Great hair!!
by cecilb07 at Citysearch
Let me preface the experience to give you an idea of my situation: I am a six foot tall blonde, with unruly long hair. My blonde locks reach down to the center of my back, and my biggest problem was the constant abundance of knots and split ends, which would find there way in to my styled straight hair due to a rather blunt cut from a previous hairdresser at another salon as well as the intense heat of my hair straightener. The health and appearance of my hair is extremely important because of my job as a model, meaning it is necessary to keep my hair within the constraints of the industry.
My actual experience at Notorious: I went into the salon a few weeks ago wanting a trim and touch up on my layers. I had the honor of having my hair cut by owner Dianne Sommerfeld. Her years of experience and expertise showed as she skillfully layered and trimmed the dead ends of my hair without compromising its length. Upon leaving the salon my hair felt infinitely healthier and I was able to run my hands through my hair, snarl free. She also recommended a heat protective product by Redken, which has already made a vast improvement the health of my hair. Thanks Dianne!!
Just yesterday I returned to the salon because I had a desperate want to add a few extra highlights to my naturally highlighted blonde hair. I wanted that end of summer glow to compliment my sun tanned skin, however I have never had any sort of color, highlights, or dye in my hair. Feeling slightly nervous about having my virgin hair highlighted I decided to do it anyways. I had stylist Adrienne do the highlighting on my hair. Her vivacious personality and color expertise made me feel really comfortable with the whole experience. Adrienne's experience with color really showed as she matched the new highlights to the color of my natural highlights flawlessly. The color frames my face perfectly, bringing out my summer tan nicely. Props to Adrienne, thanks!

Best Haircut Ever
by BrodySellars at Citysearch
This was the best haircut I have ever recieved since moving to San Francisco in '99. Ten years later I finally got an INCREDIBLE haircut from CJ, the manager of this salon. I am definitely coming back again. She was very professional and helped me find a look that really worked. I found my new stylist and salon!
great job!

Miguel is great. I have curly hair which is difficult to cut, & Miguel did exactly what I wanted. He spent a lot of time on me and made me feel like a VIP customer. I love my hair!
If trendy is what you want, stay away from here!!!

If you want a trendy style this is NOT the place to go! I came in expecting to get one thing and came out with something i didn't want - at a very steep price. First, we tried to bleach the color out of my hair - didn't lift. Not stylist's fault. I have black hair and wanted to go back to something not so stark. We all know that NOTHING can cover over black hair, but she tried putting a red rinse over it. Nice. Now i have RED ROOTS and black hair. The cut took the cake though. I told her to cut it ALL OFF - we are talking extremely short spiky hair or a short bob. She wouldn't listen. She took off about 5" then layered it and it looked sort of ok in the shop. Later she disclosed that she felt too short of hair would be like a little old lady cut. WHAT? Frankly, I think she couldn't do the cut. I plan on coming back to attempt to retrieve all of at least part of the $140(!!!) I was charged. I ended up at Oxenrose today. Got a cut by Brian - EXCELLENT. I highly recommend him. This place however, leave it alone.
Miquel Rocks!!!

Miguel is the best. I have difficult stiff blond hair and he is the only person in years that can make it look great without scissor marks. Also, even though the salon is in the Castro and I am a conservative finance guy, I am very comfortable and like the people in the salon.
- Pros: master of hair, mine is difficult
- Cons: more expensive than i normally do, but worth it
very offensive-make sure you have the right "type" of hair
by heatheredmonds at Citysearch
I just called this salon because I was excited about getting my first haircut and I spoke with someone briefly that told me that he "does not deal with my type of hair" but that I could call back tomorrow to see if Chris does. I felt that to be rude and offensive. He was not polite in the least. I, being a woman of color felt very discriminated against and from your website I thought I had found an open, fun and inviting atmosphere but I guess not. I will never attempt to contact this place again for any services.
I'm amazed

I recently visited a good friend of mine who lives in San Francisco and who has been trying to get me to cut my hair for several years now. The last few times I visited her she raved about her new salon, Notorious For Hair. Since it was her birthday I finally relented and allowed her to take me in to have my hair cut. My hair is very thick, curly, and goes down past the middle of my back. I will admit, the ends where fried and scraggly. I also have a beard, on on a bad day my girlfriend has been known to tell me I look like Grizzley Adams! Anyway, I went in intending to get only the bare minimum of dead ends trimmed. My stylist was Miguel. I let him talk and somewhere along the line I ended up agreeing to a bit more than I had originally intended. And, I am actually very happy with the results! It is not super short, and I don't know how he did it. When I used to get my hair cut I would always just have it buzzed really short, otherwise it was just a mop, too hard to deal with. I hate the buzz look, but I never realized there was an alternative which is why I have worn my hair long and in a ponytail for the last 9 years. I am very happy with my new hair! I wish I had done this years ago! As an added bonus before I left Miquel trimmed my beard and shaped it. Of course, after that I somehow got talked into going next door to Donna and having my brows waxed. I have never had anything like that done before, but it really wasn't bad at all. Donna was very quick and professional (but I drew the line at the brows!). I am not really the kind of person who pays much attention to my looks, but when I got home I had to look in the mirror again.. And my girlfriend totally digs my new look! So thanks Miquel! I visit the city every few months. I will be back, and next time my girlfriend wants to come too!
Wow! I am sooooo happy to have found this place!!!! You will be too!!!

I am new to the area, and I found this salon walking down the street. They advertise a first time cut for $35, which caught my eye. I almost missed it, the salon is located above Wells Fargo, but I am glad I decided to venture up the steps! My stylist was very friendly and made me feel instantly at home. I can be pretty picky when it comes to my appearance, and being new to the area I was a bit concerned as to how to find a stylist that would live up to my standards. Usually I have to go through 5 or 6 different stylist's/salon's before I find one that I can settle on. Finding Adrienne was litke winning the Super Lotto!
Right from the get go I could tell she knew her stuff. I had been wearing my hair in long layers, but I really wanted a change. It is always a bit scary cutting off all your hair, but I trusted Adrienne right from the start so I asked her to cut my hair into a trendy A Line Bob. I still wanted some lenght to frame my face, but I was ready for something a bit more fashionable. The cut was Awesome!!! Adrienne also recommended a great styling product and showed me how to apply it to keep that 'just out of the salon' look going eveyday. She didn't have time to color my hair that day, but I saw a women at one of the other chairs having color done and it came out really nice so I already have an appointment to come back and have Adrienne color my hair. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND NOTORIOUS FOR HAIR!!!"
- Pros: Friendly and Knowledgeable staff. Great cut & color!!! Top Salon Products.
Miguel My Bell

Called into Notorious for Hair and was sitting in the chair having my hair cut within 10 minutes. Miguel is the newby over at Notorious for Hair but is in no way an amateur, he has been making flashy hair-do's for the who's who in San Francisco for years. I had an absolute mess of a haircut but Miguel was kind, took into consideration what I wanted and needed, and turned me into a young Clark Kent! I walked into the shop a mess and left looking amazing. I honestly almost caused a car crash as I was leaving because someone was staring at me so hard...Go see Miguel!
