Great dive for chatting
by erik67
I was in San Francisco to enjoy the city and meet a friend who lives near this bar and found it to be a great place to have a conversation. What really sold me on the bar was the excellent jukebox--we're talking 80s punk/pop. Also, the bartenders are extremely attentive and very polite, not what I expected in this softly lit watering hole. The only downside is there's a pool table that's a little too close to the bar, so you gotta do some acrobatics every few minutes to allow players enough elbow room for a clear shot.
- Pros: Jukebox & Strong drinks
- Cons: Pool table placement
A funky Potrero Hill hangout with a standout jukebox and free popcorn.

In Short
This is a top-notch neighborhood bar. It's sort of unkempt, but in a cozy way. Sadie's three rooms are cluttered with old, overstuffed armchairs (some repaired lovingly with duct tape), two pool tables, an excellent jukebox (from Nina Simone to The Clash) and a small library for literary drinkers. There's also a bizarre art selection--including a blow-up sex doll astride a trapeze--donated by regulars and staff throughout the years.
The New Sadies Rocks!

So much better without the clutter, the cold, and the chalk..Be there for the change, it will definately payout big on some Friday night where that Bartender is funny and cute as hell...without the Donuts.
- Pros: no thugs, Hiding places, strong Drinks
- Cons: going home, that loud guy
Improving Sadie's
by gorillawhip
I think Sadie's is improving under the 'NEW' management. Great new juke-box selections (3 songs for a buck is a bummer), new pool tables (.75 cents a game, instead of .50) and strong drinks -- not outrageous changes! I always thought some of the bartenders were aloof and inattentive.
Chalky Good Times & $1 PBR are gone
by cellerdweller
I once reviwed this place for it being a sweet spot for brave souls willing to head to the edge of Potrero Hill, perhaps on their way to/from Thee Parkside or Bottom of The Hill.
New owners have gutted the atmosphere and destroyed the funky vibe. Not a lotta foot traffic in the neighborhood, and the place is quieter than ever. No longer home of Thursday Bingo ( try the Knockout) & the famous $1 PBR is also gone. The place is basically a casual corner bar with two pool tables, with a new 'tude factor.
- Pros: Empty, Funky
- Cons: Empty, Funky
comfortable, not trendy

So where can you go when you just want to relax, do a little bit of people watching, play a little pool, doodle on the wall with a piece of chalk or play a game of checkers with another regular? There's a little dive on the corner of Mariposa and Potrero where the crowds are mostly local and down to earth, there's the occassional festive event (last week was dedicated to Elvis) and the bartenders are friendly and fun. Tired of sitting on your couch but not up to swinging with the hipsters? Try a little neighborhood action. It'll feel good.
- Pros: strong drinks, great jukebox, free popcorn
- Cons: street parking
