Out-of-this-world!!!

by reeniem54

If you want to make a soujorn in Germany you simply have to visit Schubert's Bakery. I have tried about 10 different cakes and a variety of pastries and they are simply out-of-this-world!

The combined experience of viewing these artisitc masterpieces, listening to the classical music which they broadcast while having my tastebuds tantalized is exceptional.

All of their products are fresh. If fact, I sometimes buy "specials" which are reduced in price because they have expired. Yet, they still seem very fresh to me. Definitely one of the best bakeries in SF...and perhaps the world.

  • Pros: elegant atmosphere, high quality, a taste of Germany
  • Cons: parking can be difficult

Would not go again

by mooner72

I have ordered about 6 cakes. I would agree they make nice cakes, but the issue is their service. I arrived at 5:50 and the girl was basically kicking people out and was just being rude and using innappropriate language. When I asked to speak with the manager, btw I later found out he was the owner. He absolutely did nothing, what can I say food might taste great but when it's presented with poor service it's just not worth it. The owners really need to clean that service issue up, they are quite busy and I've ran into being treated rudely several times which I left it go till the last indcident. I found it interesting the one of the comments came from a loyal customer of 20 years that they would not go again.

Bottom line, I would not go there again.

The best bakery in town!!

by foodgalore

Schubert's has the best cakes...yum! I haven't found another bakery in town that beats it's quality and taste. The fruits are always fresh. I love their mousse and any of their fruit or chocolate cakes.

  • Pros: Good cakes, pastries
  • Cons: Busy

WUNDERBAR!

by tinymango

Everything here is delicious... I love the Princess Cake, the Double Chocolate Mousse, the Currant Mousse, the sticky buns, the jam sandwich cookies dipped in chocolate with some tea... it smells amazing and looks beautiful. The owners of the bakery are extremely nice.

And to whoever posted the last comment: no grocery store I ever saw sold a cake, let alone a princess cake as delicious as Schubert's!

This German bakery is wunderbar.

  • Pros: Beautiful cakes.
  • Cons: parking- if you want to stay for a while, you have to hunt around on the other side of Geary.

A little disappointing...

by shannon641

I had heard so many good things about Schuberts, but have to admit it was a bit of a let down. I got a slice of chocolate cheesecake, cappuccino mousse, and princess cake. The chocolate cheesecake didn't have very much flavor and the princess cake is good but no better than a cake you would get at a grocery store. The best one was the cappuccino mousse, but still didn't completely impress me. The service was by far the worst aspect of the experience! The girl was extremely rude and treated me like I was bothering her the entire time. The prices aren't bad, $2.95 per slice, but still not worth it. Save your money and go somewhere else!!

  • Pros: big selection, fair prices
  • Cons: rude service, no parking, below average cakes

Not impressed

by mwmiao

I have heard rave reviews about Schuberts from friends, but am totally disappointed. I had cakes from there on three occasions over the past 2 years thinking maybe the cake I got was just below their usual quality. Ordered the first cake in person about 2 days ahead. They must have given me the cake that was on display in the window from 2 days ago; it was one of the driest cakes I've ever had. Next, I tried a rasberry mousse cake; the mousse was very foamy with large air bubbles and the cake was dry. I also had the raspberry mousse cake at a dinner party, and the texture of the mousse and cake were no better. The third and last time, I ordered a buttercream cake for Mother's Day. They could not find my order, and the cake they gave me was moist, but barely.

  • Cons: not fresh, dry

Service gets worse and worse! Will never go back!

by mana1

We have been loyal patrons of this bakery for more than 20 years, but not anymore. We always orders our cakes from them (birthdays, weddings, etc.). However, this weekend they neglected to notify us of their mistake. When I went to pick up my order I was greeted with absolute indifference, and barely an apology. I was told that nothing could be done for me and to just pick something out from the case. After expressing my disappointment I was rudely told that they did not have time and that other customers were waiting! This is not the first time that they have messed up our order and treated us with rudeness. I have let it go in the past, but with their success they seem to have forgotten that EVERY customer is of value. We will NEVER recommend or buy another thing from them again.

  • Cons: Awful Service

great bakery!

by promesf

i finally went to Schubert's, cause i had to shop on Clement, and i wanted to eat a something good. i have to say, they know how to make good pastries and cookies. i loved their cheese puff. they also had teeny-weeny cookies w/ jam on top...sooo good! i had them w/ milk when i got home. i will be coming here more, now that one of my fave bakeries, Boniere Bakery in Alameda, has their menu w/ the new ownership.

  • Pros: great pasteries, service
  • Cons: location, parking

fantastic cakes

by rboul

My wife and I shopped around for a wedding reception cake, went to several of the supposedly "top notch" bakeries in East Bay, and were disappointed. A co-worker recommended Schuberts. When we walked in, our first thought was "Now THIS looks like a bakery". We got a tiramisu that was a piece of art and delicious. The catering staff at our reception spot said it was the best looking one they've seen and better taste than the one they sometimes made themselves. Have since tried Schubert's Princess, Opera, Italian Rum, and a few others. Great stuff. Staff helpful and prices really good. Parking not so bad early Sat morn (they open at 7am).
