A fashionable outdoor patio and an above-average kitchen make this a Castro brunch favorite.
New Owners... Fabulous food, great prices, best food in the Castro
by robbiemakowka
Luna has new owners now and the food and service has really changed for the better.
We were very pleasantly surprised how much everything has improved.
We ate outside on the covered patio in the garden. The food was wonderful and reasonably priced with good service.
For dinner my partner had crab salad and steamed mussels, I ordered Onion soup and stuffed fish.
With two glasses of Champaign the bill was under $50. Everything was wonderful and they now take credit cards.
We are definitely going back soon.
- Pros: Food Quality and Preparation
- Cons: Parking can be difficult
Bad Bervice, Cash only on a Sunny Sunday Afternoon
by jlfinch1
Living in the neighborhood for 3 years, hadn't been to Luna in almost 2 of them due to a bad dinner expereince. Giving it another chance was a huge mistake. During a non-busy sunday after 1:30PM, the food took almost 30 minutes to get to the table, burned and cold, and then they don't take credit cards. The manager explained that they can't take credit during a busy weekend....that seems quite odd. So I had to leave my party and go to the ATM across the street in order to pay. Very unhappy, and won't go again. Shame on me for the 2nd time mistake. Stay away, there are better places to go in Castro like Catch or Tangerine!
- Pros: Outdoor seating
- Cons: Food & service
Fresh from a can!
by bluefooter
Still bummed that we wasted an opportunity to eat at any number of San Franciscos amazing eateries on this place. While it had a great patio, and the staff was somewhat friendly, the food was absolutely horrible. Everything tasted like it came out of a can. The food was juvenile in execution, everything was extremely literal. a hunk of salmon, next to a hunk of whipped plain potatoes with a pile of boiled spinach slopped onto the plate. The salmon was not farm fresh, it tasted as though it came from a frozen costco bag. The potatoes were instant (we saw the boxes while waiting in line for the bathroom) and the appetizer we ordered, tomato steaks with mozarella, bazil and olive oil...came straight from a can! they are proudly stacked up on the kitchen shelf when you walk in. my mates ordered the ravioli which was doused in marinara from a jar, and the albacore which came with a mushy risotto. honestly...don't eat here. this place might have potential but give it a couple of years to iron out the kinks...i dont know how they get away with charging what they do for what they're serving...my guess, due to the non existant crowd on a saturday night...is that they wont get away with it for much longer.
- Pros: patio? service? hard pressed here
- Cons: pretty much everything else.
Average at best
by pinkytuscadero
The food is just plain ok. Its not bad and not good. I always want to love this place because of the back yard and location and i have been at least 4 times. Always the same result the food is just really not great and pricey for what you get. The service was ok but it can go either way. I wont waste my money there again.
IT'S GOOD way overrated but good
by DoggDoggieDog
Wow--my expectations were high after reading all the rave reviews. Maybe that is why I was disappointed. I am still paying off the dinner, via credit cards. The food was good but not hot.
best brunch spot
by sushisnob7
The outdoor (heated) patio can't be beat. The brunch menu is pretty varied and I love the options. Plus you can get a mimose or bellini big enough to put your head down in after you're done!!
- Pros: outside, good eats
- Cons: parking, sometimes waiting for a table
If you don't mind the loooong wait for the food
by gourmetfrancais
I had dinner there on a recent Monday night and can only say that I won't go back. As much as the waiters were doing their best, the kitchen was not following. It took EXACTLY one hour and 40 minutes for our food to arrive on our table after we ordered it. By that time, my friend had lost patience and sent her plate back. The salmon I had was good, but the bitter taste of the wait made the experience a very forgettable one. There were few patrons, and all were waiting and waiting, so even if they had one less cook in the kitchen, service should have been faster.
Terrible Service and just OK food
by tbackhaus
Just went there on a Tuesday night and the service was beyond TERRIBLE!!! Food was served cold, drink orders were forgotten, and it took them several tries to get our bill correct. In the end, we meant to leave a small tip (no tip was what we should have done), but we think they screwed up our payment - because we paid partly in cash and partly by credit card. We ended up (we think) overpaying because even though the servers deserved it, we thought it would be too rude to leave nothing as a tip. I would NOT recommend this place. There are much better restaurants in the neighborhood, and would definitely not go back to Luna again.
- Pros: Location, Ample Seating
- Cons: Terrible, Service, Period
Best for Brunch

My friends just brought me here and I have to say that I'm in love witht his place. Huge mimosas, fantastic service, great atmosphere and cute waiters! I'll definitely be going back again. The patio is such a nice place to sit and eat.
