I have been studying with David Nelson at Yoga Garden for about 3 years. I have been studying mostly Iyengar yoga on and off for 15 years. I've seen lots of teachers and David Nelson is one of the best. David is energetic, precise and articulate. He brings great depth of knowledge to both the asanas and the philosophy of yoga. He generally conducts a brisk class that does not get bogged down in too much talking. His pacing is excellent and he works hard to carry themes across multiple classes - not an easy task in the drop-in format. I have taken a few classes here and there with other teachers at Yoga Garden and have never had a disappointing experience. The school is clean and inviting and run efficiently. And it's always nice to walk through the small garden.

I got hooked on Iyengar yoga when I was pregnant with my 2nd child. Marisa's pre-natal yoga changed my life! The post-natal and toddler/parent classes are terrific too, as are all the regular classes I've attended. The space is clean and tranquil, and the teachers are extremely knowledgeable and attentive. You'll love the entry and little garden you walk through on the way to class. It's a special place in the heart of the city.

There's lots available in San Francisco fortunately, but I've settled on Yoga Garden because (1) terrific teachers - very well trained in Iyengar Yoga, give individual attention to all students equally, (2) Iyengar is great for people like me that come with injuries from other methods and can work thru them and resolve them here (3) great space - walk thru a garden to a nice welcoming space - retreat from the city environment (4) classes available at 7am - I go before I go to the office, so I take that time for myself first thing in the day!

yoga garden's teachers are well trained and attentive to the specific needs of their students. the school is fenced in off a busy street, surrounded by lovely plants, making it a quiet, serene place to come connect with your body...i take an intro and intermediate class with Priya...she has a great way of really helping you home in on your areas in need of focus. check it out! p.s. (you CAN usually find parking about 1.5 blocks south of Yoga Garden on Divisadero, just before Castro morphs into Divisadero)

I first visited Yoga Garden on Divisadero as an expectant mother. Their prenatal and postnatal teachers are fabulous - very knowledgeable and caring. Class sizes are typically small, ensuring that each student receives lots of individual attention.
Pros: Individual attention, Clean/calm environmnt, No-fuss atmosphere

I like to take classes here because I feel the teachers are well informed. I find the mature and friendly style of the other students in class to be a big plus.
Pros: smaller classes, personal instruction

The Yoga Garden's Yoga 101 has been the most sublime experience I've had on the floor of a former recording studio. I was suspicious when my girlfriend informed me I was signed up for yoga classes for the entire month of January. Didn't I have to where tights? And what about the looking deep within ourselves for inner peace? Words which would come from the mouth of some 22 yr old community college, granola eating hippy. Aha, but thankfully I was very wrong. My instructor (Octavia, shes great!) had recently returned from one of Indias temples of Yoga where she had spent three months taking instructiuon directly from man who had developed the style used at Yoga Gardens. The class was a hour and a half and invigorating, stimulating, relaxing all at once. The Yoga 'high' I was on for the rest of the day was completly addictive! Highly reccomended.
Pros: Inexpensive, Great Instructors, Variety of Classes
