Best Cut and Color Ever!
by stephcoquette
Went to Oxenrose and got my cut and color from Brian. LOVE the color! The best color blonde I have ever had. Getting compliments all over the place. Thanks Brian!
- Pros: Easy Parking. They have the stylist Brian Belier. Best Scissors in the West!
- Cons: Exposed lighting kinda hurts the eyes and the music sometimes get a bit loud.
if i could give 10 stars i would
by dungeonmistress
After getting literally butchered the day before at another local salon *cough*notoriousforhair*cough* i went to see Brian at Oxenrose. The man can cut hair. The atmosphere, services...all par exellence. I highly recommend this salon and will be returning here to get my hair cut from now on. If Brian leaves rest assured I will follow him to the ends of the earth if necessary. He is a scissors wizard. I am very happy - and I am a stylistphobe - so this is really saying something. My only regret is not going to see Brian first - I could have saved myself some trouble and a lot of money.
Damiano at Oxenrose
by jeanniechristensen
This dude saved me from having to drive to LA or go back to NYC for my hair stuffs. I had been to every kind of sf salon: expensive, hip, underground, vegan punkish....None of the people who did my hair could really grasp what I wanted. They were too much in their particular style box to see that there is a kind of cool chic you achieve when you're comfortable with your look that is just kind of undone. Damiano knows this kind of cool. He can tailor your hair to your essence without making it look like you tried too hard and he's totally humble about it. Keep him in SF! He's threatening to move. ARgh.
Best Hair Salon
by lindapham
I highly recommend Oxenrose for its team of exceptional hairstylists and fun ambiance. The service is topnotch and the decor is amazingly creative and unique. I especially have to praise Lynn, who has been CONSISTENTLY giving me the best haircuts.
- Pros: the stylists and staff
- Cons: Parking
Beware late policy - NOT accommodating either!
by SFwestportalwoman
I generally had a good experience with this hair salon. BUT: Beware their late policy of 15 minutes (which they don't bother to advertise either). One night I called to say I was there but was looking for parking (there was an opera going on apparently), and I'd be there as soon as I found a spot. I walked in literally exactly 15 minutes after my appointment time, and even though I had called them, they refused to see me. I even said I'd skip having it blow-dried and just get a cut. They lost my business that night, as I had never heard of this policy before, and they couldn't be accommodating even when I had called them to tell them I was there. Not my idea of good customer service.
Bad Attitude
by kr333
I'm done with having them screw up my hair. It has happened twice now. All you are paying for is attitude from badly dressed wannabe punk rockers. My stylist decided that she didn't feel like standing anymore during my color and cut, so she asked one of the others to wash the color out and then left me with extremely excessive amounts of die all down my neck. When she asked the othr person to help, that person basically grumbled and said no to the stylist then grumpily agreed to help. Not a pleasant place to be, and all you are paying for is bad attitude, bad colors and cuts, and overall bad service..
- Cons: Terrible service. Just try to get the front desk to do anything.
Great place
by msshoelady
I've always had problems with finding a hair stylist and sticking with one person. I've gone to places where they have charged me 20 bucks and places where I have paid $100 for a hair cut. This place charges me $55 (maximum about $60) and I love her (Sonja). She takes great care of me and is extremely good. I got bangs recently and she eased me into it. Also they provide a free bangs trim between haircuts! Amazing perk! For coloring, I would say that this place charges the typical rate across town, around $120. But they do know what they are doing. Oooh, also, they carry Shu Uemura hair products which is only available in very limited selection of salons (there's only about 20 in the Bay Area).
Falling hair disaster AND I GOT CHARGED TWICE SECRETLY
by josephko
Don't go to this salon. As you can see from the feedback above, I feel the same way. I presented a picture of specific hair style, and I got a total different look out of it. it's a mess. Parking is horrible. And worst of all, they didn't wash my hair after hair cut and I have small pieces of hairs falling everywhere whole day. With price about $100, this is not acceptable. TRUST ME! SPEND YOUR MONEY SOMEWHERE ELSE.
PS. AFTER TALKING TO THEM ABOUT THE BAD HAIRCUT, OXENROSE AGREE TO REFUND MY MONEY OVER THE PHONE. BUT INSTEAD OF REFUND, THEY CHARGE ME AGAIN. IF I DIDN'T DOUBLE CHECK MY BANK ACCOUNT, I WOULD NOT KNOW. SO I GOT CHARGED TWICE FOR A BAD HAIRCUT.
Too much blowdrying
by blueyeskon
First my husband booked an appointment for me and my daughter. They confirmed the appointment a day before but when my husband took my daughter there they told him that they hairstylist is sick and that they left a message, which my husband never received. He ended up leaving work early just to bring my daughter, who is 9 to do a haircut. They couldn?t find anyone to cut her hair (talk about quality customer service) so they had to leave but I stayed for my style. How long does it take to give a 9 year old a haircut. The lady who did my hair was extremely nice but seemed to be less knowledgeable about doing hairstyles. All I wanted to do is to layer my hair since it?s been over a year since I had layers. She did some nice layers in front but I had to ask her to make 3 more layers in the back (she should have known that). She took about 20 minutes to blowdrying every inch of my hair, pulling my neck all the time (which was funny to me, but I didn?t tell her to stop). This type of hair cut I could have gotten anywhere, there is nothing fancy about the salon even if they give you free tea. The receptionist or the girl who was walking around all the time has too much pride and thinks she is so hot, every time she walked by I wanted to laugh because it seemed that her confidence level was too high, even my husband noticed that. She wasn?t much friendly and had a bit of attitude but I didn?t want to waste my time on her. All I know is that I?m not coming back there?Good luck.

Hair disaster
by september2357
Yesterday I went in for blond highlights, came out looking like Big Bird. Yellow, no streaking, just yellow all over. I'm not someone who cares that much about my hair. I just wanted to look especially good for an interview. But I signed up on City Search just to write this review. I need to get emergency corrective color. Oh... my... god. And the styling - I was embarassed just to walk up to the front counter. All curly on the left and almost straight on the right. Not intentional; the stylist just gave up. I went out looking so much worse than when I went in. What happened to this place? Best of 2006? Does that mean anything??
Update - I called first thing this morning to ask them to correct the superbad coloring I got yesterday. Get this - the only way they will do it is if I go back to the stylist who created the problem in the first place. They won't offer to have anyone else make time for me. I gave them a chance to fix the mistake, and they failed. I feel hung out to try.
- Pros: good coffee
- Cons: bad color, bad styling
