What a mistake!

Edgardo Chacon basically massacred my hair. It took six months to grow it back and I had to spent additional $100 to have it fixed. Overly fake and unprofessional. Not recommended!
- Pros: great location
- Cons: untrained staff

Great Hair Care and Color
by SAfra100
I've been seeing my stylist, Misook, for over two years now. She's great. I come in for a touch up on "my paint job". The highlights and tints are always great. I receive compliments on my color and cut regularly from friends, family and strangers. I highly recommend them. Also, it's easy to get an appointment--which isn't always easy in this town on a Saturday, last minute, or even planning 5-6 weeks ahead.
- Pros: location
- Cons: a bit pricey, compared to other salons nearby
Best Salon and Spa for every reason, recommend to everybody!
by KikuMoshimoto
LISA FUKUDA-NGUYEN IS THE BEST COLORIST ON EARTH!!!! She intuitively knows exactly what you want, what will look best on you, what kind of routine will be most cost effective and fitting for you and your lifestyle, her expertise ranges from very funky to very natural and everything in between, she has an awesome personality and the best customer service I've ever experienced, she has great assistants who make sure your time there is as comfortable as possible, she works alongside of a great staff whom I have favorites I will also tell you about below. Needless to say from day 1 I am a lifetime client of Lisa's and hope she never quits!!! I swear you will be sooo pleased with her quality of work, prices and finished product... She's amazing! = )
While your are getting your hair done... while you are waiting, indulge yourself in a good gossip magazine, relaxing music, and a lovely manicure and pedicure! You will look so great with your new hair color and flawyless beutiful nails! I love and have grown attached to Tracy the best manicurist I've ever had. She has a great range of abilities too, and makes your nails look like works of art. Simply flawless...(and long lasting!)
And finally, refresh your new hair color... with a new hairstyle and cut! Nothing compliments your new color better than a new cut, or if your feeling bold, try a brand new style! Or just add bangs, trim ends, add layers, or go a little funky or modern. My favorite hairstylist is Amy Hasushi. I've brought in photos of the haircut I desired and she gave me exactly what I wanted, and then some! And I've also gave her very vague instructions such as "do what whatever you think will look good on me" and I loved what she did! I've had the same hairstyle ever since!
This is a great salon for everybody and I would recommend it to anybody. Great experience there every time, time after time. A+++++
Aweful! How would you like to pay $100 for a mens cut that took no more than $20 minutes?
by gcyber
I recently moved from Boston to San Francsico and am in need of a haircut. I looked up Citysearch and with all the buzz on here, I decided to give Maiden Lane a try. Boy, was it a mistake. I called up the salon and was randomly assigned a stylist. The stylist took no more than 20 minutes cutting my hair. After the cut, my hair looked no different than how it was when I first walked in. Maybe slightly shorter, but there was absolutely no change in style. I thought to myself, so much for an almost 5-rated salon on here. Then, I walked to the desk and found the cut had cost me a hundred dollars. A $100?! I couldnt beleive it. The receptionist whom took my appointment did not communicate this to me at all. I felt completely cheated. Not only was the cut unorginal, but it cost a $100 -- for a mens cut. I walked back to my office and told the story to my co-worker. The first thing my coworker told me is, "I didnt even notice you got a cut?"
Will definitely never going back there again.
- Pros: Nice and clean space.
- Cons: Overpriced and unorginal stylists
Ok but not worth the hype
by sparklethepom
I realized that after all the salons I tried in this city before finding my current one, I had not reviewed any. So, if you are in the market for a new salon, I thought I'd tell you my experience. I saw Nikas here when he was here and although he is allegedly the best in the city, um, he's not. My color was pretty good, but too monotone/no dimension, and it took 4 hours. My blowdry was not great, and it was expensive. I can't speak for the people there now, but the salon to me felt like more hype than substance and it actually seems like it used to be a doctor's or dentist's office with the way it was set up. If you are looking for fabulous hair, I'd go to Ron Pernell studio. Hugh McGuire is the best in the city for color.
- Pros: atmosphere
- Cons: nothing special about the color or blowdry - it was just ok

MARY AMEN - UNQUESTIONABLY BEST HAIR CUT EVER
by MEBROWN830
MARY AMEN, I absolutely love my new style. I haven't been doing much to it but a quick blowdry and can't believe how easy it is to maintain. The response I've gotten from co-workers and friends is overwhelming. I COULD NOT BE HAPPIER! This is, unquestionably, the best hair cut I've ever had, and you are so right about the way it changes the way I feel about myself. Thank you so very much for taking the time you did with me, and for the follow up email. Thanks again, MARY.
Friendliest, Warmest staff of any salon I've ever been to!!
by sammiep
After reading the review on the dry, snobby service I felt compelled to stop reading and start writing--my first review! Not sure what the whole situation was with that person, but I have been coming here for years and am a self-described salon & spa fiend. The people at the front desk are so genuinely warm and welcoming I can't imagine having a bad experience with them. They're also pretty funny and I always have nice little conversations with them when I'm checking in or out. I've bounced around with different stylists and have always been happy with my hair, my style isn't very complicated, though, so it's also pretty hard to mess up. I haven't run into a snobby stylist here, either, which is really lucky in a Union Square salon! Are you listening DiPietro Todd?
The Diamond Peels are out of this world! I love me some microdermabrasion, it leaves my skin so smooth and flawless and doesn't make me all red and irritated afterwards, I actually get an instant kind of glow after one. Every esthetician I've seen so far has been really knowledgable and super sweet, it's hard for me to commit to just one. I also like to book my appointments at the last minute. One person I have committed to, though, is Teri for the best pedicure EVER! The pedicure is crazy expensive ($60!) but I fork it over as often as I can. Thanks for always doing a flawless job, Teri!
A couple of things that are annoying, though:
You can't leave a tip on the credit card, only cash or an ATM card (I never use my ATM card and never carry cash--irritating!)
Add $5 to to your visit when you're planning a budget, there is a 'surcharge' to pass on the cost of some SF sick leave law onto the client instead of the owner coming up with it. I honestly don't even notice it anymore, but I've never heard of a salon doing this before and it just seems really tacky. Just raise prices then, you know?
All in all, though, I highly recommend this place, fabulous service, fabulous people. I'm hooked!
- Pros: friendly staff, awesome facials, and best pedicurist ever
- Cons: can't leave tips on a credit card, tacky surcharge on each visit
