Cool!
by ldhinch
I am spoiled living in San Francisco with the little shops I tend to take for granted. Last weekend, I finally came across a record store that allowed me to trade in my CDs I'm bored with, and walk out with credit to buy more stuff in the future. Cool and highly recommended. So much better than the overpriced book stores, and so on.
Last of the Independents?
by zoesfbay
I don't know if Amoeba is an independent record store, small chain or something else but it feels very non-corporate and has a great election whether it's used out of print Jazz or the most esoteric contemporary stuff.
A single-cell, sonic haven boasting massive inventory, in-store concerts and a brainiac staff.

In Short
Born from a bowling alley, this music lover's haven houses tens of thousands of recordings--pop, jazz, lounge and indie releases, along with meaty selections from virtually every other genre known to man. Shoppers can trade in the albums they don't like for cash or a handsome store credit, depending on the condition of the returns. Vinyl, videos and DVDs line the shelves as well.
CD Valhalla!
by canaryofdeath
I came to this record store after hearing much hype and going to the Hollywood location. It did indeed live up to the hype as I found a rare cd that is almost impossible to find (even on the internet). The prices here are also ace! Aside from all the trendloving humanoids that clutter it up. This place rightfully deserves the name "CD Valhalla". Amoeba is the only good record shop left! I just want to give a big farfenoogin to Tower, Virgin, and the Wherehouse! You moneygrubbing basteeds!!!!! Alleviate the stress on your wallet people and shop at Amoeba!!!
- Pros: Line was short, Excellent selection, Prices were killer
- Cons: , Hippies everywhere
The Best Music Store EVER!
by lord_humongous
Amoeba is the best music store I have ever seen. They have the greatest selection of used CDs anywhere. You can find almost anything here. And if you can't, come back in a week and it will be there.
The only problem is that their used DVDs are a bit pricey. You may as well buy a new DVD if the used are so high priced.
- Pros: Huge selection
The Best

I have shopped for records on four continents and have never NEVER found a better selection or value than at Amoeba.
- Pros: Selection, Prices, Free Parking
helluva store
by mister_monkey
if it's rare, out-of-print or too indie to imagine, then it'll be at amoeba. while theirelectronicasection and staff seem bewildered and are not well-versed in that genre, this is more than made up for when you begin the great exploration. if you have time, say hi to tom, in the buying section -- he's one of amoeba's best hidden secrets.
- Pros: great location, selection unbeatable, prices are better
- Cons: some staff rude, some staff stuckup, homeless begging

Amoeba = Avalanche of Music!
by mojopin
Amoeba is absolutely the best place to whet your musical appetite. From the latest in music to golden oldies, if you can't find it here, chances are, you can't find it anywhere!
- Pros: Great Staff, Lots & lots of music!
- Cons: New cd's can be $$$
Great quality, diverse selection
by Leah2001
My husband and I recently bought 28 cd's there, about 18 of them were used. I was a skeptical about the quality and was pleasantly surprised to find the cd's were in mint condition. Seriously, it looked like they had been opened but never played. And you can't beat their prices. Their staff is very knowledgable, and their computer system is very well updated to let you know how many copies are available and where they are located. Furthermore, you can give them just the smallest amount of information and they can find what you're looking for. Great experience and I would go back anytime.
