Awesome Sushi! Fresh! Worth your $!

by grizzlala at Citysearch

I have been reading all of these reviews and sadly, I think half of these people just don't know what they are talking about. I go to Fuku's at least once every 2 weeks. Never ever had bad fish! Service might be slow sometime, but the food quality makes up for it. The sushi chef is very funny, polite and absolute genius! Would go there again! If you want Omakase, sit at the sushi bar for best selections!!

  • Pros: good fish.
  • Cons: In Japan town..

How dreadful was the food and service?

by eflyer22 at Citysearch

How dreadful was the food and service? Let me enumerate the ways...

First of all, we went here the day after Thanksgiving, and apparently everyone else in San Francisco were fed-up of turkey too since Japantown was really packed that day.

Only this restaurant didn't have a line in front of the door for people trying to get in. That should have been a warning spot in bright neon lights for us, right?

The waitress decided to give our appetizers at the end of the meal - and didn't remove it from the bill even though we sent it back because frankly, we were finished eating by that time. She promptly forgot that we ordered an extra cup of rice. We had to ask for this 2 times. The sushi and sashimi were incredibly expensive for the 4 day old quality.

You get the picture. Don't ever go there!

ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE SERVICE

by honestcritic18 at Citysearch

my first time at a sushi place in sf and i must say, what a bad choice on my part. this place had ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE SERVICE! there were two of us, and we ordered $30 + worth of food already, then our friends came to accompany us BEFORE the food was even served. once we got our order, the waitress said that we HAD to order another roll because there was a $7 minimum per person. i take it the waitress didn't know that 4 times 7 was 28. anways, after we had that situation cleared, the waitress along with every other person working there could not take their eyes off of our table. more like a stare. quite unhospitable. we ended up tipping anways and the person who looked like the owner seemed overly thrilled and actually smiled at us. THE SERVICE IS POSTIVELY HORRIBLE! I WILL NEVER RETURN AND ADVISE OTHERS.

  • Cons: employees (except for the busboy) and service!!!

Keanu!!

by dmenkes at Citysearch

I used to live in the area and would frequent this cute little bar in the Japantown Restaurant Mall fairly often. The sushi chefs are very nice and once you get to know them, really go out of their way to make you feel welcome. Their fish is of excellent quality, though it would be nice to have a little more variety from time to time. There are pictures of Keanu Reeves plastered everywhere, as it's one of his favorite sushi bars. It's a bit on the pricey side, but you get what you pay for. Afterwards, it's fun to walk across to the crepe place and get your nutella fix!

Extremely fresh

by blkestin at Citysearch

We have been to Fuku twice now. Both times, we sat at the sushi bar and were extremely impressed by the quality of the food and the speediness of the delivery of it. The rolls are excellent and if you ask the sushi chef what is fresh and good that night she/he will be glad to recommend something. Yes - there is a female sushi-chef, something we had never seen before - and we have eaten at a lot of sushi restaurants. Finally, the vibe here is very low-key and relaxing. All and all, an excellent experience.

  • Pros: Extremely fresh fish, daily specials, reasonable prices
  • Cons: Small space, so may require a brief wait

Eat at the counter...

by heidster at Citysearch

This is a cozy place where the seafood is very fresh. Sit at the counter and watch Chef Nobu work his magic and maybe even serve up some items not on the menu. Service is so-so. The waitresses seemed to forget what we asked for just as soon as we asked for it. Food is a little on the pricey side but overall, well worth it, especially when fed by Chef Nobu.

  • Pros: Fresh seafood
  • Cons: Below/average service

Japanese Style

by soy at Citysearch

I like this restaunt. Reminds me of Japan. This place is comfortable and has a same type food as Izakaya in Japan.

Place to have a good time over small plates and sake.

I recommed to go there on slow nights. It is very private.

  • Pros: Chawanmushi, Yakitori, atomosphere
  • Cons: , Price

Ok...

by goodwillstacy at Citysearch

My husband and I were walking around and saw this restaurant.. I was hopeful because it was pretty crowded (although it is small), but once we were seated and got our drinks, it took at least 15 minutes to have our order taken. My sushi arrived and it was good, but nothing incredible- not enough to make me visit again. My husband is not fan of sushi, so he ordered teriyaki beef which came AFTER I was done with my meal. Even though the staff was not making strides to provide good service, a lady was hovering over the tables while everyone was eating as if to say "hurry up," which we did not appreciate. The check took 20 minutes, and when it finally came, $70 just seemed outrageous.

I am new to the city, but I'm sure there are better places than this!

  • Pros: fish decent
  • Cons: , slow service, too expensive

Is there a "C" in the name?

by ginainsf at Citysearch

Horrible service. 9 of us were seated in the private room. It took 20 minutes to get our drinks, after having to ask them to take our drink order. After 55 minutes our appetizers, after an hour and 15 minutes we were brought the "Chef's Special Sushi" we were not told a price, nor allowed to select the sushi. We were quite surprised when the bill arrived and the sushi for only 7 people was $175 for 2 platters. And the $175 did not include miso soup nor appetizers, nor tea! The 2 people who had teriyaki were served cold entrees which were delivered 15 minutes before the 7 other starving members of the party. A waste of money, don't go!

  • Pros: private room
  • Cons: understaffed, unfair pricing
