What a romantic night, and what a wonderful dining experience!

My husband and I went to this San Francisco landmark restaurant the other evening to celebrate our 4th wedding anniversary and all I can say is.....what a romantic evening! The restaurant is cozy(the lighting is great!) , it wasn't too crowded on the night we were there (perhaps a sign of this awful economy?!) The waiter was gracious and very efficient, the food exceptional and the dessert (yes you have to save room for dessert!) was scrumptious! and what followed later on that evening, well, just use your imagination! ;) Seriously if you are looking for fine dining, a romantic dinner or perhaps to entertain business clients than definitely pay this San Francisco landmark restaurant a visit, you will be very glad you did!
- Pros: Great food, attentive wait staff, wonderful wine list, romantic atmosphere, great location!
- Cons: Nothing!
A bit disappointing

We love SF and visit (from Oregon) often. We ate at Boulevard once before a few years ago and it was good but not especially memorable. This trip we decided to try it again since someone in our party who had never been had heard that Boulevard was very well-regarded . We had to make reservations weeks in advance. It seemed like the "hot" place to go. However, we found that the food was quite average and in fact many places here in Portland have much better food. But Boulevard was A LOT more expensive! Far, far better is Fringale, a small French bistro South of Market. We go there often and the food is fantastic, consistent and half the price of Boulevard. Save your money and go to Fringale twice!

food was good. the place was spacious, but tables are too near with each other that it tends to look crowded when they have a lot of guests.tends to be noisy too. i liked the salmon i ordered but my husband didn't like his lamb. service was average. our experience was good but not great with this resto.
DON'T WAST YOUR $$$

This is one of the most overrated restaurants! Please please please do not waste your $ (and you'll waste quite a bit at this overpriced, tasteless restaurant!). I'm not quite sure why others have rated it so high, but let me just say that from start to finish, this meal was horrible. The mojitos were totally watered down--NO alcohol! Once we sat down, the menu looked really good so we decided to order an appetizer.... the pheasant ravioli. Well, this app was $18.50 and we received 3 very small raviolis... pretty pathetic. And it's not like the flavor made up for the small portion in the least! It was horrible! I then ordered the sea bass and my husband ordered the filet mignon. When we received our entrees, we were so unbelievably disappointed. My sea bass was completely flavorless and atop some watered down, bland risotto. Oh, and the fish weighed in at about 4 whole ounces. My husband's $42 filet tasted like top sirloin--chewy and over cooked. Don?t get me wrong, I don't mind small portions if the flavor makes up for it. Needless to say we did not look at the dessert menu. In fact, we got our check, paid the outrageous bill, and went straight to Little Italy in North Beach for some fabulous gnocchi and gelato!!! With so many amazing restaurants in San Francisco, please don't waste your time, money, and taste buds at this horrifically overpriced, bland restaurant!
- Pros: NONE
- Cons: terrible food (taste and portion size), drinks, price, noisy due to open kitchen

The 6 of us had a very nice meal 2 weeks ago. I don't think the waiting staff is necessarily consistent with the food and wine but still good though. We had 3 bottles of wine but the waiter could not describe any of them sufficiently for the $100 - 120 price per bottle. We drank them anyway and enjoyed 2 of the 3 very much. Would still recommend restaurant and return again.
- Pros: food, atmosphere

Boulevard Restaurant is a wonderful place to eat. The food is amazing and the staff is efficient, friendly, and attentive. The whole dining experience is heavenly.
We have enjoyed every trip to the bay area with a date night at Boulevard.

The instant you walk into this restaurant the beauty of the interior strikes you from all corners, thanks to the design of Pat Kuleto. The warm lighting, tiled walkway, and art-nouveau feel set the stage for a charming, refined evening, although the hustle and noise keep it from being too stuffy. I went on a Friday night for dinner, and although the dining room was full, I was amazed with the efficiency of the service. The waiter was one of the best I have ever had, always very attentive and knowledgeable without being bothersome.
Because I had never tried abalone before, I ordered the red abalone, with fried abalone mushroom in a bernaise sauce and green beans with hollandaise as my appetizer. It was incredible: light, refreshing, and unique. Although the portion was small, it was packed with flavor and I highly recommend this dish.
My entree was split at the table, so I was able to taste the lamb cheek/loin with potatoes, porcini mushrooms, olives, and cipollini onion, as well as the filet mignon accompanied by a spinach gratin with a gorgonzola crust and artichoke heart. All the meat was cooked to perfection, and the sides complimented the them very nicely. I preferred the lamb, purely because I thought the sauce enhanced the flavors better than that of the filet mignon.
The reason I gave this restaurant 4 stars instead of 5 was because of the desserts. Although in the past I have had the best creme brulee of my life (and I've lived in Paris), the desserts were slightly disappointing. The chocolate platter lacked invention and the toffee/butterscotch plate was very standard as well. Although the flavors weren't bad, this was not the highlight of the meal.
Between the food, atmosphere, and dinner service, this charming restaurant proves to be consistently one of the best in the Bay Area.

I love it here and find the food, service and atmosphere reliable and top-notch. Great for dates, out of towners, and girls night.

The salmon with chervil and lobster - perfect. Ms. Sullivan's desserts are the best in San Francisco - the ginger bread dessert was perfect. The ahi tuna appetizer - one of the best in the city. The service was elegant and friendly. Thanks to Scott, the sommelier or recommending the perfect shiraz. I cannot find anything wrong with the service, execution, or food at all. I'm one of the pickiest amateur food critics around and I would pick Boulevard every time over any restaurant in San Francisco. Great job, I'll be back again and again. Thank you to Boulevard for a perfect evening. Well done. Very well done 5 stars.
- Pros: everything, food, wine list, service
- Cons: the restaurant can get backed up sometimes in the front

My wife and I dined at Boulevard for our wedding anniversary. The reservations were made well in advance and we had requested a table in the back with views of the bridge- the request came through. Our appetizers of ahi tuna and the ginger crab salad were delicious starters. For our entree- the salmon and prime rib pork medallions were outstanding. We passed on dessert as nothing jumped out at us which was fine. Excellent food, service and atmosphere. A special event dining experience for us.
