Horrible service!
by alwzout at Citysearch
Watch out diners! The waiter added on extra portions of appitizers, (not informing us of course.) And when we questioned the check, he said "well you ate it!" then stormed off and slammed the check book on my chair. The manager was worse. We let him know that the waiter insisted we try the appitizers, although some of our group are vegetarians. In this place patrons are NOT first. The food was not even close to good. The banana boat desert was bitter, pork chop was dry, lobster was dry. At the end our 40.00 appitizers turned out to be 200.00, and the manager only took off 50.00. If you insist on going here, please watch your check!
- Pros: many available tables
- Cons: lousy service, dishonest with check amount.

Very SNOBBY service!!!!
Even worse if you don't order drinks or spend much on drinks when your there.
Man, the service was horrible!! I hope the managment reads this and either fires their waiters now and replace the or give them customer service classes!!!!
- Pros: Ambiance
- Cons: Service, prices, and isn't traditional Vietnamese food
Cool vibe, crummy food

Very cool lounge to grab a drink and possibly an appetizer - good vibe, very relaxing atmosphere. The signature drinks are interesting but I wouldn't order any of those we tried - the signature martini tasted a lot like wheatgrass from a health food store. Their signature spring rolls were good, but slightly overfried. Dinner itself was unfortunate - the special shrimp in the sugar/chili sauce was a meager portion of only 4 small shrimp and they were tough and had a very strong fish taste - nearly inedible. The bass in miso-honey glaze was extremely dry and nearly lacking flavor all together. Both arrived luke warm at best. I was insulted to pay over $20 an entree for food that was truly unappetizing and would never return for a meal. Lastly, the service here was what I could only describe as "cranky".
- Pros: Atmosphere
- Cons: Food, service, value
Never been so insulted at a restaurant!

My girlfriend and I went to Ana Mandara for dinner. When I went to restroom the waiter ask my girlfriend why she was with a guy like me"! The worst thing was that my GF didn't tell me until we were gone and I tipped this jerk 20%! He is lucky that I did not get him fired. I did talk to the manger and he basically said tough, nice management. I will NEVER Recommend this place to any of my friends or Corporate clients, and for that matter I will go out of my way to suggest against it! I highly suggest NOT going to this sub-pair restaurant. San Francisco has too many great restaurant to give this one any time or money for terrible service and "OK" food.
- Pros: None
- Cons: Service, Food, Management
Ana Mandara: AVOID
by gypsyrob at Citysearch
During Dine About Town, I brought a date to the highly rated Ana Mandara. Our waiter made two appearances during the meal, perhaps unimpressed by our less than $50 wine order. I ordered the restaurant week prix-fixe, my date ordered off the menu. While eating the entrees (I've had better food at Chinese buffets), we heard the waiter mentioning specials he hadn't bothered to mention to us. After our entrees were cleared, a dessert arrived for me, but my date was never given a dessert menu and neither of us were invited to order after dinner drinks. Plus we were not even given silverware for dessert. Why this restaurant enjoys a high ranking is beyond me. Perhaps the proximity to Fisherman's Wharf attracts diners unaccustomed to the fine dining San Francisco offers. I would suggest if you find yourself at Ana Mandara, hail a cab and go someplace else.
- Pros: Decor
- Cons: , Bland food, Way overpriced
