have been going here for 20 years

I don't know where these people come off knocking the U-Lee. Is it perfect? No. Is it a great, family operated, modest, affordable Chinese restaurant with a loyal clientele who return week after week, year after year? Yes. Love this place.

Hole-in-the-wall destination for classic Chinese fare serves large portions at low prices and wins raves for its potstickers.

Sweet deal

by dernachtwind

I have no idea what the negative reviewer is talking about because this is some of the best Chinese food I've had in a long time. I live two blocks away so I eat here more than at my own place. The potstickers are huge, tasty and extremely filling. Another reliable dish is the Mongolian beef, which is nice and spicy. The people are always friendly and it is so nice to have a hot glass of tea waiting for me when I get in to pick up my order! I take my visiting friends here, and they all love it. The naysayers can go waste a lot of money elsewhere; this is definitely a great local spot.

  • Pros: Cheap, really tasty and filling
  • Cons: its a hole in the wall so you come for the food and the friendly service; no cons

Worst Chinese

by 58a

We recently moved here from NYC to the Russian Hill community. We were excited to order from U-Lee after walking by and reading citysearch reviews. HOWEVER, this place is AWEFUL - potstickers were CLUMPED together and came with no sauce - the worst! The shrimp lobster sauce wasn't lobster sauce and had only a few pieces of shrimp. The beef fried rice WAS a disgrace! Tiny, tiny bits of what seemed to be beef (who knows). Didn't think this was possible in SF to eat bad chinese! This could honestly take the number one spot to worst take out experience we've ever had!

Potstickers

by marrkoss

Three words: potstickers! Okay that was only one word, but that is the only word you need. Try U-lee. Please don't listen to the 1 bad review. Potstickers are HUGE and GOOD. The rest of the food is above average, but honestly you aren't going to U-lee for the rest of the food. Also the waitstaff is very friendly and is a small group (a family I think). It does not take long to become a "regular." You will enjoy this place.

Hits the spot.

by elvey

The food and service are great, so I call them often for take-out.

You can find their menu online at tinyurlDOTcom/fxrzh (Annoyingly, URLs are marked 'inappropriate'...)

Everything is fresh and good, but not fancy.

  • Pros: Excellent Value
  • Cons: Parking impossible.

Underwhelmed

by my_2_cents

Were they having an off night when I went? The food was mediocre across the board: potstickers, soup, and entree. We got the potstickers because everyone raved about them. They were huge, yes, but not great. Hot and sour soup varies from place to place, but I do expect the titular elements. It was sour but had no heat and had overcooked peas that almost seemed misplaced. The squid? Octopus? in it was overcooked as well. The Mongolian beef had an okay flavor, but none of the heat that I was hoping for. Im getting used to food not being as spicy as Id like, so this isnt a crime. The rice had an odd texture. Ive never been so disappointed with every element of a meal until last week. We got the entire meal for $20, so at least we didnt shell out big bucks to be underwhelmed.

  • Pros: Quick service
  • Cons: Food, ambiance, tiny

Chinese Comfort Food

by celsior

U-Lee resembles a traditional Chinese home cooking. Sure, the ambience isn't what you call "romantic" but it feels just like grandma's house. The food is very yummy and down-to earth. The portion is huge. The price is very reasonable. The waiter/waitress are super friendly. We had a great time chit-chat with the staff. They were surprised that (1) my gf and I walked from Financial District to U-Lee and (2) we know their restaurant but we are from LA. One drawback is the lack of parking spaces.

Be sure to order pot-sticker, and walnut/amond shrimp. They are to die for.

  • Pros: Food, Price, Portion
  • Cons: Parking Spaces, Decor

award winner!!!

by king_sushi

They did acually win an award for best potstickers, because they are the best I have ever had anywhere! First off they are huge! (i'll never want theose scrony P-tickers ever again!)

the rest of their dishes are on par with these delicious potstickers. I always order 2 orders to go, becuase they are so darn good!..even cold the next day!! really! Mongolian beef, deluxe mixed verg., brocolli chicken, all are very good! and thes do give you large portions. very friendly family, Perter the young owner alwasy remembers my name. (now how cool is that?)

Highly recommend them for take out, or eating there if you are in the neighborhood.

The best there is

by djablons

I used to live nearby U-Lee's, and before long this restaurant became more like my refrigerator than my favorite restaurant. The staff is very friendly, even when harried, and the food is fantastic. The pot stickers and chicken wonton soup are the best anywhere, and you can't go wrong with the Mongolian beef, spicy tofu, general tso's, or any of the chow mein's.

  • Pros: Great food, good prices, friendly staff
