Best Snapper and Margaritas Ever!

by rakeshtondon at Citysearch

This ain't no burrito joint - ain't no taqueria. It's where you want to go for grand mexican food. We went there expecting a lot, and were pleasantly surprised to get more than we expected. The guac was fresh, spicy and just perfect. The Chilli Rellenos were the best I've ever had, and the red snapper was the freshest I've ever had in San Francisco. Even the variety of drinks impressed my fiance, and added to the excellent meal we were already enjoying. Two thumbs up big!!! I highly recommend it. Please make reservations to avoid a wait. The service is so-so, but overall makes for a great evening.

  • Pros: Excellent food - fresh and tasty
  • Cons: Service is kamsi-kamsa

delicious food!

by acura1993integra at Citysearch

although this restaurant is a little out of the way (it's on second street, about four blocks south of market, which can be a little bit sketchy late at night), it was worth the hike. the chili relleno was excellent. i've never had anything like it before... and that was the vegetarian version of it (it typically comes with seafood). my friend had a vegetarian portobello and crispy eggplant dish, which was, as he says, "friggin awesome." i had the lobster and shrimp dish. the lobster was a little bit chewy, but the shrimp was very good, and overall the dish was unique and flavorful. the serving sizes were on the smaller side, but, at the end of the meal (with one entree and a shared appetizer), we were too full to even consider dessert. i would definitely like to try some of the other entrees offered at maya. the only drawback was that the service was a little less than friendly, but he was not rude by any means.

  • Pros: appetizers, entrees
  • Cons: service, location

gooooood

by food4thought27 at Citysearch

This is an upscale restaurant with gourmet food prepared by talented and skilled chefs, don't get it wrong because it is listed with all the burrito joints. Have been here 3 times, the food is superd, you will treasure every bite of it. The furniture is kind of conservative, but it probably appeals to people around 50-60. Would probably be good for business dinners as the tables have some space between them and the multiple of fabric muffles the overall noise. Bring lots of money or a credit card!

Impressed

by funloverinsf at Citysearch

I wasn't sure what to expect for upscale Mexican and after reading other reviews, but I took a gamble and tried it for a business lunch. Everyone loved it! The food and service were excellent; the ceviche, pork quesadillas and both prawn entrees were all wonderful...even the sorbet desert was delicious. I can't wait to try Maya for dinner.

  • Pros: delicious flavor, impeccable service
  • Cons: so good i couldn't st, op eating...so full, when I left

Best Mexican!

by luckyrainbow at Citysearch

The fish dishes were awesome! The halibut and red snapper dishes were complemented with delicious sides and the coconut cheesecake for dessert was incredible! The service was average and rather slow for early dinner but the ambience and great food made up for it. Definitely no burrito place here!

  • Pros: Parking across street, Good prix fixe menu

Viva Maya!

by TigerSF at Citysearch

I never thought of Mexican food as fancy, or anything truly special. I was happily surprised to find the food unique, and mouth-watering not to mention the exceptional service and menu pricing. I had a shrimp and langostino dish. The shrimp were large and perfectly cooked, although I only had one small langostino. They were served in a bowl atop a paste type of sauce rich with flavors and spices. I would highly recommend Maya to anyone looking for that "hidden treasure" in Mexican cuisine! ~TigerSF

  • Pros: Terrific Menu, Well priced, Awesome Food!

Amazing!

Ok, one of the most amazing meals I have ever had! I just decided to be adventurous and choose a dish, and it was absolutely amazing. I had the Camarones Azteca and I highly recommend it. I also had some ceviche and it was incredible. I highly recommend it.

Prob the best in SF

by tlpyers at Citysearch

I have frequented this place many times after seeing the Chef at the Macy food demonstration. I have never been disapointed. Favorites include the ceviche, elote (roasted corn puree), pechuga adobada, the mole, and langosta (lobster).

Fab margueritas and guac.
