I generally had a good experience with this hair salon. BUT: Beware their late policy of 15 minutes (which they don't bother to advertise either). One night I called to say I was there but was looking for parking (there was an opera going on apparently), and I'd be there as soon as I found a spot. I walked in literally exactly 15 minutes after my appointment time, and even though I had called them, they refused to see me. I even said I'd skip having it blow-dried and just get a cut. They lost my business that night, as I had never heard of this policy before, and they couldn't be accommodating even when I had called them to tell them I was there. Not my idea of good customer service.

I'm done with having them screw up my hair. It has happened twice now. All you are paying for is attitude from badly dressed wannabe punk rockers. My stylist decided that she didn't feel like standing anymore during my color and cut, so she asked one of the others to wash the color out and then left me with extremely excessive amounts of die all down my neck. When she asked the othr person to help, that person basically grumbled and said no to the stylist then grumpily agreed to help. Not a pleasant place to be, and all you are paying for is bad attitude, bad colors and cuts, and overall bad service..
Cons: Terrible service. Just try to get the front desk to do anything.

I've always had problems with finding a hair stylist and sticking with one person. I've gone to places where they have charged me 20 bucks and places where I have paid $100 for a hair cut. This place charges me $55 (maximum about $60) and I love her (Sonja). She takes great care of me and is extremely good. I got bangs recently and she eased me into it. Also they provide a free bangs trim between haircuts! Amazing perk! For coloring, I would say that this place charges the typical rate across town, around $120. But they do know what they are doing. Oooh, also, they carry Shu Uemura hair products which is only available in very limited selection of salons (there's only about 20 in the Bay Area).

Don't go to this salon. As you can see from the feedback above, I feel the same way. I presented a picture of specific hair style, and I got a total different look out of it. it's a mess. Parking is horrible. And worst of all, they didn't wash my hair after hair cut and I have small pieces of hairs falling everywhere whole day. With price about $100, this is not acceptable. TRUST ME! SPEND YOUR MONEY SOMEWHERE ELSE. PS. AFTER TALKING TO THEM ABOUT THE BAD HAIRCUT, OXENROSE AGREE TO REFUND MY MONEY OVER THE PHONE. BUT INSTEAD OF REFUND, THEY CHARGE ME AGAIN. IF I DIDN'T DOUBLE CHECK MY BANK ACCOUNT, I WOULD NOT KNOW. SO I GOT CHARGED TWICE FOR A BAD HAIRCUT.

First my husband booked an appointment for me and my daughter. They confirmed the appointment a day before but when my husband took my daughter there they told him that they hairstylist is sick and that they left a message, which my husband never received. He ended up leaving work early just to bring my daughter, who is 9 to do a haircut. They couldn’t find anyone to cut her hair (talk about quality customer service) so they had to leave but I stayed for my style. How long does it take to give a 9 year old a haircut. The lady who did my hair was extremely nice but seemed to be less knowledgeable about doing hairstyles. All I wanted to do is to layer my hair since it’s been over a year since I had layers. She did some nice layers in front but I had to ask her to make 3 more layers in the back (she should have known that). She took about 20 minutes to blowdrying every inch of my hair, pulling my neck all the time (which was funny to me, but I didn’t tell her to stop). This type of hair cut I could have gotten anywhere, there is nothing fancy about the salon even if they give you free tea. The receptionist or the girl who was walking around all the time has too much pride and thinks she is so hot, every time she walked by I wanted to laugh because it seemed that her confidence level was too high, even my husband noticed that. She wasn’t much friendly and had a bit of attitude but I didn’t want to waste my time on her. All I know is that I’m not coming back there…Good luck.
Cons: Customer Service

Yesterday I went in for blond highlights, came out looking like Big Bird. Yellow, no streaking, just yellow all over. I'm not someone who cares that much about my hair. I just wanted to look especially good for an interview. But I signed up on City Search just to write this review. I need to get emergency corrective color. Oh... my... god. And the styling - I was embarassed just to walk up to the front counter. All curly on the left and almost straight on the right. Not intentional; the stylist just gave up. I went out looking so much worse than when I went in. What happened to this place? Best of 2006? Does that mean anything?? Update - I called first thing this morning to ask them to correct the superbad coloring I got yesterday. Get this - the only way they will do it is if I go back to the stylist who created the problem in the first place. They won't offer to have anyone else make time for me. I gave them a chance to fix the mistake, and they failed. I feel hung out to try.
Pros: good coffee
Cons: bad color, bad styling

I've been going to Oxenrose for about 3 years. Pearlyn was my first stylist there who got me hooked. Sometimes our schedules don't match so I've had to go to somebody else. Sandy was pretty good and the other two were horrible! Now I have to schedule in advance to make sure I'm with Pearlyn. She does great highlights and excellent cuts that last. The type of cut that keeps getting better as it grows and highlights that people keep asking if you just got your hair done 2 months afterwards. She makes the 2-3 hour appt fly bye with lots of laughs and fun conversation. Customer service at the front can vary. Pearlyn listens to what you want and really takes her time. I just wish she worked more days!
Pros: Pearlyn
Cons: Schedule in advance

I was highly impressed, was actually able to book a same day app for both two colors, cut and style ( I've never had to do same day but this was an "emergency". and I was taken care of promptly) I rarely change hairdressers, once I find someone good and I have been quite lucky keeping hairdressers for decades ! My hairdresser moved causing me to find someone new. I had the fortunate experience of Christie's expert talent and skils where she colored, highlighted, cut and styled the most perfect look for me! A side note, in adjusting to one another with the first app. my highlights were great but I was looking for more of a contrast, she actually solved that problem and added more darkness to a couple of the highlights, so she took the extra time to make it perfect and to make me satisfied. I will definitely go back as I have found my new hairdresser in Christie! Thank you, Christie, thank you, Oxenrose! Pauline

I don't want to be harsh, but when you have thin, blonde, and lifeless hair, perhaps the best thing is not to cut so many layers that would be more appropriate for long curly hair. I was really disappointed in my cut because it wasn't appropriate for my type of hair, and took so terribly long to grow out. I'm now looking for a new hairstylist, but wouldn't even consider Oxen Rose because of the one cut I got there. They are nice, and it's a cool looking salon, but......enough said!

I've been in the city and have been to many of the higher end salons in city. However, I've found that it is hard to justify a $60+ (w/o tip) haircut every couple of months. I read the reviews on citysearch and found Oxenrose and thought I might check it out. It's a little less expensive ($40+) and you still get the same (oftentimes better) haircut/style than at a higher-priced salon and in a very friendly, laid-back atmosphere. I've been going to see Rain for about a year and half now and have converted my wife, sister, wife's sister and wife's friend to Oxenrose. Rain even did the hair for my and my wife's wedding. She's fantastic and a very sweet and enjoyable hairstylist - the kind of person who tmakes having a relationship with her clients just as important as the haircut itself. I would highly recommend her though have had tmy hair cut by others there and would say they are also good. I read all the reviews and even the not-so-good ones. Every hairstylist is different so I can't speak for everyone there and I have had a couple of times where I've needed to reschedule my appointment, but they have always called in advance and done what they could to fit me in at another time. While, there were a few people who had bad experiences, I would say (and you could see by the reviews) they are few and far between. Needless to say, Oxenrose and Rain get my highest recommendation, hands down. Hope that this can convert a few more folks out there.
Pros: Rain, atmosphere - music/decor, head massage, beverages, personal touch
Cons: Can be busy at times - is this bad?
