What a Great Find!!

by tomfrancis

What can I say???? New to the neighborhood and was hungry for some comfort food. I asked a couple of friends to join me for dinner and they said the place is usually a Zoo during the games. There were about 15 tables in the restaurant and the general manager was at the door. We were taken to this nice and darkly lit dining room and he gave us table choices.Whatever happened to sit here or leave?-LOL. We sat by the window with the view of the ball park and King street. Onion strings were outstanding. I think we actually fought over the last pieces. The meatloaf was very good(I said I was looking for comfort food). and the chocolate cookies with the mint ice cream?? were the right stuff. Comfort food??? I know where to go now!!!

Marginal...all the way around

by llyonize

Went here for brunch...seemed like it could be good...but it wasnt. All three of us were very unimpressed with our meals, french toast, salmon flat bread and eggs and eggs florentine. And the waitress seemed to take her sweet time with taking orders and bringing items....maybe I should have ordered something else.

  • Pros: outside patio
  • Cons: expensive, not very good

Snooty, stuck-up staff but good food

by sbourne

I made an early reservation at 5:30 PM Friday night. I asked for a quiet table so that my companion and I could enjoy some good conversation. The greeter ignored my request (even though the place was reasonably slow) and put us two tables away from a large group.

The wait staff was rude and snooty. Our waiter appeared at our table, did not introduce himself and did not even speak. He looked down at us silently. I decided to speak up and ask for some iced tea to which he responded in a complaining voice, "You're not having wine?" I replied no and he turned on his heels and left.

The iced tea was delivered quickly and I decided to order, not waiting for him to ask since it appeared he expected me to go first.

I ordered the Filet Minion and my date ordered the roast beef. I also ordered the Split Pea Soup. The soup was superb, but served tepid, rather than hot. Both main courses arrived quickly and were good, hot and delicious. The Yankee Roast was a fine cut of meat, tender and flavor-full. The dish came with mashed potato and gravy. Unfortunately, the chef took the easy way out on the gravy and used a tomato base that was a bit disappointing. The Filet Minon was ordered medium and served a little closer to medium-rare but man it was a great cut of meat and was superb. The Filet Minion was served with Spinach and Potatoes au gratin. Both were excellent. We opted for sweet treats at home and asked for the bill.

The ambiance was good, and location great. The food was overall very good. I have to admit that in 30 years, I haven't encountered anything quite as unusual as the MoMos' wait staff. It's as if they simply didn't care one bit that we were there. With a price tag of $67 for dinner with no wine or dessert, you'd at least expect a smile? Perhaps the fact that we're non-drinkers put the staff off.

Either way, we'll probably visit again to sample something else on the deep menu. But we might go for lunch next time, and hope to get a different waiter.

  • Pros: Deep menu with unusual choices, good food and location
  • Cons: Expensive, rude, snooty staff

Located next to AT&T Park, this restaurant serves New American cuisine to fans of America's oldest pastime.

by Contributor

In Short
The open dining area and tightly packed tables emphasize the bustle of this restaurant that can be very busy when there's a game across the street at AT&T Park. The menu is New American, featuring entrees like wood-grilled pork chop served with garlic mashed potatoes, and seared ahi with spicy bok choy slaw and wasabi. Featured desserts include cheesecake with strawberries and white chocolate.

Excellent food, avoid sitting near the bar during Giants games!

by fighton11

I had a great date night at Momo's. The waitstaff was extremely attentive and the food was amazing. I had A1 Crusted Meatloaf that was (gasp) better than my mother's. My date's dish came with incredible garlic mashed potatoes and I have to say I think I ate more of them than he did. Overall a great experience and a great atmosphere, but be warned that the bar area seems to get very crowded and loud right before Giants games. If you're looking for a nice place to take a date in the off-season, or want to class up your tailgate and sit down to a great meal before a game, Momo's is definitely the place.

  • Pros: Great food, attentive waitstaff
  • Cons: Loud pre-game crowd

Fabulous

by sierra01

Had a wonderful time here for dinner with friends. The atmosphere is elegant, but fairly casual. Plenty of room for large parties in big booths that seem to seat 7 or two private to semi-private rooms. There are also a row of 2 seater banquettes perfect for a little face to face with your sweetie. The hostess was welcoming and our server helped make the experience delightful with excellent recommendations and a thorough knowledge of wines and specials, very friendly and attentive, but not intrusive.

Great selection of salads and sandwiches at lunch (which I?ve had before), but their entrees really stand out. The potroast seemed like it had been slow cooked for hours and had a great homemade flavor. The Gumbo, while not quite authentic, was full of fresh tasting seafood and sausage. We also tried the 16oz Ribeye with an AMAZING twice baked potato umm umm umm and the Sea Scallops with asparagus risotto that was cooked to perfection. Dessert consisted of an OH MY GOD pumpkin pie, sinful chocolate torte and warm cookies. All the comforts of home with extra pizzazz and quality served in a way that, overall, makes you feel decadent and satisfied.

The separate bar area has quite a different tempo and is conducive to sports enthusiasts and cocktailers alike. I can see why this place is so popular during baseball season. Despite it?s proximity to the park, it really is a great hang out spot. Going back tomorrow for happy hour! (Mon-Fri 4pm-7pm)

Fun

by thalia827

Nice environment! Good drinks and good value. Went after a Giants game, the bar was very busy but just added another element to the scene. Nice outdoor area, with a limited bar and everything else that you could want is served inside. Fun place to go after a game, right across the street from SBC Park.

  • Pros: Ambience
  • Cons: A little crowded

Happy hour food was okay and the prices weren't that great. Nice to drink outside in front of the park.

Nice, fun atmosphere!

by culinarydelight

My experience at Momo's was fun. However, this place can get very busy on a Friday night, especially after a ball game and so the service can be sloooooow. Be sure to make reservations. The food was good; there's a good variety and the portions are very fair, but still a little too pricey for good/average food. Parking is pretty tough, but you can usually park a bit farther and walk.

  • Pros: fun atmosphere, portion size
  • Cons: parking, slow service
