Poor, apathetic customer service.
by kirklanddr at Citysearch
Very rude and apathetic service. I was with 2 friends, they got their entrees but the manager brought the wrong thing to me - I ordered a pizza, everyone at the table heard it. So he says, "Oh...okay. Sorry. It'll be a few minutes."
So we have that awkward situation where they have hot food, and I tell them to eat...eventually they start. Now I'm sitting near the oven, and I watch about 2 dozen pizzas come out. NONE comes to our table. We asked the manager and he keeps saying, "just a few minutes." After about 25 minutes, my pizza comes out. I asked him why he didn't put my order in front of all the others and he says, "Oh, they had their orders in already." "Yeah, but I ordered first!" So he says, "Uh-huh." Like, call someone who gives a s**t.
Now I've been in situations like this before, and I just expected them to take the lousy 10 bucks off of the menu. Did they? NO! They charged the full amount! Just pissed me off, no real apology, no effort to make the customer happy, and no offer of a free glass of wine, dessert, any of the things a decent restaurant would do.
EVERYTHING is excellent!

Great food, great prices, it's where the locals eat. Get there early (opens at 5). They don't take reservations but it's worth the wait.

Being a native it's difficult to write this.....but if the cafe fits. After a long week of teaching San Francisco's children this looked like the perfect place to dine. I saw a delicious looking meal served outside, so I decided to try it. When I asked the stiff waitress if I could have the same meal as was served to the lady outside, she informed me the lady was a "regular" customer, and she'd have to ask the chef if it was "possible." Once finally agreed upon I was delighted, but after sitting for 30 minutes waiting for a simple plate of eggs and sausage, while 7 other diners came in next to me and were served within 10 minutes of their arrival, I became "turned off." My dining companion kept saying that it must be some mistake, but when he asked the waitress about the progress of our brunch, she curtly said that she had no explanation! Apparently, since we were seated directly in front of the kitchen it hadn't even been started. Had she been kind and concerned about the mishap we certainly would have understood. Rather, she offered no concern or explanation for our situation. This is the worst I have ever been treated in a restaurant in San Francisco.
Stop by and be ignored

I stopped by one night (I live on Nob Hill) and had a seat outside at one of the tables. No greeting, menu or anything for 20 minutes. So I left.
Who needs this kind of nonsense?
Great neighborhood cafe

This restaurant was recommended by a hotel bellman; the first time I tried to visit, 8-ish Sunday evening, the line was out the door so I kept on walking. The next day I came back before the dinner rush (6-ish) and enjoyed a great meal. The Fedellini al Cecca is angel hair pasta with tomatoes and basil - a simple tasty dish with big chunks of ripe tomato, and get some cracked pepper on top. Also the gelato for dessert is a treat - it's served like a slice of cheesecake, try the mango - not too strong a flavor, with a buttery crust and topped with nuts and toasted coconut. I had this same meal twice and it was excellent both times. If you stop by at dinnertime, it'll be busy so be prepared to wait - and the cafe is tiny, so you may have to wait outside in the cold. The prices are very reasonable and the food is definitely worth it.
- Pros: Really good food

A great unpretentious spot with good prices and great food. The pizza is very tasty! If you can sit, it feels like eating in your own kitchen.
- Pros: food, location

Great place to eat for some ambiance and delicious food. I especially love their brunch menu. Not recommended for large parties due to limited seating.
- Pros: Ambience. Service

Cute ambience, mediocre food
by sfoody at Citysearch
I'm been to the restaurant many times. Whenever I go with to lunch with a North Beach Fixture and he tells the waitress "bring me whatever the chef wants", the food has been exceptional. When I go there without him and order from the menu, the food have been mediocre at best. Often, the foold is either too bland or too salty. So, maybe I just need to earn the "special customer status."
- Pros: cute ambience
- Cons: mediocre food
