorated with hanging lamps and colored spotlights aimed at a stage framed by faux rocks. The menu features Bolivian cuisine prepared with organic ingredients. Starters include homemade saltena, akin to a doughy Hot Pocket stuffed with a sweet ragout (beef or vegetable). The house specialty is pan-seared chicken paired with chunky mashed potatoes.
A great place

I have been to Pena Pacha Mama three times and have had a wonderful experience all three times. The wait staff made our large group (ranging from 10-25) feel like we were in Bolivia at a hole in the wall restaurant. The food was great and we had the option to stay and pay the cover charge for the musical act or leave right after dinner. Once we opted to stay and the other times we decided to go somewhere else for after dinner drinks. I am making reservations for another dinner in a couple of weeks. Try it out, I never knew there was a Bolivian restaurant in North Beach- it is a hidden gem.
Good food and great entertainment...

I've heard a lot of amazing things about Pena Pachamama, so when a friend was visiting from out of town-- thought it would be a great time to try it. It turned out to be a marvelous idea. The food was great-- and it is a great place for vegans and vegetarians and the entertainment was amazing. Would definetely recommend as a place for small groups and even for first dates...
