I have had the pleasure of visiting this salon for more than two years now. My stylist is the LOVELY rosette. She is a master with the shears, creating lovely feminine shapes with a bit of edge. I am hopeless with hair and generally just want to tie it back with a rubberband and pretend it doesn't exist, but Rosette makes me feel like my hair is BEAUTIFUL. She is especially great at LAYERING- she can vary the layering to suit your tastes and wishes. I walk out of the salon looking very "Valley of the Dolls", a look that suits both my look and lifestyle. I was at a bar after a recent cut and actually had a girl take a picture of me with their cell phone so she could have a stylist replicate it. I'd also like to mention something here about the experience that is visiting Edo. Just being in the the space feels good. Often you'll be greeted by one of their gorgeous receptionists offering green tea or mineral water. There is a healthy stack of magazines for color and cut inspiration. The art is always changing and lends the room a slightly different mood each time. I really have enjoyed my experiences at this salon and suggest a visit to it for anyone seeking a beautiful haircut.

I do not usually take the time to write bad reviews - but this was such an awful experience, I cannot let other women make the same mistake. I asked for some depth to my light blond hair and I even offered magazine pictures that showed the slightly darker blond I was looking for. I walked out with bright red hair, similar to Ronald McDonald - no joke. I went back and the manager over saw the "fix" and I walked out with black hair to cover up the red. Their suggestion was to spend time in the sun and it would lighten up. I was devastated. I had to go to another salon, have my hair stripped of color and redyed (by the way, Sara at Acabello is AMAZING - she saved my hair and gave me the ability to leave the house again!!!) Edo was unapologetic and even argumentative over my experience. Do yourself a favor and AVOID this salon at all cost.

Pros: NONE

Cons: Skill Level, Color Stains all over skin and clothes, horrible color and service.

So I needed a haircut and a hair dye, I asked around and a co-worker recommended me to check out Edo, I went to city search and read the review, so I was relieved to see so many people just loved it. I called and took an appointment. A day before the appointment the stylist calls leaves a message basically stating that this is her from Edo, and my appointment is tomorrow, if I have any questions I’ll give them a call. OK so do you see anything in this message that prompts me to call back? NO! I mean if it stated call us back to confirm I would have! Anyways I go to Edo, reached there 10 minutes before the appointment, and the guy at the reception said, oh well is this the right number? I mean we called and you did not answer, I informed him about the message, so he asked me to wait “it’ll take a few minutes” ok no problem,, well few minutes became over 50 minutes! Well finally it was my turn, well let’s make this short, I wanted two hair colors, SHE flipped the colors locations making the dark one the majority when I clearly stated I only wanted it on the CROWN area! Ok she also drenched me with the dye, my clothes and my book! I wanted a hair trim which I said 0.5-1 inch, well my hair was almost to the half of my back, and now it barely reached shoulder length! And to top all of that I was charged the high end of both the hair cut, and the hair dye!! The audacity! Yeah paid about $200! I would not go back there again, but hey if so many people like it, don’t let this review stop you, apparently I am just plagued with bad luck!

I've been meaning to write a review for Edo for quite some time. I needed a trim desperately, and Edo took me in that day! When I arrived I was ready to chop all of my hair off, even though I had been trying for the last year to grow it out. They set me up with Sante, and I told her my story of how I am sick of my hair and I want it gone. She suggested that she cut the front a little short than the back so it wouldn't bother me as much, and it would help towards growing it out. Usually when I get my hair done at places they rarely even really listen to what I am saying, but Sante totally understood where I was coming from. I am already due for another trim, so I will be calling to make a appointment with Sante at Edo.

Pros: Very Friendly Staff

Cons: Kind of expensive, but it's SF, everything is expensive

I went to Edo knowing that I wanted a new hairstyle, but nothing too over-the-top. I got there early, and while I waited on the couch, I flipped through some of the many magazines they had, getting inspired. It was raining outside, but it was just so pleasant inside Edo, cozy, soft and spacious, with the pleasant hum of stylists working and checking in with their clients. A sweet girl washed my hair - very relaxing experience, with lots of great aromas. Then my stylist, Jayne, and I talked about what I wanted for my new hairstyle. She looked at the pictures I had picked out and was instantly on the same page. She got to work, and before I knew it, I had a great new haircut, that I love (with just the balance I was looking for between modern and yet still classically pretty). I get compliments on my hair now all the time. Jayne gave me some bumble and bumble samples and showed me how to make the most out of my new style (which was great, because I hate it when you like your hair at the salon, but you can't get it to look the same way on your own at home!) I left that evening very happy, relaxed, loving my hair, and pretty much charmed by Edo! I highly recommend getting your hair done here!

Pros: warm atmosphere, great style

i just wanted to start off by saying that this is the first time i've ever written on one of these sites, but i was browsing around and decided it was high time that i write about my amazing stylist. her name is rosette and she works at edo, which is a super cute salon located in the lower haight. i've been seeing rosette for about a year and i have to say, that everytime she cuts my hair, people actually stop me on the street and ask me who does it. back when i first went in to see her, i had long wavy hair which she has gradually cut into this amazing stylish bob. (which is not the easiest thing to do if you have hair like mine which is thick and unruly.) i absolutely love it! rosette has been cutting hair for years and really knows what she's doing. she cuts with confidence and makes you feel completely at ease. i've referred all of my friends to her and she's made them all look fabulous. so, if you're looking for a new stylist in the city, go to edo and visit rosette. you won't be disappointed!

Pros: ambience, lighting, service, cleanliness

Cons: none

first of all, let me say that i hate to write a negative review about anyplace. i work in restaurants and know all too well how damaging bad press/word of mouth can be, but, frankly, i'm pi**ed off. i went to edo for the first time a couple of weeks ago. i hadn't had a hair-cut in way too long, and knowing that it's often difficult for a stylist to figure out what you're looking for when what you've got currently doesn't really resemble it, i brought pictures. pictures of myself with the haircut i wanted. i talked it over with my stylist, we seemed to agree, and i sat back and relaxed. i was a little nervous that so much of the haircut took place with my back to the mirror, but feeling confident in our discussion and in the fact that i had brought pictures, i didn't worry about it. at the end of the cut, i was spun back around to find a haircut that was much shorter, generally uglier, and very different from the one i had requested. i was dismayed, but more or less prepared to let it go - hair grows after all - until the stylist who had just butchered me chattily quipped, "i never thought this hairstyle would come back in. it's just so... weird 80's!" grrrr..... it's been a couple of weeks now, and my hair is growing back. thanks to some aggressive re-trimming on my part and that of my girlfriend it doesn't even look that bad anymore, but it is certainly still nowhere near what i was looking for. and remember, people, it's not like i brought in pictures of brad pitt and was mad that i didn't look like him when i left. these were photos of ME, and from several angles, no less. bottom line: i'm not going back. i wouldn't suggest you do either, unless you already know someone there you like. bad experience at edo. thanks for nothing.

I was a customer of Edo for years I had one great stylist after another and each would leave. The last stylist I had of course suddenly left and when I tried to ask where she had gone they would not tell me. Instead they pushed me into a discounted cut with another stylist, I agreed and boy do I regret it. Not only did I get an awful out dated cut I now have to pay for another one. No deal there. I only hope someone can tell me where my last stylist, Amber is so she can fix my hair.

Pros: sometimes have good stylists

Cons: good stylists leave

After having my hair completely hacked off a few years ago by a salon trainee, i've been fairly apprehensive to seek salons for hair-related services. However, after deciding that i wanted to get some modern, long, side-swept bangs, i researched salons in the area and chose Edo. What a fantastic salon! The cut took about ten minutes, my bangs look EXACTLY how i wanted them to, and Sarah was super sweet, and a top-notch choice in stylists. Edo is a great choice, you'll be in great hands, they're not mega pricey, and they're in the Haight/Ashbury!

Pros: Prices, Fast Booking, Friendly Staff

I have been a loyal client at Edo for about 5 years now and can honestly say I love the place. First thing, all the stylists do an amazing job each with their own flare. I have seen Kate, Josh, and more recently Roxy. I believe I have been to others as well but I don't remember names. I am very picky and dont want some trendy or boring hairstyle. I love to change it up and Roxy just gave me the nicest shade of red I think I have ever had. Second, the art is so much fun to look at and the energy of the place is always booming with laughter and good music. No snooty attitudes, just a really fun place to get fashion forward hair. Thanks edo.

Pros: great art and style

Cons: none
