Good lunch spot
by mark
I've always thought of KOB's as an Irish Pub to visit after work. Since my company moved, I've discovered that they have an excellent lunch menu. The Kate's burger and the Black and Bleu are both very good. You cannot go wrong with the Fish n Chips. My only average lunch was the Crab Cake sandwich. BTW, the service is always solid.
- Pros: Hamburgers and service

STILL IN BUSSINESS ?

Been a concierge for a hotel for 8 years I ve been learning a lot of the food and beverage industry. Customer and referal I was for the Kate O'brien till last week of september. After a long day of work, used to be my habit to stop by at Kate's for a beer and burger. I was there with a friend and An inrtoxicated patron start to harrasing me. I mention to the waiter. Second time to the bartender. Third time the waiter again. Finally the guy start to "upchuck" close to me, my friends and my table. At that point, I couldn't eat my burger any longer. Neither I like to get physical with this drunk guy cause its not my job to keep the place clean and chill. End of the story. I fill it up the half burger left with ketch up, the guy still there and neither waiter or bartender attend my prays. I had to fill this intoxicated guy's face with a half medium burger and catch up. I told the bartender that I didn't feel like I had to pay for my burger, he repply back that I m trying to get a burger in the house. I pay the full price, I tip them $ 4 dollars BUT I LL NEVER COMEBACK TO KATE OBRIENS, NEITHER SEND THE MARRIOTT GUESTS THERE. Options now are Zebulon, that I already tried and like and 21st ammendement. Mr Concierge
- Pros: selection
- Cons: warm berr, cold treatment, what else do you want
love the selections, hate the space
by nomadslime
Lots of taps, food is much improved now that's under new management, and the staff is friendly enough. But the space itself is tough. The booths are tight, and not conducive to large groups, and even when it's not full, I'm constantly squeezing past people. It gets loud, again even when it's not hopping. Good ambience, but has that stale air
Disappointing!

This bar had been the favorite of some of my coworkers and we held a few get-togethers there. I found the waitresses to be ill-informed and, at times, rude. The music was far too loud and wasn't lowered when requested - even though we were the only patrons in the bar at the time. I'm not exactly sure why they have TVs on at all when the music was at an ear crushing level. On my first visit, the bartender reeled off a list of "specials" and when it was my turn to order I ordered Guiness, she tried to talk me out of it saying they don't make Guinness in Ireland, etc. When I responded with "And Clysdales didn't deliver those kegs of Bud, I still want a Guiness". Now I know it takes time to pour a proper Guniness but when my pint took 10 minutes longer than everyone elses, I knew she wasn't getting a tip and I was fairly certain I wouldn't be coming back. Unfortunately, a few weeks later I had to go back for a work meeting, then a few weeks later for a going away party. When the place is crowded, the loud music is less of a bother. And, the appetizers are great. I'd suggest sitting outside and only going when it's crowded - make sure you order a Guiness.
- Cons: service, music, wait staff
The cuttest bar in SOMA!
by marilynnelizabeth
I love this little Irish Bar; its like no other bar out there! Kates shines like a little green light in the middle of Tall buildings and empty streets. Tons of neat things to look at like old school Cranberries posters and Naked Barbies hanging out of playhouses next to big antique bells. The girls that work there (and Seamie) are fabulous! Rain or shine, the bar always has a great feeling about it! Always good music, the DJ's on Wednesday are especially my favorite!! This bar is great!
- Pros: Good drinks, fun staff, heated patio
- Cons: only open till 2, :(
These Bartender's Suck
by barrysangel
I love Irish pubs=never have had a problem with one until I entered this little spot. The bartenders cannot be bothered. This one shall remain nameless, but he was either the dumbest person I've encountered or he was on hardcore medication.
ME: "Can I have two Coronas, please?"
BARTENDER (Like I'm a dumba$$): "We dont have any more Coronas, how about Pacifico?"
ME: "OK"
The bartender proceeds to give me two Coronas (?????????????????????)
Then proceeds to give away my credit card.
This place sucks.
- Pros: There's alcohol there
- Cons: Bad bartenders, Bad Clientel
A downtown pub that feels more like a friendly Irish bistro.

The Scene
Pretension-free patrons consume good beer and grub while listening to eclectic beats. They sit at one of the numerous cafe tables, or sidle up to the long copper bar lined with 16 beer taps announcing some of Europe's (and California's) finest. The brick walls, decorative wrought-iron balcony and Irish memorabilia offer a warm contrast to the city's sleek, minimalist bars.
The Draw
A steady lunchtime and after-work crowd comes for tasty sandwiches, burgers and perfect chips (fries) to go with ice-cold pints. The downtown location makes it an easy destination for the working class to meet up with friends when the whistle blows, especially Thursdays and Fridays. Rotating DJs play downtempo, hip-hop or house music (Wed-Sat).

great service and really enjoyed the djs. A great place for an after work drink. The place looks cool and feels comfortable
I've been here a bunch

I work close to Kate's, so I have been going weekly. The service is AWFUL, the drinks are overpriced and the patrons are anything but friendly. I plan on finding another neighbor hood bar!
- Pros: location
- Cons: price, service, music
