Love this place!
by MikeMo
I go twice a month and will continue to do so. We had a server named Lindsay and she was great. The food is always cooked to perfection and the environment is a lot of fun.
- Pros: Good Service, good food, good times
- Cons: a little pricey
Good tapas, friendly staff
by coog78
This tapas restaurant is cozy and comfortable. We went on a Sunday evening and the crowd seemed mellow. The meatballs were tasty, spanish tortilla average. The sangria was decent, but nothing special. I really enjoyed the empanadillas special, filled with goat cheese and ahi tuna. The grilled asparagus was actually my favorite dish. Waitress was super friendly and was honest in admitting she was a vegeterian and unable to recommend a meat dish when we asked. It's really an inexpensive restaurant and overall an enjoyable experience.
- Pros: Asparagus, staff
Food is good, but very noisy...
by kakinotane
The food is good compare to other Tapas places in San Francisco. Also, customers and waitress look very friendly, so no college kids parties going on.
However, the music was very loud and people have to speak loud. I could not hear what my friend was saying. Other groups had senior people, I wonder if they were conforterble.
Best Lamb Tapas Ever! Great Staff, food, decor, ambiance, and value!
by MatthewTsou
i loved this place. it's intimate and crowded, so i recommend getting reservations ahead of time, but the professional service, quality of food, and value can not be beat. i was a sole diner who went to get a free sangria with my greenzebra coupon. they didn't have room for me at the bar, so i put my name down for a table. the hostess or manager or owner then promptly got me a chair to sit down on while i was waiting. the atmosphere was great. the decor included spanish paintings of dali and goya if i am not mistaken.
but on to the PIECE de RESISTANCE! the seared lamb slices!!!! i'm not a big lamb eater or fan, but of all the lamb i've ever had in my life (just a few times), these were the best, hands down. the lamb slices were seared perfectly such that you could still see the properly uncooked portions of the slices in the middle, a ruddy pink-to redish color while the borders were clearly slightly browned from the searing. and beneath the lamb slices were onions or something like onions which the waiter tried to explain to me were not onions but were similar to it and were specially prepared by sauteeing them under the lamb itself while it was cooking to absorb the flavoring of the meat. then, when you put the lamb slice in your mouth, you must savor the moment: pay attention to the moistness of the meat, not dry at all; delicate, not chewy or rough, and you can taste the full flavor of the lamb and sauteeing.
- Pros: superb customer service, ambience, sangria, and lamb slices!
- Cons: crowded, busy, small venue, not good for LARGE parties but 6-8 is okay
Tapas for the platter!
by lisahazarika
The weekend scene in this restaurant is of a cozy place with dim lights, filled with people and tapas on every table. This small restaurant takes reservations only till 7pm on weekends and after that you are free to walk in. We were promptly seated and as any spanish place dictates, the sangria followed. My partner wasn?t very happy with it, but nevertheless, it wasn?t bad either.
The menu had a variety of new dishes which were included recently and a faire of vegetarian and meat/seafood orders. However there was almost no choice in the chicken department. So we settled for the ?Spanish tortilla? which were awesome. Also had some eggplant with cheese filling topped with sesame-tomato jam which was not my favourite. The Empanadillas of Manchego was nice, but had a sharp goat cheese after taste. The sauteed shrimp in garlic and olive oil were the usual that you can find in any other tapas place.
So probably I wouldn?t be heading back to this location again, as there are better tapas places around. However you never know which get together takes me there again! Overall a place you can try if you are in the area, but can be missed if you know of a better tapas restaurant around!
Won't be coming here again

Have you ever gone to a restaurant and in the middle of dinner and an interesting conversation, the server asks you to move to another table allegedly because there is a large party and there is no where else to put them, so you move then realize that actually there are a ton of tables in the back?
Me neither until last Thursday at Ramblas.
Amazing Vegetarian Tapas!
by jujudiva
My boyfriend and I rarely go out for tapas, because usually they can be very meat and seafood heavy. We were impressed by the amount of veg options. I think there were more veg tapas than not. Each one was a taste sensation. The wild mushrooms were just the way my senora made them when I did a homestay in Spain! I have been trying to make them like that for years since, but have never been able to. Ramblas got it perfect, with just the right amount of pimenton (smoked paprika). The sangria isn't top-shelf, but it's tasty and at $22 per pitcher it serves three people easily. The place gets really packed. We made a reservation for 8 PM and because of missed bus connections didn't get there until 8:30. The hostess was still very gracious and got us seated right away. Our waitress (the girl with the wave tattoos) was very friendly and accomodating. I definitely reccommend this place for a great night out. Regarding the size of the tapas, if you're in a large group, they're probably going to seem small, but for two people, 4 tapas (plus the great fresh bread that comes first) are the perfect amount for a nice meal.
- Pros: Excellent food, friendly staff
- Cons: Don't sit at the table next to the busboy station (worst seat in the house)
Food here has suddenly become VERY TASTY!
by enjoythemoon
We live in the neighborhood and had all but written off this restaurant due to the inconsistent quality of the food. But when we took a chance here late one night in December 2006, the meal was surprisingly superb all around: tasty tortilla de patatas with a zesty aioli, rich morcilla sausage, etc. We returned again this evening, this time with friends, and the food was once again top notch! Today the highlights were: punchy gambas al ajillo, patatas fritas (crunchy golden perfection!), serrano ham with fig crostini, and churros con chocolate for dessert. If Ramblas has disappointed you in the past, I encourage you to give it another chance!
not up to the hype

The food was fine but the tapas were tiny and priced the same as an entree somewhere else. The sangria tasted more like grape juice than wine
Good Sangria, Thirty Bear Beer, Tasty Tapas
by tf2001
I really like this place - the tapas are reasonable priced and decent sized. The sangria is pretty good and they serve my husband's favorite beer from Thirsty Bear. Service has always been helpful and attentive, even when we just sat at the bar with a pitcher of beer and an order of olives.
