Good Diner for the family by Phillip A. at InsiderPages

When a person thinks of a typical diner, this is the closest place in millbrae that a person can come to, and it isn't commercial. The waiters/waitresses come up to your booth next to the window while you gaze outside at the passing traffic. The food's not too bad either and you'll most likely have leftovers. The price isnt the cheapest, but it isn't expensive for what you get. Its a nice place to take ur familly for dinner but is really not much better for anything else than what a diner is good for.

My friends and I seem to always find ourselves there late at night, especially after the Giants' game. They have some decent food, but their desserts are the only things that I like. I'm not too impressed with their customer service, but maybe it's due to the fact that it's late at late and I'm with a large group.

Comfort food alert! Everything on the very extensive menu at Peter's is delicious. Prices are reasonable, portions are large. Peter is usually there in person. Parking can be hairy as the restaurant is usually packed. Open 24 hours though, so no excuses!

i think i'm crusading against peter's cafe for a while. the waitresses are very rude. 3 nurses came in wanting to eat breakfast after a long day's work at a nearby hospital, and the waitress told them to sit at the back of the restaurant. we have been coming here for almost a year now, and yes we've stayed 2 hrs a couple of times, but often we come in a big group (after a long night at the hospital, we get hungry and stressed out). we told them we wont stay for long and that we'd prefer to sit in the front of the store. when a waitress sat us down, another waitress came up and said "no you are not sitting on this table" we were just stunned, stood up, left and went to millbrae pancake house. i have told as much nurses as i can not to go to this diner. the waitress were so rude, havent had that happen to any of us at all, and to think that there were only about 3 tables accupied at 0730 thursday morning. well they've lost at least 3 customers today, plus their coworkers and family :(
- Pros: fast service
- Cons: very rude waitresses
A decent alternative to a "Denny's" or an "IHOP"

My bf & I eat here 1-2 times sometimes 3 times a week for almost a year. If they've got any kind of business mind they would try to learn our names as this has made us less inclined to be loyal to them. If a similar restaurant opened nearby, we wouldn't think twice to check it out & jump ship. They flash their fake smiles and usher us to our tables on a bad day they'll hand us our menus and point to where we are to sit. The owner always has a mildly abrasive & hasty demeanor. The food is on par w/IHOP while Denny's is slightly cheaper. Typically at these other restaurants you'll get "extras" for free, not here (e.g. ranch dressing). They'll charge for every little thing so be mindful when you ask for them. The decor is cheesy and very 70's looking. Needs renovation. The servers on Mon-Tue are probably the worst they've got. They're cantankerous and don't like it when you ask for more than a couple of service needs. The others we've experienced are very friendly & very good.
The positives...
*Generous portions.
*Typically there is never a wait (as it is spacious) to and if there is, we've never had to wait longer than 10 minutes unlike Stacks in Burlingame, IHOP or Millbrae Pancake House.
*Breakfast is good.
Yesterday, I was annoyed the host didn't take our name down, they put us in an awkward position by asking who came first. Could've been easily avoided had they wrote our names down. (We had about 7 people serve us making it hard to know who our server was). When we got seated, the hostess asking us for our drinks didn't even let me finish my sentence before she ran off so I had to flag someone else to finish it. The waitress that took our order basically wrote it down then gave us our check. Don't know why she deserves a tip, she didn't do anything. In the open kitchen we noticed one of the servers eating which was not professional looking. The couple that arrived after us got their food first. This is somewhat atypical, but let's say I'm not surprised.
- Pros: Generous portions, No waits, Parking usually available
- Cons: Service is inconsistent, Ambiance isn't the best,

i first discovered peters out of pure convience, it was right down the street from my hotel and it was 2am and i was hungry. this place has great good quality food! a huge menu, large portions and they don't have any restrictions to their menu, and their waitstaff know that menu like the back of their hand, the service isprompt and efficient, and very friendly! whenever i'm in the area i crave the place and can't leave until i make a stop for a bacon cheeseburger and chili cheese fries!!!!
- Pros: Large menu, great food
- Cons: it's could use some freshening up.
Best Diner on the Peninsula by Tom H. at InsiderPages

We've happily eaten breakfast at Peter's Cafe for a dozen years, enjoying a constantly good quality and very friendly service there the whole time. Frequently voted the Bay Area's or The Peninsula's best diner by various publications, its simple diner fare, fresh and well prepared. Its clean, has good service and is very kid friendly. Its a great place for an omlette, a dutch baby, BLT or burger.
Peter and Tiffany Liu have run Peter's cafe for 15 years, and they've pretty much had the same staff working for them, with very modest turnover. I've always found that a happy staff is a reasonable indicator of a decent restaurant.
PROS: clean, good service, great diner food, right next to Millbrae BART/Caltrain
CONS:
extensive menue, fast service

I never expected diner food to be this good or for the menu to have so many items. It took me forever to read the whole menu. They even have Hawaiian Loco Mocos! Most diners just have burgers and shakes but last night this place also featured fish and chips, lamb stew, fish, and a number of dinner entrees you'd expect to find only at family restaurants (not a 24 hour diner). Food was good and hearty and the service fast and friendly. No wonder the place has customers at every hour. I can't wait to go back.
- Pros: huge menu, easy parking, fast service
- Cons: kitchy decor

my favorite thing about this restaurant is that you can order a side of trout. who would have thought? oh, that and the fact that if you ask for mashed potatoes, they have 3 different kinds of gravy. there is definitely something for everyone here - at any time of day or night. just watch out for the waitress that asks if you're pregnant if you order too many different items.
- Pros: 24 hours, extensive menu
- Cons: too bright
OMG good breakfasts!

If ever you've been out so late that the only things open are fast food places, convenience stores, and restaurants that don't have anything you would like to have, then it's time to head over to Millbrae. Peter's is a place that has great breakfasts, I've had about half of their breakfast menu and was definitely satisfied with each of them. I love the Monte Cristo. I used to live about 10 miles from this restaurant and would be there very couple weeks. Now that I live further away, it's the place I have to go whenever we're out late night in that area.
- Pros: Good parking, 24 Hours
