Cancun is the best!

by Hogan

But you have to know what to order. Stick to the veggie burrito (no sour cream) and the pechuga suiza and you can't go wrong.

Burrito Blunder

by jeffgolf1

I have heard so much about this place from friends that live in or visit San Francisco. I wasn't expecting to be blown away, but I was expecting something better than Chipotle?but I was wrong. I decided to go with the vegetarian burrito because meat is only a small percentage of the ingredients in a burrito. I figured if the veggie burrito was good then they were all pretty good. Then I bit into it and thought it tasted like a burrito I would make at home. It was full of sour cream which is a good thing, but when it overwhelms the burrito it becomes ridiculous. The tortilla was grilled so it was like eating a rolled tostada. I want a tortilla with some elasticity! It was pretty much a rolled up tostada with a lettuce crunch that tasted like sour cream.

What you'd expect for the price

by ms_new

This is an average-tasting taqueria for the area. It's not the best but it's not the worst either. The chips are subpar, something you buy from Costco. On the other hand, the grilled chicken and the chorizo are quite tasty, though the chorizo often is too salty. Overall, for the price, it's not bad and acceptable if you're looking to get a large quantity of food for a small price.

  • Pros: chorizo (when they make it crispy), grilled chicken
  • Cons: parking is difficult, eating area isn't welcoming, sometimes food is too salty, chips can be better

Traditional taqueria fare made from fresh ingredients highlights this Bay Area chain.

by Contributor

In Short
Each location of this mini-chain caters to an eclectic crowd ranging from Latino families to pierced and tattoed artists. The lively atmosphere is accentuated by Mexico's greatest hits pumping through the sound system. The menu includes burritos, tacos, enchiladas and tamales. The ingredients range from well-seasoned pollo and carne asadas to carnitas, al pastor and a wide array of salsas.

great food for the price

by bluesbabe

I have been to cancun several times for their fresh burritos and aguas frescas. The food is great for the price, but the music is way too loud. You will have to scream your order several times over the noise for them to take your order, and usually what they give you is not what you asked for. They are swift and curteous in making the order right, but then if you decide to eat in, you will have to wear noise cancellation headphones to get through the meal without hearing loss. The jukebox plays so loud the music is distorted, and as good as the food is, I will only recommend pick up for takeout.

  • Pros: good eats
  • Cons: what?

Yuck! Don't believe the hype!

by shashainca

Folks let me tell you, this is not good mexican food! I ordered extra guacamole in my burrito. What I got was a bland, watery sauce. The burrito was cold, the salsa didnt taste fresh and I cant for the life of me understand why people love this place. You can get a cheap, good burrito elsewhere! It's been my experience from talking to people who like this place that they have never had a good, fresh burrito before. I would call this food edible only if you are drunk or have no taste buds.

  • Pros: None
  • Cons: Bad food

Don't get the veggie burrito

by Chryss

I was very disappointed in Taqueria Cancun's salsa and veggie burrito. Who puts oregano in salsa??? The flavor of the oregano was too strong and it ruined what otherwise would be good beans, rice, and guacomole.

  • Pros: Inexpensive
  • Cons: Parking Sucks

Could be a serious & inexpensive solvent

by alasnik

I ordered a Burrito Mojado -- wet burrito.

Looks great. Smells great. Massively huge. And only cost about $4 something.

Tastes okay, but is hot enough to practically burn my sinuses. Could be used as an industrial solvent.

The meat seems tender, and it looks like there's some rice and other stuff in here, but I can't really tell.

Excuse me while I grab myself yet another glass of milk.

  • Pros: Cheap, Pretty fast, HUGE portion!
  • Cons: HOT, *too* hot!, Lousy parking, did I note: too hot?

late night or anytime.

by Emanangan

I've been all times during the day, sober and otherwise... this place doesn't boast but it should about their succulent carne asada which taste like fresh-grilled meat (some other's don't). TC doesn't try to mask lack of quality with overburdened mexican flavours, and even the veggie burrito has fresh slices of avocado. one of the best reasons why people have taqueria five nights a week in the mission-- quesadilla suiza is the best fix!

Gimungous Burritos

by basilica

Where else in America can you get a vegetarian burrito the size of your head (really!) with all the fixins for $3.20? Taqueria Cancun in the Mission District is a favorite of ex-hippie locals during the day and drunk locals in the wee hours of the morning, as it is open until around 4.AM (if memory serves). The food is cheap, the decor is simple, and the burritos (especially the vegetarian one) are incredible. Get a cup of fresh horchata, too and listen to banta on the jukebox.
