Keep far, far away. This is one of the places where 1 star is too high. Terrible food and they take only cash. I did not know that, did not have any cash on me and these guys started yelling at me and grabbed my bicycle as collateral (for a measly $20).

I called 911, after the cops came I went to my ATM a block away, gave them their @##%$#%%# $20 and walked away.

If you want to be insulted and humiliated (after paying too much for absolutely rotten food) look no further!

Dig into tasty, richly flavored clay pot dishes at this Chinatown favorite.. In Short
Located on Grant Avenue, smack dab in the middle of Chinatown, the plain-Jane, two-story eatery is filled with both neighborhood denizens and savvy outsiders. As with most locals' hangouts in the neighborhood, the decor doesn't go much beyond the usual linoleum and Formica. The menu is a mile long, but the dishes prepared in clay pots--unglazed earthenware vessels--are the specialty here. The rich, savory clay-pot entrees come in two styles, with rice and without. For the former, a variety of ingredients--dried black mushrooms with chicken and sausage; pork ribs and black beans; pork and salted fish--are strewn over a bed of rice and then cooked.

This place is awful. I live in the neighborhood and have never really gone wrong with Chinese food in Chinatown. Until now that is. Enter Bow Hon: terrible food...service that makes you wonder who should be paying who...and, adding insult to injury, it is way overpriced.

To top it all off, they don't take credit cards. So, when I cleaned out my wallet and was a dollar shy of the (overpriced!) bill, the waitress just gave me a blank stare and grunted "Citibank is across the street". I pity the tourists who end up here and go away thinking this is what Chinese food in SF is all about. Truly abysmal.
