We moved from SF to Oakland and the movers completely ruined almost every piece of furniture we had. They packed the furniture in the truck without using padding so everything arrived with deep scratches and cuts in the wood. When we brought this to the attention of the movers, they told us we could file a claim with the manager. This is where the real fun began...let's see, first the manager was on holiday for a month and couldn't return our calls. Next our file was misplaced and they had no record of our move. Following that we were asked to submit photos of the damaged items and await the arrival of an assessor who would determine if Emerald was liable. Guess what...one year later and no assessor, no returned calls, nadda. This company is so piss-poor in not only delivering your furniture but in delivering customer service, you are a fool to give them your business

Emerald Moving & Storage I have used emerald a number of time over the years and each time have had a great experience. My last move was only 2 weeks ago, booking the move was a pleasure the girl in the office....had a warm friendly irish accent....and was a delight to speak with. She gave me a great estimate and told me of all charges.....she even advised me that sometimes move can go over the estimate. I didnt mind i was glad to hear honesty!!! I got a confirmation email on the day then a call 2 days in advance to re-confirm!! Excellent!! The 3 guys showed up on time, egar to work and work they did! Even thing was packed up loaded, unloaded and placed in the new home all with in the estimated time. I found this company as a whole a pleasure to deal with from beginning with the friendly office staff ending with the hard working guys. I would highly recommend these guys!!!

I found Emerald Moving and Storage through Citysearch, and used both services. Although the move-out (into their storage vault) was professionally and quickly done, I had problems with the billing department for the storage portion. On more than one occasion, my credit card was charged twice for the same month. Since I was overseas, I didn't catch it right away. On other occasions, I was charged a late payment fee, even though the payments were on credit card autopay. When contacted, Emerald tried to blame my credit card but my bank was able to prove that I was thousands of dollars away from my limit on each occasion that the cc payment had mysteriously "failed." When they moved me back in, the guys were very late (at $100+/hr) and said that they had been calling me for directions but with no answer. They did not however call the new number that I had specifically contacted the office on at least 2 occasions to provide, but rather the old number on the move-out slip from almost 2 years ago, which had been disconnected. (Duh!) When they finally arrived, the guys (who were quite nice at least) apologized because some plates had gotten broken. They said they didn't know when it had happened, but clearly implied that Emerald was responsible. I called the office, was sent a claim form, filled it out, and finally heard back from Emerald (after a month and a half) that since I had signed the insurance waiver, I was entitled to nothing. "You sign things without reading them?" was the comment of the claims handler. I wasn't aware that I had a choice since on both occasions, the movers had just said, "Sign," and at $100+ / hr, I wasn't about to dilly-dally. I was told I could photograph and weigh the broken plates, send in the documentation, and if I was lucky, they would reimburse me $0.60/lb., approximately $3 for $40 in damage. $40 is not worth the aggravation, and neither is Emerald.

Pros: really nice hardworking kids that actually did the move

Cons: right hand not knowing what the left is doing, administrative snafus, lack of accountability

The original estimate for my apartment was approx. 3 hours, which later turned into a 7 hour move! Considering this was a small one bedroom move, I was as patient as possible considering the cost was the highest one bedroom move I have ever epxerienced....and I have moved often. In addition, the customer service was horrible! The office manager has a horrific, unhelpful attitude. I do NOT recommend Emerald.

I am extremly happy to write this review about this compan. I can't say enough about the experience that I just had with this company. I called their office and hired a team of three guys, who showed up promptly at 8:30 a.m. on a Saturday.This was the time given by the friendly staff.The movers came proceeded to clear out my two-bedroom apartment in less than two hours. They were phenomenally efficient while at the same time being equally careful with my stuff. They were all very friendly and had a great attitude all day, even as they struggled mightily to get my gigantic mattress a large Armoire, up a very tight, 37-stair stairwell at my new house. I was Very impressive. the rates were very competative compared with the competition.This included a large truck. Towards the end of the move we decided to store some of our items.The movers took our items to their storage facility in San francisco. The next time you move, give these guys a call; you'll be glad you did.

Really good storage rates. I've used a lot of other storage companies and have had the best experience Emerald. I used Emerald for self storage and car storage. Very easy and professional administration process at their office-- took about 5 minutes of my time. Decent sized vaults; I put my furniture in, locked the vault, and they did all the forklifting, etc. Contrary to the other review, I'd no problem with car storage. Overall, the company is very easy to work with.

Pros: Good rates and no hastle

the storage is miles and miles out of the city and they are incredibly unaccommodating for pick up. I've wasted lots of time and energy with this company.

I used emerald moving last month, and after trying about 3 or 4 other moving companies I found Emerald to be the most reliable and professional. They've a good staff in the office, very decent rates (for a licenced company they're very low), and there aren't any extra charges for stairs, gas, etc. Conveniently, they also sell moving boxes and other supplies, which cuts down on the hassle in preparing to move. My 5ft upright piano didn't suffer a scratch when they maneuvered along my tricky corridor and down some stairs-- and thank God for it's been in my family for years. I definitely, definitely reccommend Emerald-- if you're looking for a professional, experienced, and reasonable company, this is the one.

Pros: They sell packing supplies, NO extra charges, competitive rates, professional

Cons: None that I can think of

I left my car in storage for 4 months and the battery was completely dead when I went to pick it up. I specifically asked, and it is their policy to disconnect the battery. BUT THEY DIDN'T DO IT! I had my personal belongings in my car and my glass vase was broken when I picked up my car. They charged me for the full months fee's but they guy didn't know how to use the credit card machine to give me a refund! I would not go back to them again.

I called Emerald moving after a reccomendation from my real estate lady. They came highly reffered from 3 of my friends that had used them before. They gave me a time in the morning.Called the day before to make sure I had everything ready.Showed up on time. We had a rather awkward move. A piano had to go up two flights of stairs. I had to have my sofa hoisted thru my window.(They moved out the former owner SOFA hoist also) Great guys,worked very fast and efficent.GREAT office staff I have reccomended to my friends.USE THEM
