me and a friend of mine came to visit the city recently and decided to check out badlands. first off, the $3 cover was great and surprising. most clubs start at cover as much as $10. we got in and it was packed, but it was good vibes all around. everyone was having a great time. there were drink specials at $4.00/4.50 which are practically half off from reg. drinks. the music videos added more fun to the dance floor. what i love is that the music wasn't all TECHNO. i also like that there was a coat check, but be prepared to pay. its only $2 though. i'd come back again!
Pros: good music, attentive bartenders, cool music videos, close to escape to NY pizza!
Cons: small, communal bathroom STALLS

Unless you like bubbly giddy twinks and queens, this isn't the place for you. I'm pretty mellow, and like to go out and have a drink or two...but I usually leave this place annoyed and p issed off. People bounce into you, slur S's at you and spill drinks down your back. I'm not saying that doesn't happen elsewhere, but it seems to happen with more frequency here. Beware of poorly shaped eyebrow pluckers!
Pros: Loud music, big crowd
Cons: Plucked eyebrows, stereotypical music, plastic crowd with pretentious attitude

This is a good place to go dance if that's exactly what you're looking for with the music videos in the background, that can at times be dated. Not so social inside, but definitely hot with the dancing. Weekends can get a bit over-crowded, where the dancing can become dancing in place.

This place used to be a hot leather bar in the Castro of San Francisco. Now it has been reduced to another "Twink Bar". But FRET NOT! It still has charm. Like side Trak in chicago, this bar is an evolutionary process and the crowd can be a little catchy. It's reputation is good and the staff is impeccable in attention to detail. This place is always busy!
Pros: Videos, videos and more videos
Cons: The videos are a little dated for the average consumer...

I love Badlands!!! I have never had a bad time there. I don't think it's possible. Cute bartenders, fun Top 40 music, nonstop dancing. Love it!
Pros: Fun dance music
Cons: can get so crowded you can't dance

After reading all these other reviews I had to say something. Everytime I go there I have a blast. If you don't then its not your scene. I love the music is top 40. I love reading everyone complain about the crowd, and the drinks, and the music. I go there with intentions of having a great time and always do. I don't trip off of everyone else there. I also think the bartenders are great and as a man of color I have never had any issues with the staff. So please if you want to fall into the negative about this place, and read the reviews of some bitter queens go ahead. that just leaves more room for people who want to enjoy themselves
Pros: great music, friendly staff, hot guys
Cons: can get crowded

I went Christmas night with a few of my friends who were totally bummed from the holidays and all, and this place was CRAZY! The bartenders were really nice and cool and the dance floor and music were excellent!
Pros: Inexpensive $2 Cover, Drinks were great, Atmosphere was A+

This bar is the bar to go to if you can't afford a trip to West Hollywood. If you enjoy a vacuous clueless clientele, brainless bulimic bartenders. and weak tiny cocktails this is definitely THE place to go! Just remember to bring extra cash to hand to the snotty doorman for the cover.
Pros: nice decor
Cons: , clone music, attitude central

I am really embarassed that we live in the "Gay Mecca" and the Castro has nothing better to offer than this excuse for a "dance bar". The line outside is just to make it look busier to passerby's and the cover is ridiculous. The drinks are fine, as are "most" of the crowd, if you don't mind seeing the same crowd over & over. Yes, the crowd is generally rude, and the music is bubble-gum pop with videos. It is really embarassing.
Pros: Location, easy hook up
Cons: music, videos, arbitrary line
