My husband and I came upon South Park Cafe a few weeks ago after having a drink at another restaurant in the neighborhood. We walked in and the only tables available were right by the entry door- we took the table understanding we didn't have reservations so no big deal. Our server also pointed out that there was a space heater not too far from the table- didn't help much on that chilly night but he pointed it out. While we were going over the menu a few tables were clearing out so we asked if we could possibly move to one not so close to the door but we were told they were reserved. OK, fine we live in SF and dine at many establishments so we understood- though he was clearly annoyed we asked. We then mentioned our table was rather wobbly so asked if something could be placed under the table to make it more stable and the server rudely said "You just have to move the table around 'til you find the right spot" and they did not offer to help us move it around to find the right spot. That was the last straw and we left. There are way too many fabulous places to dine in SF and we were not going to patron this place. As I mentioned my husband and I live in SF and we dine out 2-3 times a week, $-$$$ restaurants and have never experienced a server that was clearly annoyed w/ us and so unhelpful. We consider ourselves very understanding and kind diners and because of that we've never received bad service from any server until this particular evening. Again, I can't comment on the food because it wasn't worth staying after we were left feeling unwelcome but honestly it didn't look that great anyway. We ended up going to Local Kitchen where the service was great and the food was simple and yummy!

Save your receipt and check your credit card statement!! I went there for lunch with a couple of coworkers. We had a decent meal, got our credit card receipts, tipped the waiter, signed off on the receipts and left. Later, when we checked our credit card statement, we noticed that the charges on our credit cards were higher than what we have originally signed off for. We proceeded by calling the restaurant, to which they offered no solution, but simply to call our bank to clarify. We all use different banks, and it happened to all of us, and they simply called it a bank error. BE CAREFUL! DON'T LET THEM SCAM YOU AND CHARGE YOU EXTRA WITHOUT YOU KNOWING IT!!

Checked out South Park Cafe after reading about them in San Francisco Michelin guide. They were highly recommended and I can see why. Cute little neighborhood restaurant with a true Paris feel. All of our food choices were good with the mussel soup and the duck breast as major standouts. Service was friendly and efficient. Parking was a breeze. All around a nice experience.

Pros: Easy parking, good food, friendly servers

Cons: Can be loud at times, closes at 10 pm

I used to love South Park Cafe. But I just ate my last meal there last night. The waiter was awful - total attitude, rushing our table of 3 to place our orders even though there was only 1 other table in the restaurant. He rolled his eyes when I placed a used toothpick from my martini on the table...wtf? While enjoying our pre-dinner cocktails, he kept coming by to take our wine order. We weren't sure what bottle we wanted so we told him we needed a few minutes. He returned 60 seconds later to ask what wine we wanted...again, wtf? He acted very rude and totally put-off by our wish to have a nice, relaxing meal. I'd like to reiterate that at NO TIME during our meal was the restaurant full. No one was waiting for a table and the waiters (2) both had time to hang out at the bar several times during our meal. After our main course, our waiter again rushed us to place a dessert order. Again, we asked for a few minutes to look at the menu. He then ignored us for 15 minutes, walking by the table with his nose in the air AFTER we asked him if we could place our dessert order!! We also saw him snickering with the OWNER and other waitstaff on several occasions. Up until that point, we thought it was just our waiter with the bad manners, but once we realized the whole operation was run by a bunch of snobs, we decided to forgo a conversation with the manager/owner and put our experience on Citysearch instead. South Park Cafe can have their attitudes, but they can't have my business any more. There are too many great places to eat in San Francisco that don't have attitude. Why give rude people your business when you have so many (better) options?

Pros: ok food, nice location

Cons: rude waiter, owner, no parking, overpriced

Wonderful little neighborhood restaurant. Best steak and frites in town. Nice, fairly priced wine list mostly consisting of French and California selections. Some "odd" menu items not likely to find anywhere else. The prix fixe is available all nights and covers all items on the menu and is only $32!!! My new favorite spot.

Pros: ample parking

Cons: not open late

Excellant food and wine at great prices. Three course "prix fixe" dinner at $32 is a steal. The steak and fries are to die for. Easy parking on non baseball nights. Great little SF secret

Pros: food, service

Cons: sometimes noisy

Nice neighborhood spot. Good food and friendy service. Great value for the dollar. Small but well thought out wine list that is very fairly priced. Also try the boudin when it's available.

Pros: friendly, good value, good parking

Cons: little noisy

This place sucks. It's pricey, the food is very mediocre. No way is it worth what it is charging for. The people there have a lot of attitudes and the owner is a very rude and nasty man. Unlike warm places where the owner is nice and greeting. If you like stuck up service, food that anyone can make at home, and a real attitude case, then I would recommend going there.

Many reviews are calling this a slice of Paris. Yes they have French food, and the atmosphere is quaint and romantic. I thought what we got for the money was not enough. Service was not great, not very attentive for a party of six all with drinks. Not very approachable about answering questions on the menu. One of the reviews says to hold the mayo on the fries. My friend was told he couldn't get mayo when he asked. My steak and fries were good, however, call me cheap but I like more bang for the buck when I spend $19 for a meal than 5 oz of meat and fries, maybe some parsley to garnish? ! You can get better service and food in SF. Oh that's right, It's a French place, that might explain the cost & attitude.

Pros: Atmosphere, Food

Cons: Service, Value

A little slice of France in South Park, this longtime favorite offers lovely renditions of classic bistro fare.  See the full editorial review.
