Is it a rock 'n' roll dive bar that serves pulled pork sandwiches and creamed spinach? Or a laid-back barbecue joint with a full rack of hard liqour and a pool table? It doesn't much matter: whatever it's doing, it's doing right. For an unpretentious--we're talking sweatpant-friendly--late-night dinner and a drink, Broken Record is quickly becoming one of the most popular dives in town, and in one of the city's least appealing locations, no less. The amalgamation of two seemingly separate spaces (one a dive bar, one a backroom eatery...with a dive bar motif), plus a decent back patio--this would be a the kind of bare-bones, bare-knuckled bar you can find in the shady neighborhoods of Everywhere, U.S.A if it weren't for fall-off-the-bone ribs and soul food creations of Boulevard alumni Ryan Ostler and Katharine Zache. Greasy-goods like game-meat corndogs, hush puppies, battered-and-fried veggies and smoked tofu sandwiches can be scarfed down at the bar, and washed down with the put-hair-on-your-chest booze selection (whiskeys, bourbons and beers). All in all, a great place for casual late night eats and drinks...wait, we're repeating ourselves like...a Broken Record.
