Skip's is a no-frills place, complete with a jukebox and pool table. The walls of this neighborhood haunt feature photos of Hollywood icons and sports greats. Every night of the week (except Tuesday), there's live music, mostly rhythm and blues acts--Wednesdays are live night. On weekdays (4pm-6pm), beers and well cocktails are served for reduced prices.

powerful drinks, local blues

This place is a little hidden gem on Cortland out in Bernal Heights. It's a great place to get close to some blues jams performed by locals and local artists. I like the down-home, unpretentious atmosphere. The drinks are reasonably priced, and often quite strong... I once had a Long Island that just about paralyzed half my body.
