Great Time for A Pint!
by JoesPizza
Our first time there and we loved it. Great atmosphere, warm and friendly.
Awesome service and great selection on tap we've ever seen. If you're in the area check it out.
- Pros: Good Location
- Cons: Very popular
Horrible
by enzypher
This place is horrible... I used to go here everyday for a drink after work...
Until one day I walked in and they grabbed me by the arm and said "sir you have to talk with the manager." I complied and went up to him he told me "I was never welcome here ever again." When I asked why he told me ....because I had received a complaint about a couple who I had given my business card to, only to try and help them out. He told me that I had shown them a picture of my member which is a total lie!!!! These ladies were obviously upset and made a rumor about me... I told him not to believe their story, that they were lying and he said I don't believe you.. You need to leave and never come back!
I was very upset and it made me mad that the place I had gone to and
been very courteous and kind did not take my word over some ladies that made up this horrible rumor... DO NOT GO HERE THEY ARE UNFAIR!!!!! Go somewhere else.....
Never a bad time...
by thickprettykitty
Been here plenty of days and I've never had a bad time. Food is great, service is dependant on the kind of person you are. It's Bad if you like waitstaff equal to flies (buzz, buzz, buzz), Average if you like waistaff to be checking in with you every 15 minutes (everything STILL ok here?), Great if you like to take your time, enjoy your meal, nurse your ale and like to hollar waistaff over to request your check when you're ready. I don't know about everyone else but a pub- an IRISH pub none the less- is supposed to be rowdy and loud and you should expect to have to wave waistaff over. It's a pub. You want 5 star elegance with buzz, buzz waitstaff go on over to a fancy-schmancy sit down restaurant. Just remember you need a 4 month in advance reservation and oh ya- you can get just as good food over at Foley's and have a good time too if you just chill. And try ANY IRish pub on St. Pad's kids- what customer service?!?!? St. Pad's is CRAZY!!
great selection on tap
by abdnpd67
Foley's Irish House is a warm place to have lunch (bowl of soup, brown bread and pint of Guinness). A week ago wife was attending a conference, I was wandering about taking in the sights. I had the above lunch twice during the week and stopped in for a pint around 4pm daily. I found the bar service friendly and willing to chat if not busy. The bar was generally half filled at that time of day.
First night in town we had the "cottage (shepherds) pie." The flavor was fine but found it a bit heavy on the spuds. The soups were flavorful, hearty and of ample portion. Foley's offers an extensive selection of draught beer and ale.
I would certainly stop in again.
- Pros: great slection of draught refreshment
- Cons: did not hear an Irish accent
A great Pint in union square
by hapaguy122
I was in town on a Sunday night and just wandered into this place while walking around Union Square looking for a good drink. It was pretty busy for a Sunday night according to the bartender but it was ok as me and my buddy were able to secure a seat at the bar after about 20 mins. The flat screens were playing the Fox Soccer Channel and ESPN which provided enough entertainment. Has the best Newcastle on tap that I've had in awhile. Being in my mid-20's, I felt to be one of the younger patrons, but since I was only there to get a few beers, this place was great! I ended up going back the next day for some garlic fries. Highly recommended for someone looking for an irish pub.
- Pros: the Beer, great Taps, decent appetizers
- Cons: not a hot spot for the singles crowd
V. Good bangers and mash
by jakker
Not exactly authentic but quite good nonetheless. Murphy's a good drop on tap and the service was good - efficient yet unobtrusive bar staff.
If you're eating the bangers and mash were great.
Good Tourist Bar
by sunnysidesf
If you have people to meet in the city or family in town, take them to this tourist bar. They are large enough to accomodate big parties and the food is decent. The drinks are decent and they pour a reasonably good pint of Guinness. Occassionally there are live bands and it is always very loud inside but if you sit towards the front, you can still hear each other talking. If you can, try to venture to real Irish pubs in the city. They tend to be a bit better all around.
- Pros: Large Parties, Live Music
- Cons: Crowded, Loud
Good backup for O'Reilly's
by fwtwo
Went here one night when O'Reilly's kitchen was not working, and was pleasantly surprised. GREAT service, even though they were crowded, and the cottage pie was pretty good.
- Pros: Service, food
