This place is the bomb! The food was DELICIOUS and the service was very friendly. The Jerked Chicken served with cumin rice and black beans was really good and the seasoning is unique and flavorful. And the fried plantains- soooo good. The red snapper and shrimp tostadas are considered a "tapas" item but they were definitely big enough to be a full meal. Huge portions of shrimp, snapper, lettuce, salsa and cheese cover crispy corn tortillas, very fresh taste with a bit of a kick. Our waiter was a total comedian, he had us laughing throughout our meal, and the owner was super friendly. This place isn't very noticeable from the street, but when you walk in, you feel like you've left the city. You walk through a narrow pathway that leads to a cute back patio decorated with Caribbean wall hangings and decore. There are tons of menu items to choose from, and breakfast is served all day. Food and beer prices are very reasonable, which is hard to come by in the city. It's a great place to kick back with some friends, enjoy a $3 Anchor Steam and chow down on generous portions of Caribbean style food at great prices.

Pros: Outdoor seating, generous portions, fun ambience

Cons: parking

I've been eating at Primo Patio Cafe now for about 2 years. The atmosphere is fun and relaxed and the service is helpful and friendly. However, the main reason I continue going back is that the food is absolutely phenomenal! Group that together with prices I would happily pay double! This place is a total find and is a must before or after baseball games. I would love to explore some of the other items on the menu but I can't stay away from the Grilled Lamb Steak, Grilled Jerked Chicken or the tasty homemade salsa that is always so fresh!

Pros: Fresh and tasty food always! Great home made desserts!

Cons: Hours - Need to stay open longer.

An amazing find near the ball park. The Carribean style food is delicious, generous, and reasonably priced. The wait staff is friendly and efficient and the owners work hard to make sure you enjoy your visit. I couldn't recommend it more.

Pros: Good food, good prices.

yuck, phooey, eew. could anything be worse then sweet meat, cold fries, and thousand island dressing and salsa on everything? i haven't found it. i ordered lunch and had to get a second one from somewhere else cause it was so bad.

Pros: so small you can miss it. i wish i did.

Cons: bad food, bad yappy owner, rude staff.

While I thought I was getting a great deal with the lamb pita I ordered with the paprika fries...the real bargain came later when I was violently sick to my stomach. Not sure if it was the unchilled sauce on a hot day or something else but I won't be going back.

Pros: back patio

Cons: food illness, improper food handling

Not a place to go for a nice sit-down dinner, but it is a place to go for a quick bite to eat. The food isn't fantastic, but it is not horrible either. The Jerk Chicken is about the best on the menu. The beef items were fairly tough. Chicken wings have good spices on the outside, but are really bland tasting concerning the meat. The rice is tasty. The price is inexpensive so for a cheap meal Primo Patio will do. Beacuse it is close to home, I can say that it is convenient and serves as an acceptable place to get some food when you need a meal in a pinch! The atmosphere is not romantic by any means, but it is suitable for fast food dining. Try to avoid ordering coffee - the automatic coffee pot opposite the cash register looked like it needed some major cleaning.

Pros: Quick, Inexpensive, Nice portion size

Cons: So-So atmosphere, Noisy

The Primo Patio is the most wonderfully low-key place in SF. You hardly notice it when you pass by, but when you walk past the kitchen you emerge into a nice Biergarten-style atmosphere in the back. The main waitress here is so WONDERFUL AND FRIENDLY -- on slow nights she'll just shoot the breeze with you, and you really want to come back. She even remembered us the second time we came in -- three weeks later. And the tasty, inexpensive food is usually brought out in, like, 3 minutes (though longer during baseball season). The pitchers of Sangria rival Cha Cha Cha, and it's much less crowded and expensive. For what you pay, there's no better Caribbean place in the city. I've been back six times. NOTE: It does get a little cold on the patio, but the waitress can turn on the heat lamps for you.

rotating specials (espacially the fish) are excellent. top 3 must try's are : 1. jerk chicken sandwich with french fries (those dipping sauce and fries are soo good). 2. caribbean style lamb in plate or as a sandwich/pita. 3. savory black bean pancakes

Solid, satisfying Caribbean food served in an enclosed patio creates charm in SoMa.  See the full editorial review.
