great restaurant/experience!

by brog

from when we first stopped by the day before to book a reservation, to requesting a particular table the following day, and then to finally arrive and be treated with care and special attention made this an excellent dining experience. the prix fix menu is quite a value and the selection is varied. the quality of the food and preparation were excellent. a great experience overall. recommended.

  • Pros: very service-oriented staff; great ambience; good food

FANTASTIC!

by luna5

As a regular at this charming little bistro for years, I think it is only fair to write a review. The food in this restaurant is pure perfection and a real visit to the country roads of France. You should try their cheese tart, goat salad, salmon tartare, or snails bourguignone to start. Then, for the main course, the cassoulet, duck magret, beef short ribs, or halibut with aioli are absolutely delicious! To top it off, the sumptuous chocolate souffle, tarte tatin, or cream of nougat are to die for. Their wine list gives you the opportunity to try some outstanding rare finds and lots of choices. This restaurant can be busy on weekends, so try it on the weekdays when it's more relaxed. The wait staff is awesome -- professional and genuinely friendly. They go out of their way to make your dining experience the best, offering suggestions and really paying attention to you. Hyde Street Bistro is the perfect place for a truly satisfying meal with your special someone, your family, your business associates, or your friends. Check it out -- spend an evening with the team that really won the World Cup...

Not Worth the Wait!

by msasj

First of all, it took two hours or us to get our food. Secondly, the food was so average that it was a giant waste of time. The place was almost empty on a Saturday night. That should have told us something. I ordered a New York steak as did my wife. I might add the fattiest and smallest New York steak I have ever had. Mine in particular tasted like gas from the stove. I kept thinking to myself, "it took two hours for this?" The kicker was the steak came with French fries and they weren't even very good. I would avoid at all costs.

  • Pros: We got to leave
  • Cons: The food

Was it the wrong night??

by colafede

Went to Hyde Street Bistro for dinner on a sunday night while visiting SF over the week end. The restaurant was almost empty, which i did not expect. Was tempted to leave but then decided to try it. I had the specials for the day, the rabbit pate' and the seabass. The quality of the food was just average. The pate' was ok but whereas the seabass was tasteless, it sounded like a pre-cooked dish just re-heated before serving. The whole meal did cost approximately $50 dollars, including a glass of red wine. Overall, i think that this restaurant is way over priced. Nothwithstanding the poor quality of the food, the service was good and attentive.

  • Pros: Good service
  • Cons: Average food and ambience

Very nice experience

by patrickbad

I think this was one of the best meals I have had in the city. The service was lacking, but the food was really good. My bill for four people was around $250.00. I think it was worth it. I left feeling it was money well spent. The place was crowded ,but that was OK.

Best French Bistro in SF

by phworld@yahoo.com

This small bistro is fantastic. The beet salad was perfect- not too tart or saucy. I tried their cassoulet and pork loin medallions which was astounding. This was one of the best meals in french cuisine that I've ever tasted. The only issue is parking which is virtually non-existent in this neighborhood.

Awesome French restaurant

by arashbabaki

You definitely need reservation. They don't have a bar, but there is one one block down the street if you arrive early. Food is great. Wine was awesome. Service is nice and fast but they are very strict and not very friendly. expensive but worth it. try the snail.

  • Pros: food, wine

Great Food

by easygourmet

We finally visited this restaurant and met the owners, how nice and french they are. They added a new chef who is wonderful and has created some outstanding dishes. His specials are excellant and so delicious. We loved the scallops and duck! What a great addition to this romantic bistro. Our meal was plated so pretty which went right along with how delicious the meal was. The service was perfect too! I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone. And yes they do have a great wine list. Right on the cable car line so parking can be hard. A very charming and quaint place to bring anyone to. The food is 5 stars and we really enjoyed watching the new chef Keith. He was very charming and attentive to detail. We look forward to visiting this romantic bistro in the near future.

  • Pros: romantic and great food
  • Cons: parking hard

Sooooo Europe! Vive la France....

by elaatsch

Even though this place is only two houses away from where I live I don't go there often enough. Super friendly staff and delicious food is awaiting you! :-) You will listen to french "chansons", while you enjoy the most incredible french dishes you can imagine. My all over favorite are their duck dishes: "maigret de canard" and "confit de canard" and they will recommend the perfect matching wine with a charming french accent. Whenever I get homesick (I'm from Europe) that's the perfect therapy. ENJOY!

  • Pros: best place in the neighbourhood to enjoy french food and culture!!!
  • Cons: it's always hard to find parking in Nob Hill, so just walk or take he cable car :-)

Best cassoulet I have ever tasted!

by youngms56

This is one of our favorite restaurants in the city. It is small and intimate with a wonderful atmosphere. The wait staff is friendly and attentive. None of the stuffy attitude of some french restaurants. The food is delicious. Every dish that we have tried has been wonderful. My favorite is the cassoulet, which is to die for. Prices are reasonable here for the high quality food and experience that you will receive. This is a nice romantic spot for a special occasion with that special someone.
