I miss the former owners! I've been shopping at B&B since they originally opened and have continued to shop there after the new owners took over because the prices are still competitive (although they most definitely have increased). The new folks don't know their inventory, are unable to make recommendations and often just read aloud from the merchandise labels when asked the difference btwn brands. If you know what you want when you walk in, down to the brand and size, you'll do OK there. But I sorely miss the expertise and knowledge offered by the former owners. Example: I recently had surgery and needed to purchase smaller sized packages of cat litter than what I usually bought, so I asked, "What's the least expensive unscented clumping litter you sell that weighs 15lbs or less?" The response was to send me back to the litter section, because no one could answer my question, nor could they pull up the info from their database. The only people who seem to know the merchandise are the two stock fellas who worked for the former owners, but unfortunately, they don't speak very much English. Also, unlike Pet Food Express, they don't issue a store credit if you need to return an opened package of food your finicky pet has refused. They suggest donating it, which is a nice thought, but not always convenient. If they believe in donating opened bags of food, why don't they just issue a credit and do the donating themselves? The people who work there are blandly pleasant, but seem pretty uninvolved in the business. Maybe at least part of what made the original B&B so great was that the people behind the counter were invested in the business.
Pros: low prices, large selection, at least they're not a chain!
Cons: unknowledgeable, uninvolved workers

This is a direct rebuttal to the previous review. We live a few blocks from B&B, and we've bought various items there over the past few years. After reading the negative review, I visited B&B to see if the problems mentioned actually existed, since we have had nothing but positive experiences there, under both the old and the new ownership. The minute I got in the door, the owner asked if he could help me find anything. When I told him what I was after, he immediately left the counter and found the item for me. I asked how things were going, and I mentioned the negative review. He felt bad about it, naturally, and he suggested that it may have been the result of the confusion during a recent store renovation. (They moved some counters around to allow more room near the entry) The bottom line: This place is still a great place to shop, with a very complete inventory, and friendly and knowledgable staff. Maybe the previous reviewer was just having a bad day?
Pros: Good parking, great service, good selection and good prices.
Cons: None that I can think of.

3 months ago the former owners sold the business and the new owners are horrible (an understatement I assure you). They are completely clueless about anything involving pets or how to run a business. First time I shopped there since the transition and they couldn't tell me where they had moved the ear cleaning solutions to. They also could not figure out how to work the register, it took them 15 minutes to figure out how to charge to my debit. The second time I went back, the owner laughed at someone in front of me in line for using a coupon on cat litter and the young man at register was extremely rude, he threw each can of food into a bag and then basically threw the bag at me. There were 15 cans in the bag and it broke when I picked it up, and then he gave me another bag without offering to help me pick up the rolling cans. Horrible, rude people. I'd rather pay retail then save 30% and shop there again. The former owners were amazing and it's sad how far B and B has fallen and will continue to fall.
Pros: prices
Cons: rude, unknowledgable, inexperienced staff

This store is family run. You feel better just knowing that you are supporting a small business. What's more the savings is truly amazing! What's more if they don't carry the product you want all that you need to do is just find them the SKU number of the item (say, browsing at an overpriced chain store ) and they will order it for you at a substantially discounted sale price! Now that is customer service! Example: I bought a very nice cat scratching post $15 cheaper then the obnoxious chain stores!
Pros: LOW PRICES!, Helpful & friendly, small business
Cons: Crowded on Sat., cramped, Parking on Sat.

Fantastic. The prices cannot be beat. Everything is at least 25% cheaper than major chain stores, in MANY (treats, dry dog food, brand name leashes and harnasses) cases 50% less then a chain store. They have all the top brands, everything that your dog or cat will ever need or want. I live 10 blocks away and I go twice a week sometimes. The two owners are nice, helpful, and knowledgable, they know everything there is to know about each product they sell. Do yourself a favor and shop here, you will never want to go anywhere else to buy your pet products.
Pros: great selection, amazing prices, great staff
Cons: no parking, long lines on Sat., closed Sun+Mon

I have 2 cats and a dog. Since the dog is a puppy, we had to buy him everything inlcuding collars, leash, car set belt, treatsie ball, food, bowls, crate, etc, etc. And all the food, treats, litter, etc for the cats. We save so much every month by going to B&B. Cat carriers at Petco were for 39.99. Same one at B&B was 29.99. Everything is at least 25% cheaper if not more. And they have a great selection of everything! I am surprised that the owners even know the location of every single item in the store. B&B is AWESOME!!! I would recommend it to every pet owner.
Pros: inexpensive, friendly staff, great selection
Cons: closed on sun, mon, super crowded sometim

This place is great. All kinds of food, treats and toys. And if you don't see what you want out, just ask as Sean or Sophie will usually shout into a walkie-talkie and make it magically appear from upstairs. They'll carry big bags of kibble out to your car. What more could you ask for? Did I mention that it's CHEAP. As in, dirt cheap.
Pros: great prices, great selection, great people

This is an awesome place to go shop with your dog. They're always giving out treats & all other pooches there are usually very friendly. Yes, it is a little cramped, ok, very cramped but it's worth it. They have pet supplies for pretty much all pets. And beyond that, each section has a great selection. The staff is friendly and always helpful. AND every weeks they have a day of low-cost vaccinations! The BEST prices in San Francisco.
Pros: Prices, Friendly Service, Great selection

B & B is definately my favorite pet store in the city. The prices are fabulous, and my dog always got a few treats from the friendly staff. We used to live around the block, but now we have to trek over there from farther away--but its worth it. The store is small, and often crowded, but they have a pretty large selection for the size. And did I mention the great prices?
Pros: Fabulous prices, Friendly service, Natural food choices

B&B's prices are FAR better than any pet stores in SF, especially the outrageous chains. In particular, they have a great selection of cat climbing trees at reasonable prices. Their staff is cheerful, friendly, and knowledgable.
Pros: value, selection, service
