One of my favorites
by fashionistagirl at Citysearch
I've been here several times and have never been disappointed. I'd consider the food more of a "fusion" menu, and all of it is great. The service is also fantastic (there is one waiter in particular whose name escapes me who will always recommend the night's top dishes on the menu- take his advice! he is completley correct). And, if you go upstairs after dinner for drinks or dessert, you can often catch some very good live music. Great date spot, very good food, and a fun but not overly trendy ambience. Highly recommended.
- Pros: Food, service, ambience
- Cons: a little overpriced
Come for the ambiance and bring a fat wallet
by piccolinasf at Citysearch
Being that I am Vietnamese, my boyfriend took me to Ana Madera for a romantic evening and to savor vietnamese-fusion cuisine. I was very impressed by the architecturally artful and beautiful dining area and the attentive waitstaff. However I really did not find much vietnamese-ish cuisine on their menu. In fact I would call it over-priced-french-fusion cuisine! The food was above average but if you are looking for a nice romantic spot this is truly the place.
- Pros: romantic ambiance
- Cons: expensive
Fine Vietnamese Dining and Lounging
by jo_martini at Citysearch
I'm always on CitySearch for restaurant/lounge suggestions. I've never written a review before, but can't deny that Ana Mandara and the Cham Lounge are absolutely worthy of one. I agree, the food is expensive, but remember you are also paying for the ambience, service, and menu selections. If it's not in your budget, please don't go.
The dishes are very tasty. I've dined there at least five times and appreciate the service. The cocktail selections are delightful. The lounge seating is inviting. It's such a cool and pretty place to be. The bartenders are attentive. The sommelier is knowledgeable and easy to talk to. The bartender, Ryan, is the best!
Great Date Spot
by melmel76 at Citysearch
My boyfriend and I went here for our anniversary. The ambiance, food, and service are top-notch and we would definitely come back again. It's the perfect place to go on a date because you could always walk over to Ghirardelli Square right after.
Not Worth the Moolah
by krisslye at Citysearch
While the ambiance was exotic and the service efficient, I have to give Ana Mandara a poor rating as the food was terrible and grossly overpriced. The meats did not taste fresh and the flavors and textures were not thought out. Complete tourist trap.
- Pros: ambiance
- Cons: price, food
Wonderful Setting For All Occasions
by thursdayroberts at Citysearch
Our group of 5 were thrilled with our experience at Ana Mandara. We enjoyed fabulous, fresh and unusual cocktails in the upstairs bar before dinner. Sharing the appetizers, entrees and desserts inspired our appreciation while the magnificaent interior created a romantic setting. Our waitor was quite informed and perfectly attentive. We all enjoyed the wine selection and left feeling uplifted, happy and absolutely satisfied. We all intend to return and will recommend to friends. Thanks!
- Pros: Service, Food and drink, Atmosphere
Perfect evening
by blaksocks at Citysearch
Entering the resteraunt from a busy day at the office and a struggle fighting the traffic, i was immediately relaxed by the beautiful setting of a dreamy vietnamese courtyard at dusk. Live jazz music came from the upstairs balcony and bar area. My party and I were treated like royalty by the excellent service staff. Our waiter was charming, sophisticated and knowledgeable about every aspect of the fine menu. I fully recommend this oasis of elegance.
- Pros: Service, Atmosphere, Cuisine
- Cons: Location
our recent dinner
by tvn at Citysearch
We were at Ana Mandara for dinner during one of my recent trip to San Francisco. We were early for our reservation, but got seated promptly. The ambience was nice and the service was great. The food was too expensive though. We had soft-shelled crab for appetizer, which costed $16 and consisted of one crab cut in half. The garlic noodle came without the Chinese chives or bean sprouts. My beef tenderloin was too salty. We had the mango spring rolls for desserts, which was good. Other than that, it was generally an OK experience. I'm not sure if I would want to come back again.
- Pros: nice ambience, great service
- Cons: horrible parking, expensive food
Dinner review
by larrywg at Citysearch
The food tastes good, but is very overpriced. None of the items on the menu is specialty item, but they are charging a lot for it. Their "crepes" and "noodles" can be purchased from any asian markets for less than a dollar or two. Ambience is excellent, and the service is not bad. They got one of our orders wrong, but it was corrected very quickly.
LA Style with SF food!
by cyberdoggie at Citysearch
There aren't many concept restaurants done up in LA style in SF. This is one of them. It's opulent. Other than Gary Danko, one of the only good reasons to head to the Wharf to eat. An inspired cocktail list, and healthy wine list make this a good choice for foodies and winos alike! It's on the expensive side, but given the presentation and the taste, it's well worth it. Lobster ravioli? Wow. Calamari with crushed peanuts? Yum! Duck breast with banana blossom? Outstanding. I'm getting hungry again just writing about it! Go there!
