Restaurant mentioned in several city guides that stood up to its billing
by gjwineco at Citysearch
We walked to this restaurant that was near our hotel that was recommended in many city guides. we had oriiginally planned to go further away but decided to try this one based on word of mouth recommendations as well as proximity. Upon being seated the menu mentioned they cater to a lot of other people in the service industry (they do this by having an early happy hour and then a later happy hour- very clever). We ordered the tandoori appetizer and the shrimp was amazing, probably my best nibble of seafood on my six day trip in Monterey and SF respectively. I would order it as an entree next time. We then ordered a couple of curries of which you can choose your heat, we asked for ours medium, perfect for me but maybe a little hot for a less adventurous palate. The food overall was delicious with that lovely fragrance of good Indian food and the staff were all very friendly and genuinely seemed to like each other.
I would suggest, however, to get a vegeable side just to balance out all of the bold flavors of the well seasoned meats.
Very good Indian cuisine

Started with Samosa and Pakoras. These were not as good as they have been on other visits, but were average. Then I had the Keema Mattar. This was excellent! One of my favorite dishes, and much better than I've had at other places. Finished it off with some Chai, which is very good here. They were out of the rice pudding, which was a bummer, because it is the best I've ever had. You have to try it! Atmosphere and service were good as always. A bit pricey, but not out of line for ingredient quality, and other restaurants in this area of town.
- Pros: quality ingredients,, friendly service,
- Cons: a bit more expensive,
