Worst experience in a Hotel
by clm29
DO NOT STAY HERE, BEWARE!!!This Hotel is terrible! I have never in my life stayed anywhere so filthy. The rooms smelled and were noisy. The decor is old and the ambience of the Hotel is scary! The linens were worn and had cigarette burns and the bathroom looked like a gas station bathroom. SAVE your money, DO NOT stay here, I am warning you. Do not believe their web site, the pictures there are deceiving. The TV was as big as a PC monitor, which appeared to have only 8-12 channels. The cushions on sofa and chairs had stains, so did the carpet. The windows would not open. The website says there are velour robes ( I did not see them).
- Pros: N/A
- Cons: The rooms are dirty, I felt betrayed and Ripped off
A savvy hotel with art deco flair.

The Scene
Formerly known as The Raphael, this smart little property sits in the heart of the Theater District. It was taken over by the Joie de Vivre group in late 1996. It is ideal for visitors who want see the downtown sights and take in a play or two.
The Details
The smallish rooms are outfitted in a sort of art deco Victoriana--mahogany furniture and red brocades with moss-green accents. Given the location, they are surprisingly quiet. Amenities run the gamut of standards, from cable TV to hair dryers. To keep the kids entertained, videos and Nintendo games can be rented. Guests can take meals at the full-service, 1940s-style Max's On The Square restaurant, which dishes up "American brasserie" cuisine.
