It felt like I was in a sauna.... Each time I've gone to the Royal Oak it felt as if I was in a sauna. I mean you can feel the heat and steam as soon as you walk in. Other than that, the place is decent. Funny decor. Plants everywhere and burgundy velour seat covers, if I remember correctly. This place is good to bring a few of your friends and sit around and people watch and talk. It's not too loud, and there are a lot of seats, if you get there in time to snag some. Bartenders are pretty nice, but drinks are a little questionable and not cheap either.

It's not that bad, but there are tons of other places in the city.

Interesting ambiance, bad drinks. Come here to be entertained by the plants and the hodgepodge decor (looks like a musty basement which is kind of fun) and not for the drinks. Bartenders are snotty and need some lessons on how to treat people and mix drinks. Definitely a bit of a meat market so if that's what you're looking for, save your money and avoid the mixed drinks -- order beer here.

go for the plants not the service. Nice scenery with the plants and antique furniture, but the bartenders are non attentive and sometimes even rude. They don't make very good mixed drinks, and seem amature at best. Save your time and money and keep walking half a block in either direction and there are alot better bars.

Very cool atmosphere. This bar has the best atmosphere, perfect for meeting someone on a friday or saturday night, or just a good neighborhood bar. the owners are awesome and the bartenders are friendly. Great decor, and a good set of people...definitely recomend it.

Nice place, poor service. I was there once with a few friends, and thought it had a really cool decor. Then I went back, and the bartender was totally rude. We asked if there was Mojito and she rolled her eyes and said impatiently that they don't serve that. Then I asked for Apple Martini, and got another "no." It' ok that you don't serve certain drinks, but don't serve up an attitude!

Best of Polk. Not a bad place this. I would say that although I like the decor there is some deterioration to upholstery that needs attention, but the service is good and prompt, the staff is knowledgible and good at the occaisonal mixed drinks.

It attracts a mainly young crowd and has a bit of a reputation as a pick up joint, the good thing being that there is usally a good even mix of sexes. Not too loud on thanlkfully only one tv, out of the way and with a peculiar green casts. A haven for us sports haters.

Change in Scenery. An interesting mix of greenery and antiquated decor make for a fun change of scenery. If youre lucky enough to grab a table, youll be rewarded by hours-on-end of entertaining boy-meets-girl interactions. If youre with a group, the meet market aspect of the bar shouldnt affect you too muchunless, of course, thats what youre looking for.
