The place is nice and clean. The staff are friendly. The music is good plus there are a lot of information there.
Where history and music are one
by DougS123
I've been the venue for a couple concerts. Each time I really enjoyed attending. I like the fact you can feel close to the performers no matter where you stand. Plus, you have your pick of a number of vantage points, whether on the floor or on the balcony. Since the place has pictures of past performers all over, I could get a sense of the historical relevance of The Fillmore as a music venue. I'm looking forward to next time I go.
- Pros: Historical, personal
Staff make guests feel like children
by maureenp
The staff micro-managed the guests, constantly saying, "you can't stand there/please move to the side/etc." I have never felt like such a child! Even if the directions were in the interest of safety/fire safety and making sure people can get drinks, there must be a better way to ensure this than hounding guests and contstantly reprimanding us for standing too long by the bar, talking to another guest in the wrong place, and so on. If they could have they would have put hats on us and made us sit in the corner for time-out. l It really put a damper on our overall experience at the Fillmore.
P.S. Maybe the Fillmore should pay more attention to all the guests smoking the grass in the venue than guests standing for too long at the bar!
- Pros: Draws great musicians
- Cons: Rude babysitters
good food, crowed -no seats, unfriendly workers

I went to Tesla last night and they rocked, but they did not give out posters which was not fair. Ithought every event gave out posters?
- Pros: good groups
- Cons: bad service
Historic venue ruined by craptastic security thugs, bad sound, & coasting on past greatness
by jschmoelio
Yes, great bands play at the Fillmore because of its history. However, there's nothing great about it other than the bands. You can't hear the performances because the ceilings are so high and they don't have adequate sound baffling. Drinks are sky high and teeny tiny. But the worst thing about the Fillmore are the ex and future convicts who 'run' security. They're rude, shamelessly flirt with women (making them uncomfortable), and most importantly, will brutally attack a man for little or no reason. It's disgusting. Do they break up fights? Usually no, they'll let guys yell and shove each other until someone is actually hurt or on the floor. They will START a fight, however, and team up on anyone unlucky enough to have come to the show alone. I yelled something supportive to a performer recently and he responded favorably. Next thing I knew three security thugs had yoked me around the neck and were dragging me out. I'm disabled and told them so but they didn't care. I just filed assault charges with SF's least finest (aka SFPD) who didn't seem to care, but I've read many reviews about how jerky the security is. Never believed it til now. I'm going to pursue those charges against the Fillmore security. They have no business hiring people like that and no right letting them assault sober customers without cause. Do yourself a favor and stay away from that place until they drastically change their security policies, which currently seem to allow criminal behavior from those who should be protecting the audience, not assaulting members of it.
- Pros: Some times its the only place to a certain great music act
- Cons: The security are thugs. NEVER go alone whether man or woman

First show I've been to in a while and my first time to The Fillmore. We had a good time. The band was great (but maybe a little loud). But you know what they say, "If it's too loud. You're too old!" Lol - guess I'm getting a bit older. The crowd was good and the security/servers/bartenders were nice enough. One criticism besides the volume, is that it was pretty expensive to drink. Would I go back? Yeah, probably if the right ticket came around.
- Pros: Good Show, Intimate venue
- Cons: Expensive food and drinks.
Security people are terrible!
by smaron
Good God! Where in the world did they hire the security guys from? From the street? They look like the mob and act like the mob. There was this big stupid,drunk/high guy in the crowd who was rubbing the girls around him and despite my multiple complaints to the "security" they didn't do anything!
One of them was actually drinking! I couldn't believe it! He put the glass down and said he was gonna come to remove him, which of course he never did. The other one said: I don't see him doing that!
Maybe they didn't want to go to him because
he was one of them, or he was big and they were scared.
Needless to say my friend and I had to move to another section to stay away. I am not going back to this place.
- Pros: bands
- Cons: security, parking
OK performers, stupid bouncers
by jimimansf
I agree with the previous reviews regarding sound quality. The drinks are too expensive. The place is too crowded. Worst of all, the obnoxious bouncers. They just yell at peopleand push them around for no reason but disappear if there is real help needed.
Place is whack
by lshifflett
Not reccomended for any music fans. The room is too big, the sound is terrible. The booking agent clearly doesn't care about music and only books flavor-of-the-month acts that will sell a lot of tickets. Worse by far are the staff who are rude, uppity, incompetent and seem to think their job as bounces or ushers at this "storied" auditorium is the equivalent of a MENSA membership. Newsflash: you're a glorified ticket taker. The guy making you a milkshake at McDonald's doesn't cop an attitude so neither should you
- Pros: None
- Cons: Name it...
It's just okay.....
by jeffhenderson
this is a cool place for a big dance...but when you're going to see a concert, it can get pretty loud in there....the sound is not the greatest, so bring some ear-plugs!!
